Over 30 years ago my aunt. (Who died a couple of years later age 42) bought me and my siblings a child size porcelain mug. They each had a cartoon drawing on the front and a small corresponding teddy inside. So mine said "I'm a little Angel" and had an Angel doll. The other two said Vampire and Monkey. They all fit our personalities too. I was very quiet.

My dd's would definitely not appreciate them as much as I did however I've looked and cannot see anything similar. I'd love to see a photo of one again.

What's your story?

My Caran D'ache pencils. I loved to draw and paint and was so pleased with these, as they acted as water colours and pencils. They've always been an expensive buy and these were for my 11th birthday. I still have the tin / with replacement pencils and am now 60!

I loved it but also loved my Etch-A-Sketch and Spirograph!

A Penny-Puppy-Walker doll (who funnily enough came with her own little dog). As an adult I have two real dogs of my own now, lol, but I loved PPW first!

A white stereo with an LP player - I loved it!!

A few stand out...

The My Little Pony Dream Castle - just because that Christmas when I was about 5 it was the only thing I wanted and I hoped beyond all hope I would get it! So to open it in Christmas morning was very special!

The others were surprises that I loved.

A beautiful panda rug - it was so soft and he had a smart red bow tie on him too. I loved that rug and had him in my bedroom for years and years and used to love lying on it. Now I come to think of it I have no idea what happened to it. My DD is panda-mad...she would love that rug too!

A Royal Dalton Snowman mug - I loved anything to do with the Snowman and to me this mug was just beautiful. Pale blue with a snowy sky and the Snowman and the boy flying! Every time I had a hot chocolate (which was the only hot drink I drank as a kid) it HAD to be in that mug!

@Chaiandchocolate I had that treehouse. Apparently I was desperate for it. Asked Father Christmas for it at a visit all over excited and everything.
I have no memory of that or actually getting the treehouse. But I remember playing with it for years.

EcoCustard · 08/11/2022 20:06

Sylvanian family pony and trap set, I was so happy played with it for years. I also loved a stack of books.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 08/11/2022 20:06

Gosh this thread has really got me reminiscing of childhood Christmases! I remember from the age of about 12 I started collecting these little dragon ornaments called the Whimsical World of Pocket Dragons and I absolutely adored them. My collection was my pride and joy. And every birthday and Christmas the main thing I wanted was a new ornament for my collection! Some of the little ones weren't that expensive - about £8 maybe - but they ranged up to about £100 and one year I got one of the really expensive ones so that was amazing. But every single one of them was treasured!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 08/11/2022 20:09

A baby buggy. I put my bear in it in the garden and a drunk family friend decided to step on it. The wheel broke but the bastard didn't buy me a new one 😡all the respect I had for him was lost after that. Still don't like him and keep my distance. Any decent adult would replace or fix it. He was in his 20's at this point.

YukoandHiro · 08/11/2022 20:14

A Lego pirate ship. I was about 8 I think. My grandad helped me make it on Xmas day. It had a little shark with a mouth that snapped shut.

Sixmonthson · 08/11/2022 20:27

When I was 5 or 6 I really yearned for a sparkly diamond ring. I still remember it as the best present ever - it couldn’t have cost more than a pound or two from the market but I loved it so much! I now have a real one (engagement ring) but I honestly think I was just as excited to receive the original one. Just shows it’s not always about the money ……

Stoic123 · 08/11/2022 20:53

A yellow sony walkman and roller boots

Tisfortired · 08/11/2022 20:55

A barbie jeep, and racing it around
my grandparents dining room on Christmas Day whilst the grown ups were having a few drinks in the lounge, I must have been about 5. I was so chuffed with it.

70s child here. I remember so clearly a conversation with my dear Mum about a doll I wanted for Christmas. One was Tiny Tears and the other was called Rub-a-Dub, which was a doll you could put in the bath. I remember her saying I could choose one and I went for the latter. Best present ever!

Also, a coffee machine which an ex bought me 5 years ago and I still use it now. It was a short relationship that brought me a lot of happiness at the time - good coffee plus good memories 😊

Another 70s child here. I wanted a Tiny tears and got a Rub a Dub doll. Can't still remember the smell of it.
I was another who desperately wanted a Mr Frosty and was perpetually disappointed!
Best toy EVER was the Fisher Price tree house.

Hocuspocus99 · 08/11/2022 21:14

Katie Kopycat ( yes that’s how it was spelt ) and a petite typewriter , also a tiny cooker with 2 pans which I loved !
what a nice thread this is !

bloodyeffinnora · 08/11/2022 21:51

mine was katie kopycat too and also tippy tumbles, loved those dolls

Rocketpants50 · 08/11/2022 21:58

A few things stick in my mind.

Homepride kitchen scales, it had little men as the weights, then another man - the head was a bowl and hat was sieve.

A Cindy greenhouse.

Grandparents always got me a lovely book.

I wonder what my children will remember...

AppleandSpice · 08/11/2022 22:01

I don’t know where to start, there’s quite a few of them. We didn’t get much throughout the year so Christmas presents were treasured.

I remember desperately wanting a my little pony. There was a girl at school who had several and she’d bring a different one in each time.
I used to stare longingly at them on the shelf at Woolworths knowing not to ask for one as my parents just didn’t have the money. I gave up all hope.

The feeling I got when I got the MLP grooming parlour play set was one that I’ll never forget. I loved Peachy pony with all of my being and took her everywhere with me!

bloodyeffinnora · 08/11/2022 22:09

i also remember getting a doll called chuckles, you shook her and she laughed.

snugglyblanket · 08/11/2022 23:48

My A la carte kitchen, absolutely loved it & couldn't have been very old, it came out when I was about 1. No idea why it went, if it broke or whatever but I do remember missing it badly and wishing for a new one every time I pulled a wishbone or found a loose eyelash or something to wish on lol Think it went on my Christmas wish list for years.

Also adored my MLP castle & nursery, wish I'd kept those to pass on to my dd. The newer versions were nowhere near as good.

I had the rooster alarm clock from one of those photos, I can still remember the sound, surprised my parents didn't lose that thing!

A few years back my DH bought me a Yellow Teapot as a present. It was so lovely playing with it with my own DCs. I bought him a Mr Frosty because it was the thing that he always wanted but didn't get.

ChakaKhanfan · 09/11/2022 06:33

I had the millennium falcon (and my mom still has it) I think I was probably about 9. My parents didn’t have a lot of money so it was a joint present for me and my brother. I loved it. They had the secret compartment where they all hide when the storm troopers come on board, and there was a little Han Solo and chewie.

my children play with it when they go to their grandparents house now ☺️

I had a similar incident, I had just got a brand new space hopper (litrally JUST got it) and my uncle snatched it off me and started playing with his dog with it.

I was screaming and crying for him to stop because it would pop and he kept say 'don't be silly' and wouldnt give it back (litrally lawded his size over me) and as ANY person could predict it popped.

He just went 'oh well' and walked off while I cried, he never replaced it and honestly I have never looked at him the same again, I use to love him before that as he had been the 'cool' uncle but he just seemed to turn nasty out of nowhere.

Now I just seem him as the judgemental grumpy old man whose all alone that he is.

Imissmoominmama · 09/11/2022 10:26

My dad made me a pair of stilts. He painted them red. I loved them.
