Any good ideas? Would like one for my daughter and son in law and have done the usual foodie ones.

Is it a joint calendar that you're looking for?

Duckskitbank · 04/11/2022 20:27

Sous Chef have a good selection. I can vouch for the marzipan one and Lakrids liquorice. I have a referral code if you want a discount.

lipstickwoman · 04/11/2022 20:41

@Someaddedsugar ideally yes

@Duckskitbank thank you but I'm trying to avoid food ones. The marzipan one sounds delicious!

Sorry I misread that. It's been a long week!

NuffSaidSam · 04/11/2022 20:46

Socks? Tea? Beer? Gin? Body shop? Lego? One from a show/film they like (Harry Potter etc)?

Someaddedsugar · 04/11/2022 20:46

A tea, coffee or hot chocolate one? I'm sure I've seen Whittards recommended on here.

An advent calendar candle - more for the home - you can get personalised ones on Not on the High Street.

A wine/gin/beer calendar depending on their preference - most supermarkets do these now.

Someaddedsugar · 04/11/2022 20:48

Do they hobbies @lipstickwoman?

lipstickwoman · 04/11/2022 20:52

@Someaddedsugar I'm running out of ideas.. they'd like puzzles, riddles, quiz type things (not even sure if they're possible) but both are a bit too fussy to try foodie ones

I had a jigsaw puzzle one a couple of times.

one was a Gibson one, with a small Christmas themed jigsaw each day, and the other was a photo one, with each day having a few pieces which overall made up a photo collage. Both were fun to do.

I have seen an escape room/puzzle one advertised, but haven’t tried it, so don’t know if it’s any good.

I’ve had this one before as well, and we all enjoyed playing the time of the day each day

RedSquirrelRoar · 04/11/2022 21:04

You can buy a “Mr Holmes” calendar on Amazon that features a mystery every day and the solution on the back.
The mysteries are often bonkers - either very easy or unsolvable - but that’s part of the charm!

IHaveBeenFallingFor30Minutes · 04/11/2022 21:08

Oooh you can get an Exit the game advent calendar. It's like a mini riddle/escape room a day. They are brilliant and I can highly recommend it!

MrsIronfoundersson · 04/11/2022 21:09

I'm getting an escape room one for my teens.

LilithImpala67 · 04/11/2022 21:16

I second the Exit advent calendars for puzzle solving, they are excellent and they have a few so can be a gift for a few years if they like the first one!

SmileyClare · 04/11/2022 21:27

Eek whatever you do don’t Google “Adult advent calendars” 😂 the ones I saw are not appropriate gifts from a mother in law.

You can buy “fill your own” advent calendars and put your own items inside to suit them? Puzzles, seeds, Christmas tree decorations, sweets, gum or whatever they’re into?

lipstickwoman · 04/11/2022 21:34

@SmileyClare I was careful even with this thread title 😂

Exit ones look really promising!

Don't get a jam one like I did last year. It put me off jam for ever! I still have three tiny pots of the stuff lurking in my cupboard.

I enjoyed the first few days but after that didn't get particularly excited about it. It made me realise that advent calendars really are for children!

Flumo · 04/11/2022 21:46

Love honey 😅

MsMiaWallace · 04/11/2022 21:51

Ordered Lovehoney

Hbh17 · 04/11/2022 22:02

Why would any adult want an Advent calendar? They are for very young children.

SmileyClare · 04/11/2022 23:21

Nothing wrong with embracing your inner child; it’s a bit of fun in quite gloomy times.

I couldn’t justify spending that much on an adult advent calendar so I’d love it if my mum/mil gifted me one and had put some thought into it.

Oh bore off and leave the Christmas boards then. I am 52 and love an advent calendar. Who says they are for very young children? Who?

Very young children? What's VERY? My 9 and 10 year old are having one. is that ok or is it only for the very young ones?

pinkksugarmouse · 10/11/2022 21:28

I don’t understand the thrill of them to be honest. All the openings and reviews I have seen show that they are very overpriced.
Each to their own I suppose but they seem like a con.
