What surprised you and brought them some joy? Brazenly asking for my own kids!
They are 7 months 3 and six

I get a few bits second hand and then new bits but we don't go wild

Just looking for some ideas really thank you

At those ages... fake snow.

stopbeeping · 20/11/2022 13:58

And such a mess!!!

No mess, they played with it on a tray (with their Frozen dolls!)

When my son was 3, his most memorable gift was his own scissors and ball of string. He was over the moon with it

Moon sand and slime... but I'm not recommending it as it ruined the carpet and is an absolute bugger to Hoover up 🤣 they did love it though

FleasAndKeef · 20/11/2022 14:14

Money box from flying tiger with a little hand that pops out to drag the pennies inside when you put a coin in the slot! Not sure if they still sell it, but flying tiger in general does some great stuff

My granddaughter's was a frozen mini key ring hand gel . She's 4 and absolutely loved it and still talks about it now 😁

Icannever · 20/11/2022 14:38

I made mine first aid kits with actual bandages and syringes, a working stethoscope and blood pressure monitor. Bought all the stuff from eBay and used out of date bandage/plasters from work. Cost about the same as a toy first aid kit but lots more fun 😊

This little hamster thing that is often 50% off on amazon. It runs round the room and cracks my 3 year old up.

purser25 · 20/11/2022 15:00

Why not do a “mending” mending kit. Masking tape sellotape scissors string etc.

user1019273703 · 20/11/2022 15:03

A terrys chocolate orange!!

Flowermarket · 20/11/2022 15:07

A ream of plain A4 paper. Went down an absolute storm with a 3 & 1 year old

I’m an infant teacher. A Y1 child had his birthday. I asked him what was his favourite present. “Daddy got me a whole pack of blue tac.” When I mentioned it to his parents, it turned out that Daddy had put up a birthday banner with blue tack, and he’d stripped off the blue tac Grin.

Thing is, all his friends were jealous of the blue tac. So I’d recommend blue tac for your 6 year old.

Mine was a roll of bubble wrap which ExH got from work. He was delighted as i carpeted the lounge with it (as was I!) did the same thing at his third birthday party in a sports hall and all the children loved it.

PiddleOfPuppies · 20/11/2022 15:27

My DS was delighted with a windup torch when he was about 4. He loved sitting under the stairs and playing with his cars by torchlight. (He's a lighting engineer now he's a grown up, so we do remind him of this!)

Bluetack has always been a huge winner in stockings.

DelurkingAJ · 20/11/2022 15:32

Plain envelopes were the hit of last Xmas for DS2 (then 5).

Do you have a link to this please?

Not last year but when my son was younger a tub of fake snowballs! You can get them in homebargains.
