Where to find a stocking holder on xmas eve?!

I'm having a nightmare. It's my daughters first Christmas she understands and I can't find a stocking holder anywhere. Obviously it is too late for internet shopping. I don't want to resort to a nail in the fireplace....not yet anyway.

Even any ideas on how to fashion one out of something else are welcome at the stage.

My children’s go over their bedroom door knob

Ursuladevine · 24/12/2022 09:11

How old is she?

AppleKatie · 24/12/2022 09:13

Hang over the end of bed and then when full leave on floor.

UnbeatenMum · 24/12/2022 09:13

We just lay ours on the floor next to the Christmas tree.

KateSilver · 24/12/2022 09:14

Hobby craft I think does them

JanglyBeads · 24/12/2022 09:15

She's under 12 months, I know it feels like it matters to get her stocking right but it really doesn't - what matters, and will truly stay within her, is the love.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 24/12/2022 09:16

We hook ours on our curtain tie-back hooks, and then Christmas eve they are put on the bedroom doors handles x

wonderingwhatsnext · 24/12/2022 09:16

My local garden centre have them, although I agree with pp it's not a necessity.

PinkHeadphones · 24/12/2022 09:18

Ours just go on the floor. I’ve never heard of a stocking holder!

Krakenwakes · 24/12/2022 09:18

I’ve never heard of a stocking holder. We put our stockings on the hearth.

strawberry2017 · 24/12/2022 09:19

We got ours from b and m

Decorhate · 24/12/2022 09:22

I bought one for the first time last year (Aldi). My kids are adults now & remain untraumatised by the lack of one during their childhoods.

This ⬆️ or left on door handle!

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 24/12/2022 09:29

B and M or any otyer shop that sells them (wh smith do, wilko also) comand hooks!

Ours hand on comand hooks. When full they lay on the floor ususally but depending on which one comand hooks can hold a lot of weight.

If its a brick wall they wont stick to well stick on wall next to fireplace.

@JanglyBeads it's the first Christmas the child understands what's going on, not her first Christmas.

My stockings were never hung up anywhere as a child, just laid on the floor under the Christmas tree. Once filled, they would be on the floor, propped up against the sofa or on it.

ChairOfInvisibleStudies · 24/12/2022 09:33

We put ours on the end of the bed - nothing beats the excitement of waking up on Christmas morning and feeling the weight of a full stocking at your feet!

ReindeerSkull · 24/12/2022 09:35

OP said it's the first Christmas that she understands, not her first Christmas full stop so she's not a baby. Still though OP I think you are panicking for no reason, there'll be somewhere you can put the stocking and it will still be magical! I used to hang mine from the fireplace on command hooks, but you could also prop yours against something, hang it on a doorknob or the end of a bed. As long as it has presents in tomorrow morning I doubt she will even notice how it was displayed!

Brunilde · 24/12/2022 09:38

We hang them on the fire but santa leaves them in the bedroom to find as the kids come into our room to open them.

Maybe put something heavy on the loop to 'hang' it up then say santa puts it somewhere as it's too heavy to hang up once it's full

pinklabel · 24/12/2022 09:41

Ours were from The Range I believe

ohidoliketobe · 24/12/2022 09:42

We just leave ours (unfilled and filled) in front of the fire. Stocking hangers are pants once the stocking actually has a bit of weight in it and can slide off the mantle.

  • leave it on the floor
  • try a command hook
  • if you still want to source a holder, try local card/ gift shop?
Augend23 · 24/12/2022 09:43

Do you have a fireguard if you have a mantelpiece? Ours were always hooked into the fireguard.

quickbathroombreak · 24/12/2022 10:14

TK Maxx
The Range
B&Q

Or have you got a C-clamp in a toolbox?

DuchessOfDisco · 24/12/2022 10:28

Ours are tied along the stairs banister. Tonight the dc hang them on their doorknobs and in the morning wake to filled stockings on the end of the bed. Never had a stocking holder

Twoteensonepreteen · 24/12/2022 10:34

We got some candy cane ones this year from b&m that hook over a fireplace (have one spare if you're anywhere near Stafford?) but prior to this I've always just used those suction hooks or drawing pins depending on the type of fireplace we've had at the time.

I don't think my DC have ever noticed how their stockings are hanging up so don't worry too much.

Like someone else said, the living room or bedroom door handle is a good choice if you can't find a holder.

EspeciallyD · 24/12/2022 10:37

They've got to go on the bed, agree with @ChairOfInvisibleStudies feeling the full stocking there with your feet is the best part of Christmas (even when you are an adult Grin)
