I got my Christmas click and collect this afternoon and managed to fit it all in the fridge! Tah dah!
However, it has just occurred to me that I still need to provide dinner tonight and tomorrow (though likely to be takeaway then). And I have nothing! Everything is for either Christmas or Boxing Day! I do have the makings for a lasagna but it's only me and my daughter tonight and she has the flu so is eating little. I think it's going to be baked potatoes with bacon and cheese.
How can I have spent so much money on just two days food? There better be plenty of leftovers to last the few days afterwards!

Make the most of not eating much.
Something on toast or cheese and crackers are always an option.
We just had soup today.

Favouritefruits · 23/12/2022 18:34

I have been to four supermarkets today and my freezer is full, I totally forgot about food for tonight, I really couldn’t be bothered so we opted for a Tesco sandwich meal deal each.

SummerHouse · 23/12/2022 18:38

I was wondering where my people were. I have a turkey that could feed 15 (for eight people) a vat of braised cabbage and four packs of bacon. What's for tea? Not a clue. Nothing in at all.

CocktailNapkin · 23/12/2022 18:38

We have been cooking the last two days for Christmas and forgot about you know, eating on those days as well. Last night we had nachos, tonight Ill probably have an apple and some yoghurt. This whole managing waste thing maybe went a little too extreme the other direction this year!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 23/12/2022 18:44

What's in the cupboard and freezer?

Pasta with tomato sauce
Omelette
Chicken nuggets/fish fingers and chips

HerbErtlinger · 23/12/2022 18:46

My kids have jacket potato and beans for dinner tonight. I think I can throw together some pasta for me and DP later

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 23/12/2022 18:49

We had cheese and crackers, red pepper strips and pears for tea tonight.

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2022 18:50

Yes we had pasta and pesto last night. I got the eye roll from teen when I suggested baked potatoes with bacon and cheese or the soup we have. I could eat any of those but even though she's eating light it's her only meal of the day. I keep staring in the cupboards waiting for something to jump out at me!

Same here - we’re having a roast because that’s what we’ve got in!

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 23/12/2022 18:53

Bacon or fried egg sandwich
Scrambled egg with cheese in and toast

WontLetThoseRobotsDefeatMe · 23/12/2022 18:57

I somehow forgot yesterday evenings evening's meal in my meticulous planning...so we ended up with an Indian takeaway! A nice treat actually, I might plan one in pre-festivities in future years.

Did make me laugh though, going through the fridge with "No! We can't eat that, it's for Christmas/ Eve /Boxing Day!"

evtheria · 23/12/2022 18:58

I get so annoyed with DP who expects that as it's 'holiday week' we will be eating like kings for every single meal, but then loses his head when he sees how much the food shop costs when it's only got Christmas Day extras added on.

Easy stuff:

  • frozen pizzas and salad, corn cobs
  • soups and baguettes
  • leftover Xmas meat or pastrami sandwiches on seeded slice bread, side of coleslaw and pickles
  • egg fried rice with a packet of frozen prawns and veg mix added, sriracha drizzled over
  • leftover cabbage mixed into potato mash and fried like farls, with a side of bacon or sausage, brown sauce
Notthecarwashagain · 23/12/2022 19:04

I’m so relieved to see it’s not just me who has done this!
It’s a weird day because it feels like Christmas but is too far away for Christmas food.

We had chips from the chip shop 😬

Igmum · 23/12/2022 19:17

Yes! Today's food problem has been sorted because we ate out but what about tomorrow? My fridge is heaving. The bits I couldn't ram in there have gone to live in the cellar. But I think DD and I will be on soup and porridge tomorrow.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 23/12/2022 19:17

I do this every year.

Lkydfju · 23/12/2022 19:19

I always do that so this year my food order consists of our normal foods then i added in Christmas stuff as otherwise I end up in the supermarket on 27th to buy stuff for dinners

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 23/12/2022 19:43

We did exactly the same! Last night I managed to rustle up some pasta, and tonight I did a quick lentil curry which was nice but needed another ten minutes.

We have a Beige Banquet on Christmas eve so have plenty in for tomorrow and the following days thank goodness!

Squarerootofpi · 23/12/2022 19:50

Now is the time to abandon hot meals and graze on the Christmas snacks and treats! The dc had bread and butter, apples, feta, matchmakers, chocolate log slice and a mince pie for dinner. I'll be having olives, cheese, sun dried tomatoes and crisps washed down with a few beers 😁

Ilovechoc12 · 23/12/2022 19:52

I've had 8 crackers with Brie cheese. The Xmas day crackers and cheese 😬😬😬 as it looked so yummy!

3 children had - pizza, chips and cucumber

Husband and boy out for dinner ....

So typical and so bored of cooking

Inkpotlover · 23/12/2022 20:06

Same! Fridge is bulging and of course none of it is allowed to be touched until the big day because them's the Christmas rules. Made do with soup and bread tonight, takeaway tomorrow.

Adviceneeded200 · 23/12/2022 20:11

I buy a 3kg ham for Christmas and have cooked that this afternoon and we had some for tea (with veg and mash).

Tomorrow, I've ordered a seafood platter from the fish shop to serve simply on ice with fresh bread, samphire, dips, salad and lemon. All bought, no prep.

bellac11 · 23/12/2022 20:13

This happens to us every year, we never have room or space for any normal dinners or lunches, its all xmas food.

I dont know where people put it in their fridges and we have 2 of each

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 23/12/2022 20:16

I sorted most of my Christmas food shopping yesterday with a run to the supermarket to buy veg.

Today I had to go out and buy 'normal' food for our son - chicken soup, yoghurts, as I had totally forgotten that there is more than one day to Christmas 😁He's fine eating the roast on Christmas day with us, but he won't want the buffet that we'll have on all the other days!

Comedycook · 23/12/2022 20:18

Ha! Same...fridge full of food but nothing to eat.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 23/12/2022 20:18

We whittle down the freezer this time of year. We get an invite Christmas Eve, so tonight we made burgers and yesterday we had seafood pasta.
