Over 30 years ago my aunt. (Who died a couple of years later age 42) bought me and my siblings a child size porcelain mug. They each had a cartoon drawing on the front and a small corresponding teddy inside. So mine said "I'm a little Angel" and had an Angel doll. The other two said Vampire and Monkey. They all fit our personalities too. I was very quiet.

My dd's would definitely not appreciate them as much as I did however I've looked and cannot see anything similar. I'd love to see a photo of one again.

What's your story?

My baby doll I got when I was 8 or 9. My 2 friends in the street got theirs the same Christmas. One friends was actually the same doll but her's was in a pink outfit, mine blue.
My doll was called Samantha.
We all got toy pushchairs too and I remember us meeting outside on Christmas or Boxing Day to walk our babies around the street.

@ahunf I used to work in Woolworths and we sold those bubble baths. They were a pain in the arse because they always leaked over the shelves because people opened them to have a smell. If I remember they didn't smell particularly interesting.

I don't remember the smell. To be honest I think I kept it in my bedroom for a while then threw it lol.

70s child here. I remember so clearly a conversation with my dear Mum about a doll I wanted for Christmas. One was Tiny Tears and the other was called Rub-a-Dub, which was a doll you could put in the bath. I remember her saying I could choose one and I went for the latter. Best present ever!

Also, a coffee machine which an ex bought me 5 years ago and I still use it now. It was a short relationship that brought me a lot of happiness at the time - good coffee plus good memories 😊

A nightie and dressing gown when I was about 8 so 1974. The nightie was pink and flowery, long with crocheted, cotton type lace on the sleeves and across the bodice, the dressing gown was pink quilted. My sister had the same but in blue. I felt like a princess.

SaintVal · 08/11/2022 10:46

Sorry, coffee machine irrelevant - I got carried away with my reminiscing 🙈

Used to walk to primary school past the newsagents - one year (I was probably 7) there was this doll in the window - I absolutely loved her, called her Sandra and used to talk to her twice a day. I would've done anything to have her. One morning the week before Christmas, Sandra had gone - I was absolutely gutted.

Christmas morning.......Sandra appeared on top of my stocking! I loved that doll for years.

I've been Googling.

Most memorable was a My Pal Robot 2 which I asked for many years before they gave in and got it for me. Hardly touched it but the joy of getting it was immense.

I remember most the one thing I asked for for around 5 years was a pogo stick that my parents refused every single year.

Teo dolls from two different Christmases. One was a doll in costume from the Sound of Music, and another was a doll that my Godmother handmade lots of clothes for. I immediately cut off all her hair and washed it making it a right rats nest!
The present I really really wanted but didn't get was a stuffed animal fox. I'm sure it was because my parents simply couldn't afford to buy it. I remember it to this day though (must have been about 6 or 7, I'm 60 now)!

A large cardboard box brimming with art supplies, from an uncle. Like a treasure chest. Still have the accompanying craft how-to book 50 years later.

PeeJayDay · 08/11/2022 10:52

A hamster. God rest his little Syrian soul 🐹

Danikm151 · 08/11/2022 10:52

A furby baby…. That I still have 🤣
a sky dancer too

GOODCAT · 08/11/2022 10:53

A tin opener when I was about six. I couldn't use the one my parents had so every morning I had to wake them up to open a tin of cat food so I could feed the cats. Getting a tin opener I could use was win, win for all of us, but especially the cats!

Not christmas or technically a child, but an ex partner of an uncle sent me £18 for my 18th.

I’d always liked her- met her a couple of times a year and was sad when she split from uncle and we saw less of her.

i just thought it was a lovely thing. She didn’t have to, I wasn’t expecting anything so it was out of the blue.

most of my “remembered” presents have been things like that. Just little gifts that showed people thought about me when I wouldn’t expect them to.

ahunf · 08/11/2022 11:01

Any photos??

I'm going to have to stop googling lol.

Not very good quality as I screen shot them...

A red haired Sindy on roller skates - the outfit the blonde doll is wearing in the picture below, but the red haired doll. It was exactly what I wanted, and I named her Nancy.

Bauer skates with 3 tone sim wheels. I absolutely loved them and skated everywhere as a kid in the 90s

Three books in one - The Five Children and It, The phoenix and the Carpet and The Story of the Amulet. It arrived in my stocking and I can still recreate the feeling of reading it at five in the morning, eating sweets and knowing it was Christmas day. I loved those books!

Needmorelego · 08/11/2022 11:06

@ahunf that's my Care Bear in the picture. Cheer Bear. Not so pink anymore. Kinda pinky-grey now. My mum knitted Cheer Bear a jumper. Not sure why. Probably using up left over wool.

borderterrierr · 08/11/2022 11:07

Sky dancers. That twatted you in the face and then got tangled in your hair but they were so cool!
