So sorry to hear this Crazy. Always sad to lose a beloved doggo.

Magnoliasunrise · 09/09/2023 13:05

So sorry to hear this too Crazy. I know what it's like to lose a pet. ❤

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/09/2023 13:21

Awww Sad news Crazy

Older animals are such a worry in the hot weather , they don't cope with it when they're unwell .

It's a tough decision to have them euthanised , you know in your heart of hearts it is "time" but there's always that flickering hope of "Well he;s looking brighter /eating/barking at the postman"
The guilt that you've let them go - "Is it too soon?" - but be re-assured that it's a million times better than waiting a day too long .

The empty space they leave behind Sad

I know with our guinea-pigs it took a while to get used to doing a smaller food bowl (though being obliging little rodents they said don't worry if you've made food for 5 . Us 4 will hoover it up, nothing wasted )

Then packing away all the bowls and bedding .......

CrazyBaubles · 09/09/2023 16:58

That's what I keep telling myself Fluffy - he's honestly had a pretty charmed life, especially in his older years.

Plus we were told almost 3 years ago that it would be a miracle if he was still here in 6 months so he did a bit of a FU to the vet.
I just miss him. He fitted on my lap perfectly and we had a lovely little routine everyday. Work on Monday is going to be awful

The only good thing about this weekend is that I'm busy so not at home to think about it.

CrazyBaubles · 09/09/2023 17:03

Thank you everyone - I read Fluffys post then posted - didn't realise anyone else had added to the thread too!

70 I got up at 7am today and had a minute of confusion because I always let him out first thing - I was halfway down the stairs before I really thought about it.

I haven't packed anything up yet. Just put bowls in the dishwasher (an mn sin I know) but everything else is just left for now.

I completely agree with it better to be too soon than too late, and he was at the point where any longer and his quality of life would have started to go down but you're right, he wasn't technically in a life or death situation so I feel guilty but also 100% sure it was the right thing.

Ah - bloody pets, being all lovely and getting under your skin!

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 09/09/2023 17:51

So sorry that you have lost ddog @CrazyBaubles they leave a massive hole when they go.
Dcat was an arsehole but I still miss him years later

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 09/09/2023 18:08

So sorry to hear your news Crazy. Beloved pets are part of the family.

WreckTangled · 09/09/2023 18:21

Ah crazy I’m so sorry. My sister made me a photo book when wreckcat died and we did the same for my dad recently when his dog was pts (she was the best). Ds still cries for wreckcat sometimes and it’s been over a year, it’s very hard.

It’s been a scorcher here. Ds had football this morning, I was drenched in sweat and I was just sitting there - ds was so red and got through two big water bottles. We then went to my parents as they have a pool and lots of food 😅 dh was working and we’ve all just got home.

It'll be 99 this time next week! 😱😱😱😱

We haven't had it quite as warm as some have up here. Thank god.

I need to go to the allotment to weed / pick more sodding tomatoes soon. I can't be arsed. I'm giving it up at the end of this season (we have to give notice in Feb if we aren't renewing in April) as it's all a bit much now, what with my dodgy limbs and all. I still have leeks to grow / harvest yet, so we'll wait until they're eaten, then give notice!

WreckTangled · 10/09/2023 12:19

Fluffy do you every have issues with nectar prices not going through? Not personalised ones but normal ones, it happens every week luckily as I scan and shop I notice it and take photos of the offer so they can rectify it before I pay but I think it’s really naughty. Dh has noticed the same when shopping at Tesco and the sceptic in my thinks that they’re doing it on purpose 🤨 this week it was with the easy peelers that are right at the entrance so likely to be picked up by loads of people…

NoWordForFluffy · 10/09/2023 14:05

No, I've not had that issue. The personalised ones I have though, on and off (I also scan and shop so pick it up as I'm shopping).

I'm sorry to hear about your DDog Crazy.

