Do you deep clean before tree goes up

Normally i do.and regularly in the year All cupboards and drawers etc under furniture but last year the day before i cleaned for ages. You know when u have stuff all in the wrong rooms, kids toys etc.

Then by time we emptied loft put tree up etc there was crap everywhere so was pointless doing it in the lounge anyway.
Wondering if not to bother this year and do after.

No, after Christmas. I deep clean with the new year when decorations come down

SavouryFlavour · 24/11/2022 17:02

Isn't that Santa's job? What are all those elves for?

ReadtheReviews · 24/11/2022 17:02

Yes and throw things out that the kids havent looked at for ages. Storage is like gold dust in my house.

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 24/11/2022 17:04

I do when decs are down too!

Ive already sorted old toys they no longer use in playroom and donated /binned broken bits.

Deep clean every single year. Then I had kids... hasn't happened since

RedToothBrush · 24/11/2022 17:05

Why the fuck would I ruin the joy of Christmas coming?

We have the whole month of January for self inflicted misery. With left over crappy turkey and sprouts.

DoubleNit · 24/11/2022 17:06

I have a big declutter because we need to move a couple of bits to get the tree in. Cleaning just as normal though and then I do a big clean before new year.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 24/11/2022 17:09

I wipe the floor where the tree goes because we usually have an armchair there. Then I have to wipe where the bookshelf usually goes because we put the armchair there. Then I have to wipe the corner where the floor lamp usually goes because we squeeze the bookshelf in beside it.
I bought a new tree last year and slightly overestimated the amount of space we've got.
No deep cleaning happens though, either before it goes up or when it comes down. Standards are pretty low in this house.

Jaffacakeorisitabiscuit · 24/11/2022 17:10

Yes - well, maybe not a deep clean but a 'proper' clean, skirting boards, ceiling lights, carpet edges, furniture polished, cushions off sofa, top of bookcases etc. DH gets the carpet cleaner out. I like knowing the house is properly clean because it doesn't get much attention between tree going up and Twelfth Night.

ChilomenaPunk · 24/11/2022 17:11

Just normal cleaning. Give things a dust and hoover.

Goldieshock · 24/11/2022 17:14

Yes

Just about finished the list with doing lots of little jobs

The tops of the kitchen units was the worst job

Realise how much paint work needs touching up but it's clean ready to decorate for Christmas in a couple of weeks

Cleanthatup · 24/11/2022 17:33

Yep deep clean as I do once a month anyway and chuck out all the crap from last year to make more room for this years crap too!

PurplePixies · 24/11/2022 17:45

What's a deep clean?? Fuck that for a game of soldiers. A brief tidy will be fine. 😂

monsteronahill · 24/11/2022 17:49

I do! Tidy away all of my autumn decor, deep clean and de clutter - then whack out all of the Christmas clutter 😂 I do the same in January when the decorations come down too! It's really cathartic.

Cosycover · 24/11/2022 17:54

Yep I do.
I'm doing it tomorrow infact.

I decluttered the toy room a few weeks ago but it's still a shambles tbh. I have no idea how the new stuff will fit!

Inasec24 · 24/11/2022 17:55

I mean to, but always ends up a shallow clean! Then deep clean in Jan when the decs come down.

Greensleeves · 24/11/2022 17:57

In my mind, I do Grin

I always intend to do a good deep clean and get everything blissfully sparkling and orderly so we can enjoy Christmas with a bit less stress. It never seems to quite work out that way. None of us is very good at cleaning, tbh.

Hbh17 · 24/11/2022 17:58

I'm glad somebody has asked "what is a deep clean?" because I have no idea either. I have never heard anybody in real life use this expression. Sometimes rooms/things get cleaned, and sometimes they don't!

Fairislefandango · 24/11/2022 17:58

No. Sod that for a game of soldiers! I barely have time to shallow clean Grin

Freefromeverything · 24/11/2022 18:10

No because I do 3 hours cleaning every day so it doesn’t need it !!! A combination of big family+additional needs+a condition where we need to minimise illness and me needing time and space (cleaning relaxes me) means it’s never too bad

plinkplinkfizzer · 24/11/2022 18:39

I do but I also dislike to put the tree up too early 'cos I hate the feeling the tree is a dust magnet . I always take the parts of the tree and tinsel and shake them outside before putting up or when taking down .

turnedintomygran · 24/11/2022 18:43

No - I deep clean 4 times a year - Jan/Apr/Jul/Oct. I do give a tidy and dust and hoover (afterwards), I mean it's got to look nice, but no deep cleaning for me.

bringincrazyback · 24/11/2022 18:45

Heck no. I don't always get around to a normal clean before tree goes up, let alone a deep clean 😄I give it all a good going over when the decs come down though.

Stichintime · 24/11/2022 18:47

Yes I do, every year. Also before I go on holiday and then sporadically at other times.

GettingStuffed · 24/11/2022 18:53

Usually but this year I'm split, caring for my mother-in-law and DH so no time. DH has started putting the light decorations up but he can't do any lifting
