Three teenage daughters three Tiffany necklaces

They are late teens early 20s one has actually requested their return to Tiffany necklace. I’ll be honest the other two haven’t but I thought it would be a nice keepsake for the eldest who’s travelling next year and the little one doesn’t have very much nice in her life.

I just get fed up of flicking them hundred here, a 100 there for birthdays and literally they never seem to have anything to show for what they’ve spent it on. I actually gave them 200 quid each to go and get summer clothes and they didn’t which is vanished.

is this a nice idea ?

Would they look after them?

I love my Tiffany items, I’ve had some of them for 20 years and my DD is eyeing them up now!

Spending £400 + on two necklaces two of your daughters hasnt shown any interest in seems daft and likely to live in the back of a drawer if its not their style.

Tell them you want to buy them a physical present that they want instead of giving money. I hate giving money or gift cards and prefer to give a gift the recipient will use.

I wouldn’t want my daughter wearing expensive jewellery while travelling, tbh (assuming backpacking type travelling, rather than first class with Emirates 😁)

I mean it can be insured but I take your point knowing my daughter though it won’t be in a hostel in a backpackers, she’s going to teach in China as a lecturer. She’s converted to Judaism and they do a lovely silver star of David I thought she might like. The other two are literally like twins that 12 months apart and whilst the little one hasn’t kind of expressed an actual interest in it I do think if one likes it the other one might.

Quite honestly, if I got a Christmas present that my sister had asked for instead of something I wanted, I'd be pissed off. Is it something the other two actually want?

I had something similar - my stepsister got married a few years before me and asked for a specific item as a wedding gift. When I got married, my dad and step-mum gave us the exact same gift because it was fair, even though it wasn't something I would ever want. It's been in my loft ever since. I felt like I wasn't seen as an individual, and it felt like a waste of money.

I think ask the other two what they want!

For traveling I would opt for st Christopher in silver from a high street store. There's lots of amazing local designers at 1/4 price of Tiffany

Lovely idea but how about something similar yet special to each one- ie the Star of David sounds perfect. Perhaps the other one would prefer earrings or a bracelet?

I have had a few bits from Tiffany over the years, the first when I was 19 from my mum. I wear it all but it is expensive now. I think it is a lovely and special gift but I would certainly check that all your dd would like one.

They're a few hundred pounds, it's not like they'd be walking around with a good Rolex.

The Star of David Tiffany pendant is really pretty, I know someone who wears one all the time. At least I'm assuming it's the Tiffany one, I haven't actually asked her.

I got mine for my 25th and I’m now in my 30s and basically never take it off. However, I know some people think they’re a bit tacky now so I wouldn’t spend all that money unless they really wanted one.

Get something they will like as an individual

I think a classic necklace chosen for each one would be lovely. My DD has gone to uni this year so I'm thinking in terms of a couple of "big" gifts instead of loads of smaller ones and a necklace is on the list.

Serious question: how can you tell they're Tiffany?

I’m going against the grain here. I have 3 DDs, although they are not old enough for expensive jewellery I have thought about doing something like this in the future. I don’t think it’s not treating them as individuals, your buying them a nice piece of jewellery each because they are your DDs, they are sisters and you want to give them all something special from you. They don’t have to me exactly the same. As you say, Star of David for one and something your other DDs would like, birth stones, favourite animals etc… They don’t even need to be the same jewellery, one could be necklace, other bracelet etc…

I have a friend who makes personalised jewellery, she made me a necklace with all 3 of my DDs fingerprints, I love it. When they are older I want to get them each something similar, I haven’t decided if I get the one with their prints with sisters written on the back or with mine and DHs prints.

Meh. My dh bought me one of the Elsa Peretti open heart pendants (the one with 2 hearts). It’s lovely, but I rarely wear it and, does it look any better than an imitation? No. Was it worth the price? Also no.
