What's 'too' early and what's okay?

DC (5) awake for the last hour or so. Snuck downstairs to check he'd been, now too excited about presents to go back to sleep 🙃
I felt a bit of a Grinch for sending back to bed- said we can get up at 6 which feels a bit more acceptable- do you just go with it or do you still have a bit of a boundary?! I can remember being awake early on Xmas morning as a child, and my parents were early birds anyway, but I can't remember when we would start the day!

My DS age 5 woke up at 4.45, managed to convince him to go back to bed. I could hear him talking and messing about for about 45 mins but he finally fell asleep again. He's still asleep now.

I never got back to sleep so it'll be a long day.

When I was a kid we were told 7am. My parents had a digital bedside clock and I remember literally waking them at 7 on the dot after standing there for a while.
Then the agonising wait while my mum made tea Xmas Smile

Merry Christmas everyone

I'm sat waiting for everyone to get up! I've been up since 6.30. Dd7 is usually up at this time on any other day but nope this morning she's still fast asleep, along with DH and dd18 and dd15

Adelais · 25/12/2022 07:37

I’ve been awake since 6:30 but both kids still fast asleep! The youngest would normally be up by now.

RewildingAmbridge · 25/12/2022 07:39

4:30 is still night time! DS is still asleep, so is DH. If not for the foxes I would be too

OrpingtonWings · 25/12/2022 09:48

6am is stocking opening time here. It’s the only day of the year the eldest teenager is up early!

1stTimeMama · 25/12/2022 10:13

It's tricky here, my boys are early risers and one was so excited he was awake from about 4, but managed to push it out until 6 as was the suggested time by my husband. My girls and I would much rather it be around 8:30....we did not win that battle!

redambergreen70 · 25/12/2022 10:15

We agreed on 6am… try arrived at our bedside at 6.02am 😂

notacooldad · 25/12/2022 10:20

Ours weren't allowed downstairs on their own on Christmas morning. We used to say that ours was probably one of the last houses FC had to visit so we needed to sure hed been! In reality we wanted to see their reaction to the presents.
We allowed them downstairs at 8.oclock.

Freesia41 · 25/12/2022 11:48

We originally said 7, but DD6 woke at 5, having also been awake from 2-3am coming in and out of our room, so went down at 6.30. 💤

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2022 12:02

Not before 6am.

FallHappy1 · 25/12/2022 12:04

Never before 7am, dS1 (11) and ds2 (10) were in my bedroom 7am on the dot 😂

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 25/12/2022 12:04

I said 7am, the y burst into our room shouting ‘it’s christmaaaaaaas!’ At precisely 7:01 🤣

Goldenphoenix · 25/12/2022 12:07

7am is the earliest here. The kids woke us on the dot of 7am so gawd knows what time they got up and how long they had been clockwatching. We then all open stockings together in our bed.

HippeePrincess · 25/12/2022 12:09

Mine don’t wake any earlier than normal so I’ve never had this rule but if they got up before 7 they’d be going back to bed.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/12/2022 12:10

Blimey. My ds8 doesn’t really wake up before 8/8.30 if you don’t wake him for school, so that’s when he got up today.

I can’t imagine feeling particularly festive with a 6 am start. Bad enough as it is!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 25/12/2022 12:11

(I have a Dd too but she’s 14, ds is 8)

Jinglebellrocks · 25/12/2022 12:12

My 5 year old came in at 3.45am and never went back to sleep! We went downstairs at 7!!

DifferentYearSameShit · 25/12/2022 12:16

7am when they were small but could tell the time (used to put clock on a different time to get a an extra hour) today my teen was awake at 7:15 and got her stocking and woke me up just before 10!!!

GettingStuffed · 25/12/2022 12:22

DGS was up at 5 he then had a cuddle with his mum and opened his stocking. By the time DH got up it was 9. So poor boy had to wait until then to open his presents

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/12/2022 12:23

My 9 year old woke up just after 6 which she hasn't done for ages. I told her ten more twice then felt guilty

PollyEsther · 25/12/2022 12:38

2 of mine woke up at 4am, it was awful! We've never had that happen and my eldest is nearly 16. To be fair to the waking ones, one is 14 and just tried to get back to sleep (he'd woken up thirsty so went to get a drink) and the other (11) did so, so well to stay patiently awake in his room until 6. He has ASD and I'm amazed he managed it, I wouldn't have been surprised at all if he'd been in our bed at 4.15am! Xmas Grin He came in to watch Shaun the Sheep in our bed at 6 and was good as gold.

DD (youngest) woke at 6, but stayed in her room until 6.30 because she thought we were all still asleep, bless her. She was then in the bed too, before we let them go and wake the teenagers at 7. We were downstairs drinking tea/coffee at 7.15, so not too bad really. I wouldn't have let them be up before 6.
