I’m after new stockings for our family, since we need to get one for DD anyway. I don’t want them personalised, and would prefer a stocking shape but can also be swayed by sacks.

I don’t know quite what style I want, but probably fairly traditional. I know lots of the Christmas departments aren’t open yet, but they will be soon. Budget is up to £50 each for something that’s perfect, but would be much happier spending less. Please share links/pictures whatever. Inspire me!

(and yes, in advance of the snarky comments because there’s always one, I know it’s only August. I’m on the Christmas board!)

Candy cane striped knitted ones from West Elm

Nagado · 05/08/2023 15:20

Have a look on Etsy and Not on the Highstreet. They’ve got some really nice ones on both sites.

NancyJoan · 05/08/2023 15:21

Etsy will have lovely ones, I’m sure. I’m often pleasantly surprised by the Christmas stuff in Matalan too.

The weather is making me feel a bit Christmas-planny too.

Have a look at Jane Kent - her Instagram is instagram.com/janekent_studio?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== and her website is www.janekentstudio.co.uk
She normally launches her Christmas range around mid September. It's all handmade and really beautiful x

Garden centres often have nice ones in the Christmas decoration section but probably won’t be up for a while yet. Try Etsy.

Furtivefig · 05/08/2023 16:44

All lovely but so expensive! I think I will be dragging the pillowcases out 😄

QueenOfWeeds · 05/08/2023 17:44

I’ve had a look on Etsy, but I find that the problem with the algorithms is that if I click on, for example, a knitted stocking, they then crop up more frequently than other types of stocking. I’m worried I’m missing out on a secret stash of amazing stockings 😂.

The west elm ones are good, thanks. I did spot those last year and talked myself out of them, but maybe this is the year. I’m hopeful for Cox and Cox, too. I also like the Matalan Christmas stuff and have had some cracking bits from them, but the quality has been a bit hit and miss. I hope Wilko hangs on until December!!

@dkedm15 thanks! She’s similar to some of the Etsy things I’ve spotted so it’s nice to have a specific recommendation.

I got gorgeous green velvet ones from matalan last year.

A top tip would be whichever stocking you buy for your DD, get a second identical one.
That way you can have the spare one ready filled and can easily swap it for the empty one.
Saves time on Christmas Eve and makes the putting the stocking at the end of the bed much quicker.

Yes! This is why I don’t want to get personalised ones. We will get extras but they can be used for guests or future children if ever we are lucky enough to have another.

DH and I have personalised ones but would be £££ to get DD two from the same person.

TK Maxx always has very nice Christmas stockings and sacks. Bit early for them to be putting stock out yet, but it shouldn’t be too much longer of a wait.

Only tip is to buy something as soon as you see it, though. Their seasonal stock doesn’t hang around at all.

QueenOfWeeds · 12/08/2023 21:33

Thanks!

Does anyone know when all the Christmas departments launch online? I have a feeling it’s generally September but not sure.

I got these last year

www.dibor.co.uk/luxury-jingle-bell-green-christmas-stocking.html

I got the red version too.

Absolutely love them!

YuliaJollyberry · 13/08/2023 03:21

Those are gorgeous TulipVictory. Not familiar with that site, there are some really nice ones on there.

Op some sites if you type in Christmas in the search items show before the official launch, Nextt has lots of Christmas stock already though not many stockings yet.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 13/08/2023 03:37

I've always been a fan of Lands' End needlepoint stockings. We have the ice skating ones from several years ago but the designs vary. Personalisation is optional. These are what is currently available: Traditional stockings.

We bought some lovely velvet stockings in several colours from dibor in their sale last year. Beautiful quality.

I’ve tried that but most of them have little messages saying , effectively, “not yet”.

I love the more simple Dibor ones but I actually bought some the year DH and I first lived together and he was so rude about them I returned them… I think the velvet was his main issue.
Hadn’t thought of Lands End - thanks!

I got these , sadly the red was sold out and they only had the beige/white but they're £5+p&p for two stockings . Not as festive but my DC are adults so won't loook too closely

I had to throw out the Dec 1st bags last year as they were ripped (they usually get stored in DS bed drawers and ysed for years )
I figured these were cheaper than bags and more sustainable .
( I actually bought 2 sets as I didn't realose there were 2 in the pack ) Xmas Blush

John Lewis is usually around 20th Sept.

Charrington · 18/08/2023 19:18

Your dh having an issue with velvet stockings is veering dangerously into LTB topic. You should ask MNHQ to move this thread over into relationships Xmas Wink

I got gorgeous grey fur ones from Aldi a couple of years ago. Actually I found them in a charity shop and realised they were Aldi’s after searching absolutely everywhere else for stockings.

But I dread to think how a velvetphobic might react to fur.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2023 19:39

If DH is velvet-phobic then I suggest hessian or sackcloth Xmas Grin

nc14 · 18/08/2023 19:42

Neptune do some lovely simple velvet stockings in two sizes.

Furtivefig · 18/08/2023 20:16

M&S have their Xmas decs and stockings online now.

I’ve just ordered this and really pleased with size and quality for the price.
