How have you laid your table?

Merry Christmas Eve all!

My rectangular table for 8 so far has:

⭐️ Disposable grey and white snowflake pattern tablecloth (for ease!)
⭐️ Grey placemats and coasters
⭐️ 2 x poinsettias with glitter
⭐️ Red Napkins for each guest folded into Christmas trees with silver stars positioned at the top

What have you got in yours??

We just did ours. No cutlery out yet though.
We have cats but they won't bother with it. Too lazy

That is Sir Monty. Named by DH for his late Father, as it was his Christmas present last year.

We don’t have a table 😬

TwoRockSalmonAndAHaporthOfChips · 24/12/2022 22:06

White cotton tablecloth, then apart from the glasses and cutlery, everything else is Portmeirion Holly and the Ivy pattern - placemats, plates, serving dishes, salt and pepper, etc. Matching disposable napkins. It’s very festive!

Such pretty tables. Most of my dishes are in the hostess trolley. One year I forgot to switch it on 🙈 that mucked up the schedule. The chef aka OH was not amused

Babdoc · 24/12/2022 22:08

For Christmas Eve dinner, we had candles, Christmas crackers, and a flower arrangement picked from whatever in my garden has survived the recent minus 8C frost. Which is basically hellebores, winter jasmine, holly, ivy, viburnum, berberis berries, and silver foliage from the cinnerarias, on a polished wood table. We don’t do tablecloths, but do have white damask napkins in stone rings.
We just repeat for Christmas dinner tomorrow!

maryofthevirginkind · 24/12/2022 22:16

Same as I lay my husband, slowly and carefully 😜

Trumpton · 24/12/2022 22:20

Mary! Really!

I'll also be cutting whatever has survived for the table tomorrow - I have a sinking feeling we only have ivy left with some clementines.

Not even thought about it. Am I bad?

No. Mine get food that’s taken hours to buy, prepare and cook. If they think they’re getting a fancy tablescape as well, they’re destined for disappointment.

Can't find the centre piece I've used for years, but it's simple & pretty

no fancy displays happening here. Need the space on the table for the food ( and need the table for putting presents on ( dog will open them otherwise) and then needed for breakfast. Maybe this time next year I will be in a bigger house 😂

I love this thread-maybe better than the "show me your tree" threads because so much more originality and all so lovely and as I am nosy I love seeing how everyone does it

Gosh no. Hasnt even entered my head.

Me neither.

Does nobody warm plates? Or maybe the plates on the table in advance are for cold starters? Otherwise, I would never set the table with plates in advance as they are got out 5 minutes before eating to warm in the oven.

We are slowly reclaiming the dining room from being a playroom for the last 12 years so I can only take a picture in one direction - behind me is a treadmill and to the right is a huge ikea unit full of games! I briefly considered ironing the tablecloths (last used a year ago) but thought fuck it.

I have a cat but I think the things will put her off! I've added some crackers and will dish up mostly in the kitchen instead of dishes all over the table. I've got eucalyptus napkins and crackers because it's a sentimental plant for me. Also remembered I don't have matching wine glasses and it's annoying me because I wanted to buy some new ones then talked myself out of it to save money.

Lovely tables. Mine's done but I'm in bed so no photos tonight.

Very simple white cloth, gold mats, crystal tea lights and beads. Homemade crackers and red napkins.

I like to serve onto hot plates, so they not on the table.