Dull day here. Lots of existing lists getting updated and lots of new ones are started. Hopefully questions will be answered this week. Mad work day ahead so that will distract me. And it's entryway week on the HGP so that means hall, stairs and landings for me. Including under stairs cupboards of chaos, and clearing spider heaven in the corners by the front door....

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 11/09/2023 19:13

I've got the house to myself during the day next week so I'm planning on doing about a month's worth of the HGP while I've got the chance. I also need to check what wrapping paper and tissue paper I've got.

NoWordForFluffy · 11/09/2023 19:45

We <may> be moving before Christmas (very, very early stages of planning), so I'm not bothering with too much here. If it ends up all systems go, I'll have wasted my time, and that would be a shame!

I've just applied for secondary school for DD. Where the hell did that time go?! 😱😱

OP posts:
TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 11/09/2023 20:10

Oh my goodness! Secondary school?? They start Year6 and you think "No way, you're too young" and then by July you think "you are so ready".

DS has just done his penultimate "first day" - I can't believe that I was asking for advice about schools six years ago!

WreckTangled · 12/09/2023 06:30

104 I have to apply for ds’ place too.

I’m on placement at the moment just for four days. It’s made me realise I 100000% do not want to do adult nursing or get old. Or do ward work because starting at 7:30am is outrageous 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 12/09/2023 07:22

I still can't believe your DS has done his GCSEs, Buck! It seems bonkers that it was only yesterday you were discussing his secondary school application.

Wreck, is DS going to the same school as DD? How is she getting on now?

Sounds like community nursing might be for you! Or maybe in a surgery?

It's very wet here, has been all night. The dog is a total dickhead in the rain; it was not an enjoyable walk. 🙄

OP posts:
whydoesitalwayshappentome · 12/09/2023 09:12

I don't mind the 07.30 start Wreck. It's the being attacked bit I really hate. I am definitely too old. Only two shifts next week though and then I change jobs. Woohoo.

WreckTangled · 12/09/2023 16:40

Yes, I’m probably going to stay with the health visiting team when I qualify. 9-5 with some WFH is much more me! Could continue training to be a HV but need a masters which sounds way too hard for me right now!

Ds will go to the same school, yes. Dd is awful it’s school making her so unwell I think. She was unwell in the holidays with fatigue and headache but school makes it a million times worse. I don’t know what to do. We’re starting with a private therapist soon (££££) as there’s just no support at all. I’m very stressed by it all, I just wish I could pull her out of school as then she would be happy but that won’t help in the long term.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/09/2023 06:08

Morning!

It's dark. I always find it a struggle when the days first draw in, but I'll be used to it soon enough!

Sorry your DD isn't well still, Wreck. Must be a nightmare for you. Has she got a diagnosis?

At least you can stay in the HV team you're in when you qualify. When is your qualification date?

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 13/09/2023 06:54

ummm august 2025?! I’ve just completed the foundation degree and now I’m doing an additional two year (it’s 18 months spread over two years).

No diagnosis. Appears to be functional and school makes it a million times worse, but she also feels unwell in the holidays just not as bad. I wish I could afford virtual school for her.

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/09/2023 08:32

I’m so sorry to hear about your DD @WreckTangled, I hope the therapist helps.

Exciting on your training! I am planning to apply to start speech and language therapy next September.

My planner has arrived so now I need to actually start planning Christmas. Am caught up in the HGP :)

Hopingforno2in2023 · 13/09/2023 09:20

Just had the most amazing autumnal walk, mist everywhere.

CrazyBaubles · 13/09/2023 10:33

Very sunny here - hoping it stays that way for at least today so I can clear the washing!

Wreck your poor DD, it must be so frustrating for her.

Hoping what planner did you buy?

Things are all a bit stressful here still. Dm has Covid and it's really effecting her breathing but she is insisting that she's fine.

The house still feels weird without ddog. I keep thinking I need to let him out or turning to talk to him.

'Luckily' I have a busy work day to distract me <yay> 🙄

Cooler today. I've got my knitting group this afternoon and I'll be working on the last bits of my knitted advent calendar.
