So unprepared and not ready for all the Christmas present buying malarkey this year.

I just have no energy or time to get my self into gear!

Anyone else not made a start?
Normally so prepared and shop in advance .....this year I'm so not bothered!

Need to try and get into the festive mood 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

I've made a start, in fact I've got quite a few bits but I'm feeling zero percent Christmassy. Not like me.

Redcupcode · 21/11/2022 17:38

I’m the same. I’ve (barely) made a start, I m not even looking forward to the Christmas shopping like I do usually. I haven’t got any decs up and they’re normally up mid November. I need the Christmas spirit to come and slap me in the face!

Aixellency · 21/11/2022 17:46

Christmas doesn’t need me to be excited for it.

Am I excited about Christmas? Apprehensive, if anything. Hoping that I and all my relatives can get through it without any major drama or upset. All the political and financial instability means I delayed shopping and baking - have only just started so need to keep a lid on panic and misery.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/11/2022 17:56

I expect some turkeys are having mixed feelings having overheard some ugly rumours from a farmer...

Always4Brenner · 21/11/2022 18:18

Last year I simply didn’t care the thought of another grumpy Christmas was just urgh, I feel your pain so grateful I’m the opposite this year even though I’m on my own.

Caramac555 · 21/11/2022 18:33

I've just lowered my expectations. If dinner is nice, nobody argues, nobody is very unwell, something half decent is on TV and everyone has a couple of presents they like I chalk it up as a success. And I have a couple of drinks to celebrate.

Same here, hopefully all goes well whatever Christmas brings 🎄

I'm starting at the weekend. It's a bit like 'another 10 minutes in bed and then I will get up'. I guess that means I'm not so excited about it.

Comedycook · 21/11/2022 20:32

Me! Barely got any presents yet. Can't be bothered with the tree. Just not feeling it this year

Oujiawoowoo · 21/11/2022 20:38

Me. I keep going into the garage and just staring at the boxes of decorations and then sighing and walking out again 😂

I just hate the extra work - extra cooking, cleaning, shopping, having to buy shedloads more food coz adult ds’s will come home from uni - getting disturbed at night by adult/teen dc’s going out and coming back in the early hours, extra cooking, wrapping loads of bits of shite that no one needs and will then get shoved in a corner of their bedroom…did I mention the extra cooking (I hate cooking if you didn’t guess) it goes on!

I do love a good moan about Christmas!

VeronicaFranklin · 21/11/2022 20:39

It's my first Christmas as a mummy and DD will be 6 months old. So I'm excited for that, to start traditions with her and experience my first Christmas Eve with the magic of having a little one (even though she'll have no idea this year!)

I'm not looking forward to the pressure Christmas brings to be socially polite to family members who are assholes all year!

I'm quite excited that having a baby means I have an excuse for me and DH to come home early, put Pjs and the fire on, Baileys and Cheeseboard and watch rubbish on TV like re-runs of Only Fools and Horses.

In general Christmas has become quite tiring and over commercialised since it's thrown down your throat from August onwards...I prefer the excitement of Christmas Eve to actual Christmas Day which is usually a bit stressful and underwhelming in our family.

SkinnyFatte · 21/11/2022 20:45

I've usually bought most of my presents by now but this year I am even more not bothered than usual. I take part in this carry-on for my DD. I'm not religious and find it all a bit meh. If I had my way (not possible right now) I'd have a duvet day watching terrible Netflix films and eating crisps.

WeirdPookah · 22/11/2022 12:38

@VeronicaFranklin have fun, my youngest was just turning 6 months before Christmas, a week into baby-led weaning and she'd had two christmas dinners and a buffet and been to a resturant!

I think the strange warm weather wasn't making it feel seasonable.

bloodywhitecat · 22/11/2022 12:41

Me. Last Christmas was awful as we knew it was our last together, DH was at home, confined to a hospital bed by a stroke with his tumours growing. There was so much pressure to "make memories" but the whole day was just sad. This Christmas he's no longer here and I am hoping I can do it better but my heart's not in it.

BCBird · 12/11/2023 17:20

Me too. Not a good time of tear for me. Can't decide whether to cook myself something nice or not to be bothered. We will see. May the force be with u🙄

Howmanysleepsnow · 13/11/2023 00:20

I wasn’t. I’m short of money and have been putting it off, but on Thursday I took the plunge and started Xmas shopping (small bits first!) and now I’m feeling full-on Christmassy!

Nutsabouttopic · 13/11/2023 00:47

Normally I have everything bought and wrapped by now. I usually love sourcing gifts and put a lot of thought into everyone's gifts. This year I'm just blaagh. No interest. Couldn't care less. As usual I will have my DH DC and DM here. They all get involved so it's not as if I'm left with a big load to carry. I just can't get the interest this year. I ordered a few things online today but couldn't care whether it's what they would like.

LaurieStrode · 13/11/2023 01:32

Why not just tone it down & have a cosy, non-consumerist, non-gluttonous Christmas?

Nonplusultra · 13/11/2023 05:16

It’s very hard when you’re not feeling it. Last year was a tough one for me because I was grieving, and while it’s not as raw this year, I think I’m pushing a lot of feelings down.

@Caramac555 nobody arguing and nobody being unwell sounds like untenably high expectations to me! But I appreciate your point.

I find this time of year so busy that it’s hard to fit in all the extra work of Christmas, especially if you’re not powered up by the “magic”. It’s DH’s busiest time at work, the dc have house exams to study for, and it’s the season of colds and flus. The schools are looking for their voluntary contributions.

I’m learning to do less and less, but there’s still an awful lot.

Aixellency · 13/11/2023 06:34

Ha, @BCBird - so it was you who resurrected a more than a year old thread!

I’ve had to start the gift buying comparatively early this year, as various contingencies mean I’m not actually sure where I’ll be come the start of December. Christmas cake fruit is soaking and orders are being delivered. Hoping I’ll have everything wrapped by Stir Up Sunday.

Don’t know about excited … Mostly thanking God for the imminent arrival of Dr Who to drown out the clamour of terror over world situations and our astonishingly cruel and incompetent government.

TeenDivided · 13/11/2023 06:49

I think in general it is far too early to be 'excited' for Christmas, there are still 6 weeks to go. I don't tend to feel Christmassy until around the 15th of December.

FutureUncertain · 13/11/2023 06:57

So sorry @bloodywhitecat Flowers this is our last Christmas with DH, I too am now feeling the pressure to ‘make memories’ but am unbelievably sad, and numb with disbelief.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 13/11/2023 06:59

I don’t like Christmas, I have all the expense yet haven’t had a single present for several years 😵‍💫
This year I’m giving a donation to a homeless charity, bugger buying anything and Christmas can sod off (I’m agnostic anyway)

AlphaB3tty · 13/11/2023 07:03

It's all started too early.

Aixellency · 13/11/2023 07:09

That sounds all sorts of wrong, @JenniferJupiterVenusandMars … How have you found yourself in such an unrewarding position?
