So unprepared and not ready for all the Christmas present buying malarkey this year.

I just have no energy or time to get my self into gear!

Anyone else not made a start?
Normally so prepared and shop in advance .....this year I'm so not bothered!

Need to try and get into the festive mood 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Every year (since it became my responsibility to organise it) I'm more like a rabbit in the headlights about Christmas. It's just a huge emotionally charged logistical challenge for me..
I may feel a bit Christmassy for a moment mid December when I put the tree up.

Freshair1 · 13/11/2023 07:17

Christmas is December 25th, which is no different to December the 16th, or March 9th or any other day in the calendar. It is what you allow it to be. I can't muster the energy to indulge it anymore. It's a roast, with family. Gifts are optional. It's that straightforward. Stop buying into the ridiculous expectations and images of SM Christmas.

That sounds all sorts of wrong, @JenniferJupiterVenusandMars … How have you found yourself in such an unrewarding position?

I’m a mug basically, a people pleaser and ruled by FOG while my parents were alive (they died 3 years ago) so 67 years of trying to please everyone. I sound self pitying but I’m not!
I have a big birthday in a month, I’m going to treat myself to something special, not sure what, and stop expecting anything else (my DCs don’t send cards let alone give presents, my husband is little better!)
I might even take myself away to a nice hotel after Christmas for a few nights?

Shewhobecamethesun · 13/11/2023 07:26

First Christmas post separation and first that I won't be waking up with dc (I get them for the afternoon). I'm trying to look at the positives but I also know that it's going to be so hard as well

CesareBorgia · 13/11/2023 07:27

Not very. If I could fast-forward to February, when it really starts getting lighter, I would.

Aixellency · 13/11/2023 07:40

I’m taking myself away to a nice hotel over Christmas for a few nights.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously, your family needs a jolt. Start your birthday celebrations today by making plans to spend Christmas away from them.

If you absolutely cannot bring yourself to do that, surely you can at least tell them that you’re sick of being taken for granted and things need to change. Remember they’re not going to voluntarily make life better for you - you need to make a fuss.

Wolvesart · 13/11/2023 07:44

I have a craft fair coming up so I concentrate mostly on that until it’s done. DC is sixth former so presents don’t sell out and there’s no need to think about them until Black Friday.

Re terminology: I will be ‘excited about’ not ‘excited for’ Christmas as I feel that’s an Americanism too far for me

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/11/2023 08:35

I won’t start feeling at all Christmassy until around 1st December, when I make the first mince pies (usually with trad carols on YouTube) and put a little potted Christmas tree with lights outside the front door. 🎄
Very likely a glass of mulled wine, too.

Pumpkintastic · 13/11/2023 09:19

It's still No ember op, plenty of time to start feeling festive ( and I say this as someone who has finished Christmas shopping)

Underparmummy · 13/11/2023 10:12

Have started to get organised and plan. Need to more careful with the budget this year.
Have planned some days out so I can get excited as normally they are my favourite bits.
Trying to avoid the awkward conversations with my family as DH won't go near them this year so awful family drama from this year rather colouring 'excitement' somewhat!

JuliaGoolias · 13/11/2023 10:15

Last year I got excited too early and was fed up by mid-December. This year, I am not going to think about it at all until Decemeber.

Soccermumamir · 13/11/2023 11:30

I've seen people putting their tree up this weekend, and I'm still in Halloween mode lol I love Halloween, I can take or leave christmas though.

SnowflakeSparkles · 13/11/2023 11:33

I'm not feeling it either Sad

Usually absolutely love Christmas, start planning really early and have loads of big lists planning everything out. Haven't done that this year.

Doesn't help that my budget is much less than usual this year as I had to spend my savings. Absolutely sucks and will ensure the same doesn't happen again this year.

It's important to me that it is magical for the kids though, so I'm forcing the Christmas hat on my head now and starting to make preparations.

Solidarity for everyone, we'll get there Flowers

SpiderJohn · 13/11/2023 11:41

Yes. Mr SpiderJohn. He's the biggest scrooge in the world and sucks at least 50% out of the joy of Christmas every year. I'm excited for Christmas - DS will be 4 so he can remember last Christmas and is looking forward to it - but I'm dreading all the eye-rolling and sighing and complaining from DH.

Sugarfree23 · 13/11/2023 12:25

@bloodywhitecat @FutureUncertain hugs to you both. Wishing you both a peaceful Christmas

Sugarfree23 · 13/11/2023 12:28

Me I'm looking forward to Christmas morning, and the chilled out family time. Dread the whole nonsense of trying to come up with ideas etc.
