What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

I don’t know, the butler sorts it out for me

HauntedPencil · 29/11/2022 15:56

There seems to be a sport in it and it's only on a few topics - Christmas breakfasts or a box even if it's little PJs and hot chocolate for kids on Christmas Eve.

Anyone that dares put a tree up prior to advent THE HORROR

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 16:06

Having a fancy breakfast on Xmas day is traditional. It's a feast day, after all, so (in my house) salmon and fizz is popular.

North Pole Breakfasts are something else and not traditional at all.

Blimey the vitriol aimed at people that just want to have a bit of extra at breakfast time for one day is unbelievable

A lot of you certainly ain't on the nice list are you?

Come on now

I think it's good that people are pushing back against all this extra stuff, to be honest.

There's enough pressure around Christmas as it is, without adding loads more expensive and unnecessary "traditions" into the mix.

Of course it's a nice thing to do if you urge the time and the money, but lots of people don't and don't need the pressure to spend and "perform" even more 🤷🏻‍♀️

And? What's your problem? The OP didn't ask what is a traditional breakfast. Bog off back to AIBU Biscuit

RobinRobinMouse · 29/11/2022 16:12

Weetabix probably.

Rudolphscarrot · 29/11/2022 16:12

I might do something like this, but it won't be on the 1st. My 3 year old already asks daily if it's Christmas yet. I might do it sometime during Christmas week, maybe even Christmas Eve morning.

I'm thinking candy canes made from banana and Strawberries and then christmas tree crumpets if i can find any. Might get some milkshake as well. I'll break out the Christmas tablecloth and plates/cups. Nothing earth shattering.

DD is going to have 'sleighs on snow, with a mini Santa topping'. Aka, shredded wheat with milk and strawberries same as every day

Love this, psml😂😂

lollipoprainbow · 29/11/2022 16:18

@PeeJayDay sensitive much ?? Carry on with your over the top nonsense as you like but us mere mortal mums don't all have the time, money or frankly the inclination !!

Hooverphobe · 29/11/2022 16:32

I’m cringing myself inside-out at the thought of grown women being “influenced” by SM shite. What is WRONG with you?

Newwardrobe · 29/11/2022 16:36

It's fine if people have their own special traditions around Christmas but when everyone jumps on a sm bandwagon it's all a bit cringey.

I actually feel really sorry for people who get so caught up in all this American / Instagram / fake / media - invented nonesense... You must either have a really empty boring life or be so completely obsessed with "posting photos" of every little "special" minute, while other people around you get on with their actual lives... I can't imagine living like this, constantly focussed on what new idiotic fantasy day I should be performing (and presumably photographing / videoing) next. But then I feel equally sorry for the (mostly mums) parents who then become aware of some last minute panic of what other people seem to be insisting is now a new tradition when it's not. It puts me in mind of being back in the upper fourth on a Monday morning and wandering into school only to be met with the sudden panic realisation that it's a physics end of unit test I forgot to revise for. But all the time, every day. These "special days" seem to be dropping up a lot lately. Crackers. Please think of the type of entitled human you are going to be sending forth into the world by bringing them up in such a bizarre way... Or maybe move to America? 😆 By the way, toast and Cheerios here I imagine!

I've been doing this for nearly 22 years long before Facebook or Instagram.
My older children who I started doing it for are now fully functioning young adults, my children aren't entitled because I make them pancakes and put a Christmas table cloth on!
Enjoy your cereal, where do Cheerios come from again?

PawANDmarshmallow · 29/11/2022 16:40

Coffee, toast and porridge, same as every day.

I mean j could ask you as I find gratuitously nasty posts like this super cringe too - what's wrong with you?

YouBelongHere · 29/11/2022 16:51

I don't know why everyone's banging on about 'buying a bunch of tat' when we're talking about breakfast? Most people eat breakfast every morning.

Also the whole idea of 'we don't need more traditions' - surely traditions are per family? My favourite tradition is going to the panto on Christmas Eve with members of my family, some people's tradition is to go on Boxing Day, some earlier in the month, some later and some families don't go at all, it's not set in stone and mandatory for the whole country to follow everyone's traditions?

And the whole 'oh more over the top nonsense-' a lot of parents mentioned they give their kids fruit for breakfast, would it be so over the top to cut up their strawberries and banana and make it into a candy cane shape as a little 'hey it's December now, Christmas month, that's exciting!' Or cutting their usual toast into a Christmassy shape?

Christmas is what you make it - for some people it starts on December 1st, some the end of November, some on Christmas Day itself.

I'm sure the term 'North Pole Breakfast' is trademarked by the Elf on the Shelf people but doing something slightly different for your child's breakfast on December 1st isn't buying into consumerism for gods sake. It doesn't even have to be a big spread, no one's said that! So many adults getting worked up about breakfast, jesus wept.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/11/2022 11:35

What? Probably a coffee and a cigarette, same as any other normal day Hmm

Same as my kids.

HauntedPencil · 29/11/2022 16:55

Oooo you're hard

thelobsterquadrille · 29/11/2022 17:03

I don't know why everyone's banging on about 'buying a bunch of tat' when we're talking about breakfast? Most people eat breakfast every morning.

It's more that it's yet another "trend" that puts extra pressure on parents who may be already struggling.

Yes, people eat breakfast everyday, but many parents of primary-aged children don't need the pressure of making a "Christmas breakfast" before school when they're limited on time, money and energy as it is.

Then you see all your children's friends enjoying huge, festive breakfasts on social media, your children come home and tell you about all the nice stuff everyone else has eaten and it's just another thing to feel guilty over.

Nanof8 · 29/11/2022 17:07

December 1, the elves arrive with the advent calendars. No fancy breakfast as it's a school/work day.

Justwanttobebythesea · 29/11/2022 17:10

We had a North Pole breakfast today - no heating on in the kitchen, had a real North Pole atmosphere to it.

stargirl1701 · 29/11/2022 17:16

Advent calendar sweetie before porridge here!

ninjafoodienovice · 29/11/2022 17:25

What fresh hell is this?

"sensitive much ?? Carry on with your over the top nonsense as you like but us mere mortal mums don't all have the time, money or frankly the inclination !!"

Not at all @lollipoprainbow you're the one with all the exclamation marks love. Don't get worked up, there's nothing over the top or expensive about my 1st December breakfast 🤣.

I don't know why you are so proud to "quite frankly not have the inclination" to toast a Christmas tree shaped crumpet instead of a round one for your own kids but there you go.

The fact you need to come on the Christmas boards to berate other people for not being "mere mortals" like you what the fuck are you on about suggests you might be a bit sensitive yourself.

snugglyblanket · 29/11/2022 17:57

Nothing fancy here but I'll probably pick up a box of different (extra sugary 😂) cereal, something that they don't normally have. If I'm lucky they might grab an apple but probably not.

We tend to do pancakes a couple of times in December, only on weekends, so I might use squirty cream & fruit to make a Santa face or something then.
