Literally can't find anything I would want to give anyone

Is it just me or is there just so much crap out there for presents for teens. Most of the people I buy for don't really want anything specific and the others seem to have everything I've thought of that might work for them.

When I look online and in the shops there's just nothing new and innovative, and anything out of the ordinary costs £££s. The stocking fillers are all the same as they've been for years and don't get me started on joke gifts.

Obviously I'm channeling the Grinch big time but there's absolutely nothing inspiring out there to buy.

Just go with money that's always a crowd pleaser but I know what you mean about everything is either very expensive or pointless

mam0918 · 23/11/2022 18:30

In THIS global anyone can release anything world you can't find anything new or interesting?

You musn't be looking very hard

Cherryrainbow · 23/11/2022 23:55

I've found better finds online than I have in the shops these days. I've generally not been feeling that festive this year even in the shops the feeling is quite blah.

HelloBunny · 23/11/2022 23:58

So much festive tat out there, all of the usual suspects. It’s manufactured, so people buy it. If none of it even existed, we wouldn’t even miss it... Same with the massive supply of food. Most of it will go to waste.

HelloBunny · 24/11/2022 00:00

Saw something so stupid in the shops today. It was so pointless, I can’t even remember what it was! I just recall rolling my eyes hard...

Circumferences · 24/11/2022 00:03

Are they boy or girl teens? What are their interests?
There's always a nice box of chocolates at least surely for anyone teenaged?

This is my go-to site for more intelligent gifts. Helps that you can search by specific field of interest.

Particularly good for science-minded/whoever's a bugger to buy for!

That’s a great website! Some funky stuff.

StandUpStraight · 24/11/2022 05:31

@TheFauxFighters thanks for the recommendation - have just bought some great presents and cards for music- and science-minded family members!

AutumnCrow · 24/11/2022 05:34

Loving the ‘architectural proportions’ card and the ‘types of brick’ tea towel!

Icedlatteplease · 24/11/2022 05:34

God yes!!! If its good people have it already, if its not people really don't need it

TheFauxFighters · 24/11/2022 06:10

@AutumnCrow
@StandUpStraight,

Glad it helped. It has saved me from tears of despair on several occasions!

SchrodingersKettle · 24/11/2022 06:17

RedBubble have a sale on right now. Dig around and there's some good stuff for teens - quirky and funny for all tastes, or thought provoking, or woke ans irritating. Or hobby based eg sports photos, the periodic table etc. You can get them as T shirts or notebooks or tote bags or posters or loads of products.

My dd is getting an awesome "you are here" milky way poster. (There's also a great poster with the Carl Sagan "pale blue dot" quote in full). For the kid who has everything but wants more, what better than the gift of perspective?

Definitely this

went to mall recently and got very little, more availability and better deals online

My DD has suggested stuff to me from: Etsy, Glossier, eBay.

elephantcandle · 24/11/2022 06:29

I know what you mean OP. There is so much tat.

TheFauxFighters · 24/11/2022 06:31

Possibly the wisest post on the entire Mumsnet Christmas board.

Twiglets1 · 24/11/2022 06:32

I know what you mean. Going to try hard this year not to buy anything for anyone that is likely to end up binned!
But inevitably I will receive some tat that ends up in the bin/recycled in January.

Agree !

mamabluestar · 24/11/2022 07:58

I absolutely agree OP

I haven't been able to get out for a while due to injuries from an accident. Ventured out with my DH for an hour this week and wish I hadn't bothered.

Saz12 · 24/11/2022 11:48

Problem is, a lot of people buy the things they need/want already, so unless it’s staggeringly thoughtful (ie even they’ve not realised that it’s improve their lives), then really it’s just crap.

Lovemusic33 · 24/11/2022 12:10

I agree, I’m struggling with my teens but tbh they don’t need/want much. I have cut back in buying novelty tat because it’s a waste of money and won’t get used. I stick to one item they have asked for (main gift), clothes and food. If buying for other teens I would go for a voucher or cash.

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 24/11/2022 12:11

I mostly buy online - I find the actual shops to be painful to walk around! So much utter rubbish

FinanceLPlates · 24/11/2022 13:46

It’s Museum Shop Sunday this Sunday - lots of museums, galleries, tourist attractions etc. offering special deals (online and/or on site). https://culturalenterprises.org.uk/museum-shop-sunday/whats-on/

Some have the usual tourist tat but there are lots with original items as well, and you’re supporting a good cause. I like the V&A and Shakespeare’s Globe (good for T-Shirts and quirky stuff, you might find something for your teenagers there). Or the transport museum if they’re keen on trains etc. ? But there’s lots more that I haven’t explored yet.

Thank you so, so much for the link to that website. It's literally saved my Christmas gift life! Had no idea what I was going to get my niece and nephew this year, there's some perfect stuff on there. Much appreciated.

KangarooKenny · 24/11/2022 13:52

My teens like the fluffy PJ’s and socks from Primark, and the extortionate Snow Fairy shower gel from Lush.
