Presents for 6 year old girl that doesn’t want anything!!

My daughter (youngest of 5) is a tricky one to buy for. She doesn’t really play with many toys. Not sure what she gets up to really 😂 we don’t get tv with adverts here so they never get inspiration from that and there is no smyths toys to take a wander around either.

I really need some help. What are other 6 year olds getting??

things to consider….
it can’t be too massive as we are overseas for Christmas (needs to fit in a suit case and be less than 23kg!)

she can’t read

she’s the youngest of 5 so we already have a garage full of sylvanians, Lego etc that she has no interest in

she has no interest in barbies, lol etc

last year she had a yoto player which she loves but we have so many cards already.

experiences are no good as we live overseas

hit me with ideas please. The others are all so easy as they do a list but she never knows what to ask for

Thanks in advance

Squishmallow and new bedding? My 6yo dd uses her squishmallows as cushions on her bad and if you order from smyths toys they come vacuum packed so are flat.

BadgerLovesMash · 05/10/2022 10:04

Since my dd was around 5/6 she has been obsessed with playing games. Some favourites that don't require reading are dobble, jenga, connect 4, pass the pigs, pictureka, no more llamas, colour brain disney edition. A games compendium with chess/draughts, snakes & ladders and more in it.

Harumika sets where you make up you own outfits on a mannequin. No sewing involved, they were cheap on bargain max recently!

Squishmallow are very popular here, hers are used as pillows and for snuggling up with!

Jewellery making kits!

Crystals, she loves all the different ones and seeing what their properties are. We bought a mystery box from etsy. She keeps them in a jewellery box. She also loves fossils, especially if they are dinosaur related! All just extended on from her love of shiny rocks and pretty seashells we find 🤣

Kinetic sand, this is quite heavy though so not sure if it would be good to travel with! But you can get little pots for a stocking filler. My dd plays with hers in a cat litter tray to contain the mess! She loves anything sensory so we did her a sensory tub in the cat litter tray last year, kinetic sand, ingredients to make gloop, cloud dough, play dough and the instructions. Then some little animals, cutters and sand moulds.

I know she's not reading but how about picture books? My dd loved where's Wally, and the various animal versions. And her absolute favourite was just imagine, you choose and mixed up fairy tales by Nick Sharratt. These dont require reading its all about talking about the pictures.

And not sure how you feel about it but mine love their echo dot, they ask questions, set reminders, play games and listen to music from Spotify. You can get kids ones now that are animals.

(My dd is 10 but quite young in her tastes compared to her peers and these are things she has consistently loved since she was about 5/6!)

My 6 year old is getting Hama beads, a gem stone digging set (though it is quite weighty), jigsaw puzzles and a chocolate lollypop maker. As well as a few toys

Runaway1 · 05/10/2022 20:11

The Story Orchestra book of The Nutcracker was a big hit here. Jellycat do Nutcracker-themed soft toys too.

Also a National Geographic fossil digging kit was really enjoyable and kept us busy for ages!

LetUsPonce · 05/10/2022 20:19

My daughter loved something called a Rainbow Loom from that age onwards. It enabled her to make bracelets etc. from elastic bands. Am not sure if it's still popular.

My daughter and her friends love loom bands!

I’ve ordered my little girl of the same age a set of Posca paint pens and a black paper sketchbook

What about a den making kit?

SE13Mummy · 05/10/2022 21:33

At a similar age, my didn't-really-do-toys DD would have loved:
Pyjamas
Fun socks for everyday wear
Unusual hair clips (look at Accessorize for holly or star shaped ones)
Fingerless gloves with the flaps to turn them into mittens or gloves with different people on each finger
Bobble hat and matching scarf
A cross body bag which would fit her stuff in e.g. gloves, tissues, notebook (Accessorize again)
Fabric purse with her initial (M&S often do them, or Primark)
Novelty tissues (look at places such as Flying Tiger)
Bubble playdoh stuff from Lush
Fluffy socks (Primark)
Jellycat toy

You can look for lip balms that are colorless at first but then they start to either gain it or chage the color, there are so many of them in various designs: www.amazon.com/color-changing-lip-balm/s?k=color+changing+lip+balm

Mood rings are fun for kids (and adults too lol) www.etsy.com/market/color_changing_ring

If she has any favorite characters from movies or books you can either make a collage of their pictures and frame it or make a photo montage and get a picture of her in the setting of her favorite cartoon or movie.

trampoline123 · 06/10/2022 08:43

What about a ticket to Matilda in theatre or a day out she will love. We often do memory presents opposed to toys

CourtneeLuv · 06/10/2022 08:52

What about an experience rather than tat?

If she's the youngest of 5, what about a booklet of vouchers for one on one time with you?, say 12, one for each month and you have a day with her doing something fun when she presents it.

It doesn't have to be expensive things.
Feeding ducks.
Trip to shopping centre with hot chocolates in the coffee shop.
Both going roller skating.
Adam of bike riding and picnic.
Etc etc etc

CourtneeLuv · 06/10/2022 08:53

A day, not Adam.

ODFOx · 06/10/2022 08:56

A small digital camera

CatsAreCrackers · 06/10/2022 08:58

My daughter is the same, always has been and is now 14, sigh... birthdays and Christmas are a nightmare. Also used to live on a small island(you're not in the South Atlantic by any chance?) and she had to make her Father Christmas list in August as everything came in by ship!😂

One year she had "packet of seeds" and "a surprise" on her wish list... That was a tough year!

We got her loads of seeds and she loved planting them. Nice and easy to pack too as long as they are commercially packed seeds.

eurochick · 06/10/2022 09:03

Dressing up clothes
Air dry clay set (quite heavy though)
Jewellery making
Slime making (also quite heavy)
Glitter pens
Activity book
Junior monopoly or game of life

SkankingWombat · 06/10/2022 19:27

Does she like STEM stuff? How about a coding robot like Botley or a Bee Bot? Or a Galt science experiment set?

Do you have dive sticks/hoops for the pool? That is all my 6yo wants to do when we go for a family swim.

My 6yo is getting a cheap Harumika set and some Fimo this year. She has requested another Squishmallow too, but I'm not sure she needs or has room to house another! Her other gifts don't fit your criteria, unfortunately.

AdmiralButterfly · 07/10/2022 22:25

My 6yo enjoys fidget toys, felt top pen sets and craft books like dot to dot books. Also those colour in your own pillow case type things. Also things like yoyos and fairy lights.

LayTheTableMabel · 08/10/2022 06:36

Have you seen make your own lip balm kit (available on Amazon)?

Ikeatears · 08/10/2022 07:23

My 6 year old niece has asked for loom bands and a crystal growing set.

Realityloom · 08/10/2022 07:33

Vtech kids watch they do a camera too. Books?

ShreddedMarmalade · 08/10/2022 07:40

Yoto mini with headphones for use when travelling. Djeco art kit. Fidget toys. Story-telling dice. Peaceable Kingdom game (mine love The Three Coins).
