Wrap as you go along or do it in big batches or on Christmas Eve?

I like to wrap once the decorations are up, and preferably the tree, so after the 12th December. I like to get the presents out and look at them regularly and consider if I'm done or if I want to buy some more. I like wrapping and love looking at all the nicely wrapped presents once they are done. I'm autistic and don't like opening presents but love giving to others and seeing them unwrap them.

What paper are you using this year? I've yet to buy any.

Oh god, no 😬

I wrap as I go.

Ds1 has brown paper with an Xmas tree stamp decoration on it.

Ds2 has recyclable paper in a lovely deep teal colour with nutcracker soldier design.

I went to ikea earlier and they hsve lots of lovely paper and little bags.

Dh gets whatever left 😃

Christmas Eve for our immediate family. Open a bottle of champagne, put Christmas music on, light a festive candle and wrap the presents. It’s heavenly.
Ones for wider family have to be posted or exchanged in advance so I’m a bit more practical/ less festive with those.
I’m toying with the idea of buying festive furoshiki to reuse each year but I haven’t decided yet.

In batches, usually for one family or family member at a time. For example I would wrap all my sons presents on one day, my husbands on another day. Then presents for my siblings and their kids another day.
I also wait until the tree is up but we tend to have ours up the first weekend in December so I have plenty of time.

Floralnomad · 21/10/2022 13:26

My husband does our wrapping , he generally does two or three sittings but doesn’t start until at least mid December .

KnottyKnitting · 21/10/2022 13:27

We made the mistake of wrapping on Christmas Eve once when my DDs were small. We were at it for hours after they had gone to bed and it really spoilt Christmas Eve. Always just wrap as I go now.

MangoBiscuit · 21/10/2022 13:28

Big batches on the 23rd and 24th, with a brief repair session on the 24th. If I did them early, one of our cats would destroy them. If I hide them away, I forget where.

OrangePomander · 21/10/2022 13:29

All in one go, or more realistically several large wrapping sessions just before Christmas Day. I think its’s easier to store unwrapped presents, especially if they are odd shapes.

I’m not planning on buying any new paper this year, we’ve got lots left over to use up.

RoseMartha · 21/10/2022 13:38

I wrap as I go. The sooner the better then I know it is done.

CrazyBaubles · 21/10/2022 13:59

I don't have that many to wrap nowadays but I do it in one big sitting when the decs are up.
I have a little tradition of being home alone, watching Christmas films at a little wrapping station (dining table or ironing board) and working my way through. I really enjoy wrapping presents though.

I use a mix of brown paper with ribbons, brown paper that I decorate with stamps and some recyclable patterned paper.
I like it if the presents don't match, not sure why but I think it looks nicer (but I also like coloured lights and lots of decorations so maybe tasteful isn't for me)! Xmas Grin

I wrap as I go.
A couple years ago I tried wrapping everything in one go and it was awful, I love wrapping but doing int for several hours is just awful.

grayhairdontcare · 21/10/2022 14:41

Wrap as I go and mine is all done for this year

TommyShelby · 21/10/2022 14:51

I wrap in sections. Once I have one person or family’s presents together, I’ll wrap them all and bag them up ready. My back can’t take the mammoth wrapping session any more! 😂

NCAutumn · 21/10/2022 14:52

I've wrapped them!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/10/2022 14:53

One year I wrapped the DC presents on the kitchen floor while my parents kept DS and DD out of the kitchen ! Never again, I'm now firmly a believer in early wrapping .

I used to set up the ironing board as a wrapping table and use a different paper for DS and DD (Costco used to have great quality rolls with the grid markings on the back)

DC are adults now so smaller gifts , I do a Dec 1st Box for each one , and usually an Advent Calendar for DD. (Not this year though , I;m going to put her beauty gifts in the Dec 1st Box) . I can wrap in tissue paper , got loads left .

Same I did this last year as often hear people say it gets them in the Christmas spirit.
Well it didn't go to plan the kids were too excited so didn't get to sleep until late then I spent ages wrapping everything. I was completely fed up and ready for bed myself when I was only half way through. Definitely going to start my wrapping mid December this year.

PaisleyP · 21/10/2022 14:56

Try and do it in whatever I pull out the cupboard to wrap first. My Tree and decs will be up about the 19/20th of November so will start then. I enjoy it at first then I end up hating the sight of tape!
Not sure what paper I'll go for this year.

Sikaris · 21/10/2022 14:57

I tend to wrap a few weeks before. When I'm done really.

BooksAndHooks · 21/10/2022 15:00

Wrap as I go because I hate it. I’m behind this year as I haven’t got wrapping paper left to use. I like it done before decorations so I can relax. Then it’s just the kids stockings to wrap nearer the time.

mam0918 · 21/10/2022 15:00

Neither.

If I wrapped as I went I would forget where and what things are as I buy throughout the year.

I would NEVER wrap on xmas eve that would mean wrapping 40+ things in one go... screw that lol.

I wrap in batches of 5-10 at a time from when the tree goes up so things just slowly amass all throughout december under the tree.

PositiveLife · 21/10/2022 15:04

I wrap as I go so that if the kids find anything it's wrapped and they don't know what they are getting. I don't have enough space to hide unwrapped stuff really (most places are either in plain site or in cupboards the kids need to use occasionally)

ParentallyUnprepared · 21/10/2022 15:06

I wrap in batches with a Christmas film on as it destroys my back

AriettyHomily · 21/10/2022 15:41

I take the first two Fridays off in December and get it all done together with any last minute shopping when the kids are in school. Then I can drink gin on Christmas Eve and not wake up in a panic:)

foxlover47 · 21/10/2022 15:44

Oh my
Last year was the first year I've ever wrapped as I went along
And I couldn't believe how relaxing Xmas eve evening was ( every other year I was mad wrapping Xmas eve till early hours )
So def going to wrap as I go again this year :)

Cottoneyejoemama · 21/10/2022 15:46

I would love to wrap as I go but I always put it off and end up panic wrapping on Christmas Eve

OurChristmasMiracle · 21/10/2022 15:46

Buy throughout year and then get out all presents first weekend in December when I put the tree up and wrap them. Anyone I’ve not got for them gets bought and I can relax ahead of Xmas. All presents go under the tree
