Just a reminder to check bags before leaving a shop

Just a reminder to check your bags before leaving a shop, I went to Claire’s today and got the buy 3 get 3 free, I got 12 items she packed the bags behind the counter on the floor so I never saw her pack them when I got home there was only 12 items in the bag and the biggest one missing, no chance it fell out as the bags was tied and it was a very big item. My son is gutted as he was with me and he chose it for Xmas, kicking myself for not checking the bags till I got home. One very disappointed child now as we travelled quite far to get it.

Have you got your receipt. Ring the store. They must have noticed and probably expected you to go back

girlmom21 · 25/11/2022 19:03

Call the store.

FeltCarrot · 25/11/2022 19:17

You said you got 12 items and when you got home there were 12 items. Am I missing something?

SpinningFloppa · 25/11/2022 19:18

Meant 11 one missing.

Doubt they will admit to it they will say I lost it,but there is no chance bags were tied too late now anyway, I travelled quite far to get there, it’s my own fault really for not checking 😣 so just reminding others.

Ah, that’s a shame. Is it worth ringing the shop? If it fell out or wasn’t packed there the sales assistant might remember.

Why are you assuming the store staff will not tell the truth?
I would definitely ring them

Probably because it happened to me before I ordered from the coop on Uber eats and half my shopping was missing and I called the coop asking if they had my missing bags as I could go to collect them and they said they didn’t, and I have no proof.

There's no harm in asking. If they say no you're no worse off.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 25/11/2022 19:29

Getting home from one expensive Xmas shopping trip we (dd and me) realised dd had put the bags down and left them......
Shop was then closed. Rang next day (Sunday) and a cleaner had found them and handed them in!!
Long drive back but we got everything back!
Staff can be honest you know!

chikp · 25/11/2022 19:32

Sounds well dodgy. Why would she pack them on the floor and tie the bags up!

I did similar browsing Waterstones when the dc where small. Put bags down and then went home, realised I was missing a couple of bags with clothes in, dashed back to the shop and they were where I’d left them!

Their counters are pretty small

Their counters are pretty small

But their items are pretty small

OP said it was a big item, lots of little items can take up a lot of space too.

Ah fair enough

I've not been to a claires for ages

Still reckon she pinched it

WaddleAway · 25/11/2022 19:38

Nothing to lose by ringing to check.

FiveShelties · 25/11/2022 19:40

I suppose if you were bothered about finding it, you would ring the store.

SpinningFloppa · 25/11/2022 19:40

She packed them down on the floor, the whole interaction was weird but I know I will be told I was paranoid, after she packed them she didn’t hand them to me she said “ok bye” I had to say where are my bags, that’s when she did a “oh whoops” that she had forgot to hand them to me, the other woman then said to her “it’s 3 bags” so she came found from behind the counter and handed me 3 tied up bags the other woman at the till made a joke about her wanting them for herself and I laughed along with them at the joke but then when I get home and one is missing sorry but I think it was deliberate that’s why I know I won’t get it back and I have no proof of any of it they are hardly just going to hand me another one for free.

It would take you 3 minutes to phone and ask.

SpinningFloppa · 25/11/2022 19:43

It’s shut. Closed at 5.30. I posted just as I got home like I said I traveled far (an hour) to get there.

I work in a shop . Occasionally it happens s when it's busy that we forget an item or a customer leaves behind one of their own items. I always feel really bad for the customer.
We would always print a copy of the receipt and a note to say left out of customers bag or customer left behind . We would keep it for a week or two and if we don't have customer contact details we hope that they notice and come back.

request to talk to the senior manager (not supervisor) at the store, and explain what happened diplomatically without emotion, and then explain what you want done, them to go through their CCTV, if they don’t believe you and to send the missing item.

You also need to make a complaint to Claire’s head office using the website Resolver, it’s super easy and I’ve found going through them gets better results. Also Twitter helps too.

This is exactly what you should do. You have nothing to lose by trying.

CryCeratops · 25/11/2022 19:54

Give them a call tomorrow when they open.

They may have noticed you left it and put it aside in case you come back in.
And if they say they don’t know anything about it, then you’re no worse off than you are now.
