What's 'too' early and what's okay?

DC (5) awake for the last hour or so. Snuck downstairs to check he'd been, now too excited about presents to go back to sleep 🙃
I felt a bit of a Grinch for sending back to bed- said we can get up at 6 which feels a bit more acceptable- do you just go with it or do you still have a bit of a boundary?! I can remember being awake early on Xmas morning as a child, and my parents were early birds anyway, but I can't remember when we would start the day!

6.30! Just like every other day. Christmas is special, but not so special that it's better if you're tired.

ChristmasTidyings · 25/12/2022 05:36

Well, they won't sleep again. But I insist on quiet until the last child has woken up. Or 7am, they're allowed to go in and wake the sleeping one at 7.

crisscrosscringle · 25/12/2022 05:36

I say now is fine but my kids - 6 and 15 are still snoring away Envy

ISeeTrees · 25/12/2022 05:37

I had optimistically set the gro clock for 7.30 as usual, but 2 hours is a long time to be taunted/tempted by downstairs!
DC do usually wake up around 6-6.30 but happily stays in bed til it's time to get up.. obviously not today.. I can cope with 6, just didn't want to be a spoilsport!

Know how you feel. Ours came down at 4am and DH not at all happy and wanted them to go back to bed. But DD6 had got up much earlier and gone into DS12. They talked together for a while wondering what time it was etc. so we agreed one present and then back to bed. Nope that didn't work. So we are tired and DH still trying to get back to sleep

mrsbitaly · 25/12/2022 05:41

I'm up before the kids because I'm worse then them 🤣

cliffdiver · 25/12/2022 06:22

DDs are 8 and 11.

We agreed 6.30am.

But I get up at 6.10 to make a cup of tea, because I can remember the excruciating wait for my dad to make a cup of tea before I could open my stocking when I was younger.

ChessieDarling · 25/12/2022 06:26

6 was always the rule when I was growing up. I have a lot of siblings and when I tell you it sounded like a herd of elephants charging down the hallway to our parents room on the dot of six, I’m not exaggerating 😂

Mumdiva99 · 25/12/2022 06:28

I'm awake because rhe cat woke me.....the kids are sleeping.

When we were little we had sticking on our bed and could open on waking. All else waited until after breakfast.

Alternative put book and activity toy on the bed.....then he has something to do till you all wake. - I'm guessing you are all up now.....just an idea for next year.

RobotRumpus · 25/12/2022 06:31

7am just like every other day. Youngest is three, eldest an adult who has magnanimously agreed to being woken up then 😁.
I can remember being awake early as a child, the excitement etc, and the wait at 7am for stockings whilst my Dad made tea and coffee…truly a watched pot never boils.

NoCapesDarling · 25/12/2022 06:33

Here stockings are on the end of the bed and they can open them whenever they like, but on the understanding they don’t wake us up until they hear movement in our room like usual!
Annoyingly I’ve been awake ages as I have a horrible cold but I can just hear DD start to wake up so I’m expecting some excited squeaking soon!

Me too!

They are asleep but I’m awake because I’m so excited 😆

devildeepbluesea · 25/12/2022 06:37

DD been awake since 5.50. She is amazing though, she will wait patiently for her dad to come over at 8.30 - we both like to watch her open pressies. She’s even said she might come with me to walk the dog first!

Onesailwait · 25/12/2022 06:39

My kids have only just gone to bed 10.30pm here. I've told them 7am to get up but opening stockings in their room is ok earlier. We shall see what the night brings. Merry Christmas everyone.

Stickmansmum · 25/12/2022 06:40

I’m lying here bored and wishing they’d wake up! But we do have a 7am rule.

Icedlatteplease · 25/12/2022 06:40

Stockings happened whenever DC were awake. I think the 4 am was a particularly memorable one. I used to then go back to bed until about 7-8. They used to be relatively amused by the stocking in that time.

I had been known to gift wrap the living room to prevent anything else being explored (I have one with random sn and one with adhd)

Ostryga · 25/12/2022 06:57

Dd woke up at 7am on the button and that’s fine. We’ve just got up for coffee and stockings.

Merry Christmas everyone!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/12/2022 06:57

I didnt get to sleep till after 4am, courtesy of a snoring husband, & I woke at 6am 😫

Told the youngest DC no earlier than 7.30am as my mum is staying & she's not an early bird. Middle DC was still awake at midnight so stockings are hung outside their doors instead of on beds so I'm expecting some confused children soon trying to find them

DH is still snoring 😒

Ostryga · 25/12/2022 06:58

i meant 6am 😂 too early clearly!

Outtasteamandluck · 25/12/2022 07:06

I've said 8 am here but DC are 16 and 10

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2022 07:16

No rules here but my kids have never been known to wake chronically early beyond about age 2 so I think the earliest was 6:45 a few years ago. They are 18,17 and 11 and all like their sleep.
im hoping for before 8 today though, we have a lot to do today 😂

Cosycover · 25/12/2022 07:28

No movement here yet. This is longest lie my youngest has ever had!

everydayisthesame · 25/12/2022 07:30

When my dd believed I was the one awake at 3am, waking everyone up, too excited to sleep

MassiveSalad22 · 25/12/2022 07:30

5:30 this morning which felt ok. Earlier than that I think I would have said no. DS’s excited voice definitely infectious though 😄 we’ve already had breakfast and done 2 of the activities they got in their stockings 🙃🙃 have told them they have to wait til 10 to do their presents, we do need to maintain some sense of decorum.

LuckyCharm9 · 25/12/2022 07:32

My sister FaceTimed me at 5:15 this morning, she is 33 and has no kids yet!
DS (8) was already awake and playing quietly in his room, we got up at 5:30.
He is an early riser anyway, so this is standard time for us to be up.
