🎅🏼What is the most random thing you have gave/received in a stocking (light hearted)

Iv always kept to what I considered very generic things in my kids stockings (bath bombs, fluffy socks, Xmas chocolate, little game etc) and Iv got new ideas from here and from friends over the years.

But some of the things Iv read on here that goes in a stocking baffle me and I just laugh as it would never cross my mind to put it in a stocking🎅🏼

So what has everyone received or gave in a stocking that made you think ‘why’ or just gave you a laugh…

This is supposed to be light hearted! Ho ho ho 🎄

Blu-tack

LT2 · 03/10/2022 09:07

Not sure if it's that strange (I always found it excited as a kid) but I used to vet a new toothbrush in my stocking. We did have particularly large stockings so I think Father Christmas thought of a lot of useful items to fill it with, not just toys😄

aliceinshackles · 03/10/2022 09:16

Shampoo. Random but I had the horrible teenage greasy hair.
My nana thought somehow it was a perfect gift 😂

Tyrannosaurusdrip · 03/10/2022 09:24

I put new toothbrushes in for the kids. And toothpaste. Sometimes a bath bomb and bubble bath.
I gave my husband a nice bottle opener and some handcream last year. Not very 'random' though. 🤣

Blueberry40 · 03/10/2022 09:34

I got a cabbage in my stocking when I was about 9….it was a typically passive aggressive way of my mum telling me she thought I hadn’t behaved well that year!

Shlomping1234 · 03/10/2022 09:40

Tanning wipes 🤣🤣

BorkledDrek · 03/10/2022 09:42

I put a butter dish in my DD's stocking last year! It was the exact one she had been looking for for ages and she was delighted with it 😊 (she's in her twenties though)

Duckskitbank · 03/10/2022 09:55

What are the gifts you find strange OP?
My DH thinks it’s odd that I put pants and socks in stockings but he didn’t grow up with them so maybe it’s him!
I don’t like tat so stockings are full of useful things- underwear, toothpaste, bath stuff, fancy hair bobbles, etc. Plus a couple of small toys and lots of snacks.

Duckskitbank · 03/10/2022 09:57

I once put a whisk in my DH’s. That really baffled him! I’d bought a mini one for DS who was really into baking but it came in a set with a bigger one so Daddy (who never bakes) got that!

mam0918 · 03/10/2022 12:23

As a kid our stockings just had a net of nuts in (thats all, usually there was a selection box too but they didn't fit in so where usually just underneath. We didnt get toys and stuff in it)... I kind of miss it, I spent years looking for a nut cracker so might buy some for myself.

probably not random but I gave the kids bath bombs and shower gel pens which where met with confusion... we have never done toothbrushes or pants so they probably though why is household supplies in our stocking lol.

I thought cheese was a wierd one last year but was a hit with adults (problem is dont leave it in there too long).

WORST idea ever was the toffee apple in the toe... forgot about it, month later found a smooshed rotting apple in a stocking, miracle we didnt get ants.

MilliwaysUniverse · 03/10/2022 12:24

I bought a lock picking kit for DS last year. Very useful!

mam0918 · 03/10/2022 12:24

Oh wierdest was probable the year with the giant pencil sharpener for carrots.

LayTheTableMabel · 03/10/2022 12:39

@MilliwaysUniverse we did lock picking kits too one year. Teens and DH loved them! (It got very competitive!)

BearSoFair · 03/10/2022 12:47

DC make eachother's stockings, started a few years ago as a way to get them thinking about gift buying and considering what people might like. DS2 asked me to get a jar of gherkins on the weekly shop to go in teenage DS1's stocking because "he always has everyone's McDonald's gherkins, he's the only one who likes them" Grin I did get a jar and DS1 found it hilarious!

burblish · 03/10/2022 14:59

I put a ball of string in a DC’s stocking one year, after they kept coming up to me asking if we had any string for random, weird and wonderful “projects” they had dreamed up. They were genuinely thrilled! 😂

Mumumumu · 03/10/2022 15:08

CD writers pens when I was about 10!

OldTinHat · 03/10/2022 15:22

Plastic wind up racing poos. My DS and his GF said it was the best present they received that year!

That made me giggle but also 😱 how could a parent do this!

ChimpyChops · 03/10/2022 17:26

I'm putting hand sanitiser in 16 year olds this year as he is obsessed with it, everywhere we go, copious amounts.

Trumpton · 03/10/2022 17:30

Fluffy paint roller. Dd (3) was obsessed. We were decorating madly at the time and it was”Don’t touch. Don’t touch!”
then she got one in her stocking. She took it to bed for months.

BaronessBomburst · 03/10/2022 17:35

A honey drizzler
Battery operated milk frother
Sachets of Angel Delight
Ball of elastic bands
Tippex
Fancy teaspoon
Small tins of fizzy drinks
DS is easily pleased. Grin

I just love it when little children get so obsessed with things that they carry them around everywhere and sleep with them.

Trumpton · 03/10/2022 19:09

@NormalForNuneaton
So random ! Quirky little beasts!

PuttingDownRoots · 03/10/2022 19:14

I've put plasters in before (character ones)
If you've ever met my family you would know why they were universally appreciated.

The most joyous gift.... fake snow. It was our first year living in Cyprus and my then 2yo was insistent there would be snow on Christmas day. Santa couldn't make that wish, but her and DD1 (then 4yo) had great fun with that fake snow and their new Frozen dolls

feckoffbrian · 03/10/2022 19:29

Silly putty snowmen. The kids had them for years!

And DM always gave us babybels.
