What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

We take our 7 under 5s to a fake Weatherspoons for an all day drinking bender.

Surely you get a breakfast deal as part of that.

knittingaddict · 29/11/2022 13:15

Never heard of it and I'm going to pretend that I haven't read this thread. Ridiculous.

I used to serve up champagne and orange juice with fresh croissants, french unsalted butter, french jam and then a type of continental breakfast with different meats, cereals, fruit and yoghurt. Then we open the first day of our advent calendar.

On a Thursday?

I don’t think I’d be very effective at work after a champagne breakfast.

I'd say pretty much everyone will be doing a North Pole breakfast on Thursday.

I've never even heard of this!

badbaduncle · 29/11/2022 11:18

Eat toast leaning over the skink whilst shouting for DC to leave the house?

At least you're eating it over the sink and not all over the house - this is to be commended Grin

Pint and a burger for under a fiver, kids love it. By tea time we are well sorted.

bookworm14 · 29/11/2022 13:17

A lot of made-up nonsense. Mind you, I feel the same way about Christmas Eve boxes and a lot of people seem to believe they are a venerable, time-honoured tradition, so what do I know?

dementedpixie · 29/11/2022 13:20

We don't do elf on the shelf (kids are teens and ot never existed when they were younger), Christmas eve boxes or the North Pole breakfast that I never heard of until today. We do have advent calendars

Fizbosshoes · 29/11/2022 13:20

I heard of it a few years ago but I've never thought of doing myself. We very rarely eat breakfast together anyway, I'm 100% sure my kids won't miss it

Bluesheep8 · 29/11/2022 13:21

*I'd say pretty much everyone will be doing a North Pole breakfast on Thursday.

I've never even heard of it!*

This is the first I've ever heard of it. I will now pretend I've never heard of it

Reindeer bacon bap?

Notanotherusername4321 · 29/11/2022 13:23

Inspired by mumsnet I am going to get up at 5 am to prepare

1st December boxes: christmas Pj’s, Christmas blanket, Christmas books, an advent calendar, Mariah Carey/buble CD, and some tinsel.

1st December “North Pole” breakfast: eggs, smoked salmon, bagels, orange juice, fresh fruit.

plus of course the elf arrives so that needs arranging in a complicated and innovative manner.

unfortunately it’s a school day, we will have to trim the tree and watch Santa Clause after school.

MyTing · 29/11/2022 12:31

But it's not a Christmas Day. It's a normal day !

Exactly!

I'm all for celebrating Christmas, and the run up to it, and read the Christmas threads out of interest to see what others do, even if I don't do it myself.

01 December is not Christmas. Or even the start of Christmas. It's just odd that people keep looking for more & more ways to go OTT

Seaweedandsalt · 29/11/2022 13:24

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 11:15

I have no idea what you're talking about - is this a thing?

I must be very out of touch 😂

Me too. I didn't know this was ' a thing'.

CointreauVersial · 29/11/2022 13:25

That's a new one on me.....

Fortunately my little darlings have left home so I don't have to worry that I've never heard of it.

NightTerrors · 29/11/2022 13:28

Whatever spoonful of cereal I can coax into them before the school run? Same as every other school day really just with added chocolate from the advent calender 😂 I could make the most elaborate, amazing breakfast possible though and my two still wouldn't eat it so I won't waste my time.

Fixyourself · 29/11/2022 13:28

OP step away from Instagram and unfollow all the cringe mums who think up these pure shite ideas.

Sistanotcista · 29/11/2022 13:28

This thread is brilliant. Some of the replies are so tongue-in-cheek clever. Thank you for bringing me a smile.

Backtothegymgirl · 29/11/2022 13:31

I’d never heard of this. So many new traditions popping up, elf on the shelf, North Pole breakfast, Xmas eve boxes, matching Xmas pyjamas etc. My child is a young adult. Quite relieved we didn’t have all these expectations when she was little 😂

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 29/11/2022 13:32

AttilaTheUOkHun · 29/11/2022 13:23

Reindeer bacon bap?

Brown sauce with that, please.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 29/11/2022 13:39

I’d never heard of this. So many new traditions popping up

They've started playing Christmas songs on some radio stations already. I accidentally caught one the other day and they were playing Paul McCartney's 'Wonderful Christmastime', with the verse 'The party's on, the feeling's here that only comes this time of year'. This time of year? Why, what happens in the last week of November (apart from St Andrew's Day, maybe)?

Channel 5 have also been showing their daily schmaltzy Christmas films for weeks now.

I honestly think that we're going to end up eventually with the year effectively being considered as Christmas, with every other day specifically marked for some kind of new tradition to prepare for it (or wind down from it).

diamondpony80 · 29/11/2022 13:40

I've never heard of anyone actually doing a North Pole breakfast. First I heard of it was here on Mumsnet last year. I can safely say we've never, and won't ever, be doing one. Pumping kids full of sugar and chocolate on a school morning is a recipe for disaster and totally unnecessary.

fairtrauchled · 29/11/2022 13:40

Same as I have for breakfast every other day of the year, usually toast or a croissant or cereal.
Never knew 1st Dec warranted a special breakfast

lollipoprainbow · 29/11/2022 13:41

Another ridiculous thing !
