What are you planning or usually have?

I'm thinking pastries washed down with Bucks Fizz.

We have a late main meal so breakfast is more of a brunch spread .

Scrambled eggs
Smoked salmon
Pigs in blankets
Rolls
Pastries
Pancakes
Fruit
Champagne
Orange juice
Nice coffee
We then go for a long dog walk .

Hopingforhomebirth · 10/10/2022 08:38

@hattie43 that sounds delightful

Bobbins2022 · 10/10/2022 08:39

DH grew up always having a bacon sandwich
I grew up always having pain au chocolats (the ones you bake yourself)

So we do both 😁

Mindymomo · 10/10/2022 08:40

We don’t do Christmas Day breakfast, as we have a big lunch and my 2 adult sons won’t be up till late am.

chineapplepunks · 10/10/2022 08:40

We were allowed to have chocolate for breakfast as long as it was followed by a piece of fruit. When I first spent christmas with DW's family I was horrified to find they have a full fry up at 10am and don't open presents until that's done!

AddieLoggins2 · 10/10/2022 08:43

We usually have pastries. I whack a load in the over asap after we've got up, take 5 mins to warm through and then I bring them in the lounge on a big plate, we eat them with a brew while the kids open their presents.

They are just there on the coffee table so when the kids are hungry they can grab one. Much better than trying to get excited children to eat breakfast!

I get loads so there are leftovers and if the children start to get hungry before Dinner is ready they can eat one of those.

Jackienory · 10/10/2022 08:43

Depends if I’m working that shift. Sometimes we get a bacon roll.

AlwaysLatte · 10/10/2022 08:44

We usually have scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and Buck's Fizz. Husband makes some bread. We don't eat a lot as we have a full Christmas lunch.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 10/10/2022 08:45

Panettone French toast with cherry compote

Ilovetocrochet · 10/10/2022 08:47

When I was a child, we always had a bacon sandwich and a glass of dads homemade wine! Now, I just have some fruit while I wait for my adult children to arrive so we can all drive to my sister who hosts dinner for us all. After a few glasses of Prosecco at her house we fill up on nuts and chocolates while opening presents.

Parmesam · 10/10/2022 08:47

We don't bother with anything fancy because by the time we've finished opening our presents it's getting on for 10am. A bit of toast or cereal, orchocolate from the snack table.

Smoked salmon with bagels and cream cheese.
Prosecco
😂

hellcatspangle · 10/10/2022 08:52

Same as you. I buy a selection of the jus roll cinnamon buns/pain au choc and bake them in the morning.

Squishedstormtrooper · 10/10/2022 08:53

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels and a bottle of champagne. Our little morning of peace before everyone arrives!

NCnotmyusualone · 10/10/2022 08:54

We have a brunch of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and some Buck’s Fizz. Must say though, I’m highly tempted to try @Fivemoreminutes1 idea though, sounds delicious. Never thought of using panettone for French bread, I usually make it into a bread and butter pudding.

sittingonacornflake · 10/10/2022 08:57

Some years we have onion bhajis, yoghurt and mint sauce and poppadoms for breakfast!

Summertimesunshineandfizz · 10/10/2022 09:02

Champagne cocktails and a variety of muffins (made in advance and frozen) eg cheese& bacon, cranberry & orange, apple & cinnamon, raspberry & white chocolate, triple chocolate.

BloodyHellKen · 10/10/2022 09:02

Blimey, reading some of these posts makes me feel like a proper light-weight.

If I had alcohol at breakfast time (or anytime apart from the evening tbh) I'd be in bed the rest of the day asleep😂

ElmtreeMama · 10/10/2022 09:02

Bacon rolls and bucks fizz here too!

inigomontoyahwillcox · 10/10/2022 09:05

Depends. At my parents we have/had bagels with charcuterie and cream cheese with a glass of Buck's Fizz, DH has a penchant for Eggs Benedict when we're home, which he makes as I can't poach an egg for toffee.

Looks like we'll have my parents and brother with us this year for the first time in years, DH wants to make a beef wellington from scratch so won't make him do the usual Eggs Benedict, so I'm planning a spread of charcuterie, seafood and fruit with breads and soft cheeses as a brunch at about 11 - dinner won't be until around 5.

Alanisthebestdog · 10/10/2022 09:09

We have a full breakfast (the only time in the year we do). We have our meal at around 5 so it keeps everyone full and soaks up any alcohol when we have friends round for drinks which we do lunchtime. It has to include hash browns for one of the (adult) children, eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, and fish fingers as DH and SIL both love them. But weird but it works for us!

Tashface · 10/10/2022 09:10

Always hot oven-baked croissants, butter and marmalade! That's what we had growing up in the 70s (with bucks fizz for the adults/older teens but I don't bother with that bit as I don't really drink alcohol).

@Fivemoreminutes1 that sounds delicious!

daffodilandtulip · 10/10/2022 09:11

Stockings in my bed whilst eating one of those big special share brioches - last year was a star from Aldi. Then downstairs for presents.

DC are mid teens and I've suggested different things like a fry up or something - but we have to do it like this forever, as it's how we've always done it (along with new pjs 1st Dec, the same Christmas Eve presents every year, the same Christmas Eve routines...) 🤣🙄

Blush21 · 10/10/2022 09:12

Pastries and Buck’s Fizz or j20 for the non drinkers, recent years found it hard to find fresh pastries near Christmas so we’ve started buying frozen Tesco pastries a few weeks before. Not sure why it started but it’s now a tradition

EerilyDevilled · 10/10/2022 09:42

Homemade cinnamon buns, we make them the night before, leave in a cold place to prove overnight and bake in the morning. Also croissants and pains au chocolat baked from frozen. Fresh juices, tea or coffee.
