6 year old girl that doesn’t want anything!

Presents for 6 year old girl that doesn’t want anything!!

My daughter (youngest of 5) is a tricky one to buy for. She doesn’t really play with many toys. Not sure what she gets up to really 😂 we don’t get tv with adverts here so they never get inspiration from that and there is no smyths toys to take a wander around either.

I really need some help. What are other 6 year olds getting??

things to consider….
it can’t be too massive as we are overseas for Christmas (needs to fit in a suit case and be less than 23kg!)

she can’t read

she’s the youngest of 5 so we already have a garage full of sylvanians, Lego etc that she has no interest in

she has no interest in barbies, lol etc

last year she had a yoto player which she loves but we have so many cards already.

experiences are no good as we live overseas

hit me with ideas please. The others are all so easy as they do a list but she never knows what to ask for

Thanks in advance

(Is there a reason she can’t read?)

bicycle?

Macmaccat · 04/10/2022 10:41

She hasn’t learnt to read yet as she doesn’t go to school til she’s 7 and even then it will not be in English so could be a while yet. I only mentioned that in case people suggested games etc that require lots of reading as they would be frustrating for her

a bike would be too big for the Suitcase plus we have and I’m the next size up too (hand me down from her sister )

Arty things? Lovely paint set, paper, pens, pastels etc. Maybe personalised pencils with her name on.

Equiphant · 04/10/2022 11:33

My 7 year old is getting

Secret lockable diary
3d pen? (Caveat - i have no idea if these are any good)
scuba mask
lightweight camping hammock
Marshmallow toasting forks
jigsaw
a spider catcher sucky thingy (she used grandma’s and covets it)
and enough books to sink the bismark. Any of those ideas close to something she might like?

Macmaccat · 04/10/2022 12:57

I like the idea of the the 3D pens! Do you have a link please.

I remember my DD, at that age, saying all she wanted for Christmas a chocolate lollipop. She mentioned it to everyone so got loads of them for Xmas.

In the end I went to the pound shop and filled a stocking with all sorts of shite. Pens, colouring books, slime, puzzles etc

'Not sure what she gets up to really'

thing is if you dont know what she likes how are we meant to know. She must have interests, is she arty or an animal lover or a story teller/actress or an adventerous tomboy etc...?

Macmaccat · 04/10/2022 15:44

She’s girly but not into dolls. She likes swimming and ballet and playing outside. She loves scissors and glue, anything fluffy and sparkly. I was really asking what others have bought or plan to buy their 6 year olds so I get some new ideas. I live on a small island where we have limited shops and no tv adverts so I just need a bit of inspiration :-)

When I ask her the only reply I get is lip balm! Our house is drowning in lip balms 😂 I wish it was chocolate lollies as I could help eat them !

A camera? My nearly 6 year old loves taking photos.

GingerbreadPanda · 04/10/2022 16:06

Dd is 5 and obsessed with her goggles.
Or one of the big inflatable unicorn ring things for the pool if they're allowed where you go. It'll look impressive, easy transport, and mine would definitely play with it inside too.

LuciaPopp · 04/10/2022 16:07

Washi tape x

NotLactoseFree · 04/10/2022 16:10

If she likes ballet and sparkly things - what about an elaborate and "dressy" ballet outfit? DD had one when she was a bit younger and loved putting it on to dance in at home.

She sounds like a great candidate for craft sets. DD is 7 and has received a number of jewellery making, tattoo, hair sets etc and she loves them. She gets them out spontaneously and will spend a happy afternoon creating jewellery or tattooing herself (and her buddies) or whatever. She's also got glitter make up/tatto type things that she likes to play with and dress up with.

LuciaPopp · 04/10/2022 16:13

Would she like Maileg mice? They have a few ballet ones.

God, I wish I had someone to buy Maileg mice for. Maybe I will buy one for myself 😭

NotLactoseFree · 04/10/2022 16:14

With some links:

glitter "make up"

jewellery example but she has loads and also just random sets of beads etc.

ridiculous OTT ballet dress

Some lip balm of her own would be a good shout. It could arrive in a stocking with lots of other small presents wrapped in colourful tissue paper. In the hold or separately and wrapped when you get there.

I was a younger child and usually asked for 'whatever Santa happens to have' as in my experience the cast offs of my older siblings were always much more interesting than my own stuff.

Enjoy.

P.s. consider putting some money aside for when she does ask for something bigger, maybe in a good few years.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 04/10/2022 16:16

Tickets to a ballet? I guess you're heading to somewhere in Scandinavia. The royal Danish Ballet is one of the best companies in the world.

Needmorelego · 04/10/2022 16:18

You can get make your own lip balm sets.

Tdcp · 04/10/2022 16:22

I get my dd lots of things to do, so craft kits / painting sets, lego, embroidery kits, bug house kits, nice colouring books etc.. that sort of thing. She hasn't been into toys for a few years so she can be tough to buy for!

lennylion · 04/10/2022 16:26

Fairy Garden?
Stocking full of shite is always a good idea as a pp said. Smile
Oh a frilly tutu style skirt went down a storm with one of my friend's kids who was always hard to buy for.

Why isn't that dress available for adults?! Yes I know I would look ridiculous but so what

MissFlimpkin · 04/10/2022 16:33

I saw a 'make your own' lip balm set today. Could be fun!

Macmaccat · 04/10/2022 16:57

These look so cute!! I would have loved them as a child but as she’s not into sylvanian type things I don’t thing they would be for her :-(

Macmaccat · 04/10/2022 16:59

Nope we’re coming to the U.K. for Christmas! It’s our first time! Expecting some cold frosty weather :-)

OP posts:
NotLactoseFree · 04/10/2022 17:06

@lennylion I hear you. DD's one is purple and floaty and I think it's adorable. Which is why I agreed to buy it when she BEGGED me after she spotted it while we were on holiday a few years ago! I couldn't believe I was handing over £32 or something stupid for it!
