Looking for recommendations for books to buy for DD7. We normally give the kids a stack at Christmas and whilst DS10 is easy to buy for, I'm out of ideas for DD7.

She likes:
Enid Blyton
Mr Penguin
Leonora Bolt
Rabbit & Bear
Roald Dahl (some)
Truth Pixie and others in that series
13 Storey Treehouse

She didn't like
Worst Witch
Narnia
How to Train Your Dragon

She's a sensitive soul and gets frightened easily (she cried in Encanto 😳) so prefers books on the silly side or where friends are having adventures etc.

Her reading level is pretty strong for her age and she likes chapter books rather than short books.

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

The Tom Gates books are great for that age.

Newuser82 · 30/10/2022 19:21

How about the land of stories series?

PuttingDownRoots · 30/10/2022 19:22

Atticus claw

MissMarpleMuses · 30/10/2022 19:24

Mr Majeika series, and also start of Jacqueline Wilson.

Yes I should have said, we've got all those as well as DS was a massive fan.

My son is 5 and doesn't read yet but I've read a lot on the list you mentioned to him, some others he enjoyed-

Has she read the Enchanted Wood series?
The Boy who Grew Dragons series is silly and good.
The new Jacqueline Wilson book about the fairy sounds wonderful, too. That's on our list.
J K Rowling The Christmas Pig.
Michael Rosen box set of silly stories from The Works for about £10- 6 or 7 lovely daft stories in there.

Pip Bird’s Naughtiest Unicorn series are a hit here- little bit of glitter, lots farting, some really mild peril. My very sensitive 6 year old loves them- and she cried through encanto, turned off Mulan, and hid from Paddington…

countrypunk · 30/10/2022 19:51

I loved the My Best Fiend series by Sheila Lavelle and the Flossie Teacake books by Hunter Davies when I was around that age. The Flossie Teacake books especially are brilliant!

countrypunk · 30/10/2022 19:52

Oh and The Wicked Tricks of Till Owlyglass by Michael Rosen is another gem.

cumbriaumbria · 30/10/2022 19:55

mine is similar - loves funny books, has read all the 13storey treehouse series, Claude, rabbit and bear, some Enid blyton etc and she’s just read the mr gum series which she loved. I read them with her sometimes and also enjoyed them. She read one Tom Gates but wasn’t grabbed. We are getting her Kay’s Anatomy (non fiction) for Christmas, not sure which fiction books yet. She isn’t interested in her sisters’ super fudge series yet but her sister read them at 6/7 and loved them; also q funny.

Frazzled2207 · 30/10/2022 20:22

I have boys but my 7 yo is currently obsessed with Tom Gates
at that age my other son loved the Treehouse books too

SparklyAntlers · 30/10/2022 20:24

My 6 year old loves the Isadora Moon books and the spin-off series Mirabelle.

minipie · 30/10/2022 20:27

Tom Gates here too, and DD loves Malory Towers slightly to my surprise. Mr Gum too.

Voiceofreason92 · 30/10/2022 20:33

Have you read the Daisy books (Daisy and the trouble with... (enter a whole host of options- chocolate, unicorns, sports days, zoos) they are fairly entertaining to read- and there's loads of them. Perfect for 7 year old girls.

Dirty Bertie is also successful in our house (kids are 6 and 8)

Thanks all, some great suggestions here.

Ramona Quimby, Ivy and Bean, Dotty Detective. There are graphic novels of Secret Garden and Anne of Green Gables ehich are nice gifts if she is OK with things a bit old fashioned.
Mine likes similar books and lives the my naughty little sister series but they might be too dated.

MrsCrankypants · 30/10/2022 21:27

My 7 year old loves the Rainbow Magic series, you can get nice box sets of these as well as the single ones

MightyOaks · 30/10/2022 21:43

Horrid Henry

TrixyTed · 30/10/2022 22:05

My daughter loved the Zoe's Rescue Zoo series.

Snuzzle · 30/10/2022 22:07

My DD loved Dotty Detective and Isadora Moon

Rosegeranium · 30/10/2022 22:31

My v sensitive 7 nearly 8 year old (also did not like marina or worst witch because…witches) loved Isadora moon last year . Most recently has enjoyed Rainbow Grey. Also Kate on the Case.

WeirdPookah · 31/10/2022 11:39

Toto The Ninja Cat is enjoyed by my daughter

And the Hilda novels by Stephen Davies, based on the really excellent Netflix series (which was based on graphic novels! they are great too).
