'With all the trimmings'

I couldn't even type that without my teeth itching.

I'm sure they'll be plenty more...Smile

“Ick”

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 19/12/2022 11:24

Santa. 🤬. He is Father Christmas.

SockGoddess · 19/12/2022 11:26

I've surrendered re Santa. I hate it but even I say it now or no one knows wtf I mean. Once in a while "Father Christmas" slips out and the kids look at me like I'm 300 years old.

Tidsleytiddy · 19/12/2022 11:26

That Elf on the shelf looks creepy to me. I wouldn’t have liked that when I was a kid, plus it’s just a way of piling more pressure on parents. An unnecessary “add on”.

pastypirate · 19/12/2022 11:31

'Hot chocolate station'

'Ds is a hot chocolate fiend'

pastypirate · 19/12/2022 11:32

But mostly the walkers who post pics of the pile of wrapped gifts under the tree in Facebook. Especially anyone who does that this year!!

PurpleButterflyWings · 19/12/2022 11:35

Urgh, what a snobby demeaning, patronising, unpleasant, rude thread. Hmm

Christmas really does bring out the worst in people on Mumsnet. Oddly, I don't know anyone in real life with the same kind of 'icky,' unpleasant, obnoxious views as the ones I'm reading on here.

I think people looking down their nose at people saying Santa is pathetic and nasty. Many people across the world say this, and it's regional in the UK - like saying 'mom' or 'tea; for the evening meal.

Really nasty thread. Shame on the OP, and people joining in with her. Biscuit

smileandsing · 19/12/2022 11:36

I've always disliked the abbreviation of 'Christmas' to 'Xmas'. Not for religious reasons, I just don't like it.

Santa. 🤬. He is Father Christmas.

Biscuit Such a narrow minded, rude, and bigoted remark. Shame on you.

grannycake · 19/12/2022 11:38

@MingeofDeath Love the user name I managed to avoid the New Year TV by working in a nightclub

Ah shut yer face and let 'em rant if they want to

Bog · 19/12/2022 11:40

Christmas eve boxes.
Now I love spoiling our son and can be rather Disney dad I admit.
My wife would be furious with me when I die if I gave our son one. She said it was a load of bollocks. I will take my punishment for the elf on shelf though.

Premature Christmas excitement followed by a tree down on Boxing Day. And these are the people who advertise both things excessively through social media.

I really love a social media post where someone is still having Irish coffees for breakfast on the 5th January in the face of adversity, now that's knowing how to enjoy yourself!

I agree with the premature Christmas celebrations! People who take their Christmas stuff down on Boxing Day makes me feel very sad. My tree is up until mid January.. (partly because I love it but also because taking it down involves a lot of effort)

applejack18 · 19/12/2022 11:40

I am LOVING this thread. Making me laugh out loud. Spot on. Thank you for brightening up this dreary wet day.

Not an ick, but maybe giving more Christmas laughs, take a look at Philomena Cunk on Christmas on the BBC iplayer.

ReneBumsWombats · 19/12/2022 11:40

crispsandnuts · 19/12/2022 07:38

Definitely agree. Excess in everything, food, presents and alcohol then wonder why they're fat, diabetic and skint In January 🤣

'Stuffing our faces' usually a FB status

But why am I fat, diabetic and skint in July?

'Breaking up' from work. Schools break up, I finish one day for annual leave

Some workplaces close over the Christmas period so their staff really will 'break up' for Christmas.

amatsip · 19/12/2022 11:41

More about new year than Christmas.

I hate having to say Happy New Year to randoms for the first few days of Jan.

Raises my anxiety no end. Especially minding my own business and other dog walkers saying it so I feel compelled to say it.

Same in shops, petrol stations etc. I don’t want to talk to anyone but feel I have to reciprocate with it.

MrsRinaDecker · 19/12/2022 11:43

Not ick as such, but I’m not fond of “what did you get from Santa?” as a colloquialism for asking kids about their Christmas presents (at least in part down to having one very literal dc who would start listing the pants and socks and bubble bath, because Santa only brought stockings in our house, rather than the Lego set or iPod or whatever..)

FrangipaniBlue · 19/12/2022 11:45

Most of the things on this thread don't actually give me the ick per se and I don't judge anyone who does these things.

But it's the posting of it all over social media.

Do it because you enjoy doing it, but the world doesn't need to see you doing it. A bit like sex really.

LemonSwan · 19/12/2022 11:45

@Musidora

Oh no hahah. First year with since my boy as grandchild this is what I got for my parents 😱

To be fair I have sourced photos other than just the grandchild lol 😂

Will take note that won’t do it next year.

Please forgive me, I'm peri menopausal...
Far from a snob, just a lighthearted thread HmmHmm

I will celebrate all things Ick-tastic from now on - just for you Xmas ConfusedXmas Biscuit

Adults telling other adults "we've got some rather naughty elves at our house!"

Excessive angst about children "not believing". I've seen posts on local groups fretting about which local Santas have a non-synthetic beard...

I assume you don't actually mean walkers🤣

It doesn't give me the ick but I do find amusement in families who go for a country walk on Christmas Eve all dressed up in their shiny new walking-in-the-country outfits looking like something from a 1980's clothing catalogue.

The dogs & I don't see them any other day of the year.

😂 Shame on me? Really? Get a grip. Perhaps Father Christmas could bring you one. Merry Christmas. 🎅🏼
