Just a reminder to check bags before leaving a shop

Just a reminder to check your bags before leaving a shop, I went to Claire’s today and got the buy 3 get 3 free, I got 12 items she packed the bags behind the counter on the floor so I never saw her pack them when I got home there was only 12 items in the bag and the biggest one missing, no chance it fell out as the bags was tied and it was a very big item. My son is gutted as he was with me and he chose it for Xmas, kicking myself for not checking the bags till I got home. One very disappointed child now as we travelled quite far to get it.

The Uber Eats story is not even vaguely similar to what has happened today though is it? It’s more than likely that the Uber driver accidentally gave your shopping to another customer, or mislaid it - the co-op staff didn’t steal it.
Ring the store tomorrow and tell them you left an item behind.
Odd that she tied the bags up, can’t even picture how she’d have done that, do they not still use the white paper carrier bags?

SpinningFloppa · 25/11/2022 20:08

Bags was plastic, I was distracted with my children so didn’t notice what was happening behind the counter but remember it taking long when she gave them I just thought she was being helpful by tying them, I will call them in the morning.

(the Uber eats story the guy didn’t deliver to anyone else there is tracking he had no deliveries before me)

As I said the interaction was weird she “forgot” to give me my bags from behind the counter, I’ve never had that happen before then get home to find one item missing the most expensive, of course im going to assume they will tell me I must have misplaced it, I traveled very far and it cost a lot of money, there is no need to be rude I have no proof of what happened so I’m assuming I won’t get anywhere as it’s my word against there’s.

Not everyone has money to throw away so close to Christmas and my son is upset about the missing toy.

If she did steal it I hope karma gets her and it falls apart as soon as she trys to sell it on

But nobody is saying that you should throw money away. People are trying to help you to resolve it by contacting them. Ok, it's closed now, but it will be open again soon.

The only person suggesting you throw money away is you. Everyone else thinks you should follow it up.

HadEnoughOfBears · 25/11/2022 20:26

Presumably the shipping will be open again at 9am tomorrow...

HadEnoughOfBears · 25/11/2022 20:26

Contact them as soon as possible when they are open again and explain in a confident tone exactly what happened. If you are immediately thinking you’ve lost out and won’t get anywhere and it’s noticeable in your voice, you might not get anywhere. You know you’re right, you’ve paid for something and not got it, so make sure they know you expect to get it.

NConcemore · 25/11/2022 20:28

DH accident my scanned 2 of the most expensive item in a top up shop in Asda last week. Somehow he didn't notice until he got home but went into Asda with the receipt a couple of days later and they refunded it no questions asked and didn't even check cctv to make sure he hadn't taken 2. It's very possible she was new/having a bad day which is why the interaction was odd. Even if they don't believe you they might replace the item in the hope that you'll leave a good review. God knows they could do with some good publicity at the moment - lots of negative comments on social media about their ear piercing recently and I saw in store last week that they've started doing nose piercings!!

All the more reason to phone them.

SpinningFloppa · 25/11/2022 20:35

I will call in the morning

My teenager bought a moderately expensive lip gloss in Boots a couple of weeks ago and realised a short time later that she didn't have it on her / I her bag - she thinks she most likely didn't pick it up from the self scanning till.

She went back to Boots to ask if it had been left behind, and the staff member very kindly said she believed her story and gave her another lip gloss.

So it's always worth asking!

AndSoFinally · 25/11/2022 21:04

Did you leave your email for the receipt? If you did, surely they'd have contacted you if they noticed and were intending to hand it back. I think you might be right, OP

WaddleAway · 25/11/2022 21:06

If it was a large item, I can’t see how the staff member could have stolen it from behind the counter without anyone noticing? Wouldn’t other staff members ask what she was doing with it?

Yes I left my email 😔 the other member of staff that was there said “it was 3 bags” thought that was an odd comment as why would she specify the amount you would have just given the bags that was there, how many others was there, I was the only one in the shop as it was just before closing

I have no idea why people are getting arsey with the OP.

Plus, it’s actually often quite hard to ring a store. I had this with Sainsbury’s. I left my purse there when DS was a newborn and I tried to ring to ask if they had it but I just kept being put through to a nationwide line!

Livelovebehappy · 25/11/2022 21:18

Its not like Claire’s sells high worth items. I can’t see why the shop person would risk being spotted/caught out stealing, just to get a freebie which, let’s be honest, will probably be worth less than her hourly salary. I would get it if she worked at some upmarket store selling expensive stuff, but it just doesn’t make sense. It’s probably just that she wasn’t being careful when packing, and something dropped out, or was missed.

Thank you yes I don’t know why people are being rude of course I’m imagining the worst!

Some staff are honest! We had a wallet left in the office over 24 hours so I looked up the name on fb and contacted him, there was over £500 in the wallet and barely a thanks when he collected 🤦‍♀️😂

plaide · 26/11/2022 12:13

Was just wondering if you have managed to contact them today? It's such a shame for you.

LubaLuca · 26/11/2022 12:19

Most shop staff will be grateful that you've called and their mistake will be put right. They're probably worried that you'll accuse them of deception and put in a complaint.
