Hi, my dd is 8 years old, love L.O.L dolls, unicorns etc.
Do you have any recommendations for a lovely gift?
TIA.

I’ve bought my 8 year old a ‘my fairy garden’ unicorn set from homebargains. She loved another set I got for her birthday. She’s mostly get lol dolls too.

CoodleMoodle · 15/09/2022 13:32

Watching with interest. DD is 8 and has gone off toys a bit. She's even gone off Lego which is a pain as it's so easy!

I'm thinking books (her passion), craft stuff, maybe something Harry Potter/Pokémon/Minecraft. Other than that I'm at a loss. She's got a tablet and a Kindle, and we've got a Switch, so doesn't need any tech.

bumpytrumpy · 15/09/2022 13:48

My 7.5 yr old still wants barbie accessories

30not13 · 15/09/2022 14:30

She's asked for a barbie dream house. Thought she would be past then by now and sorry that it won't be played with but it's literally the only thing she is requesting so I will get it. Well the smaller version anyway.

There a cool looking lego Harry Potter book half price in tesco ATM @CoodleMoodle ?

TuxedoJunction · 15/09/2022 14:37

Watching with interest too. Our DD, who’ll be 8.5 at Christmas, has completely gone off toys too, and stopped playing with Barbie about a year ago now. Likes board games (we have quite a few), plus we have a Switch. Stuck for ideas at the moment.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 15/09/2022 14:45

My DD is a bit older (10) so going to list some of the biggest hits from past couple of years just in case it's good inspiration!

Fimo
Candle making kit
Knitting kit
Djeco scarf painting
Bath bombs
Tie dye kit
Ice cream maker
Sylvanian Families bits
Lego
My Generation dolls and clothes
Harry Potter calligraphy and wax seal set
LED strip lights
Fake oodie
Acrylic paint pens
Top Model
Cosy blanket and cushion for bed
Books

Also stuck for ideas for my almost 8yo, who sounds similar to the others here. Loves unicorns, lol dolls etc but feel like I'm buying stuff that won't get played with as she doesn't play with toys much anymore. She does love crafts, so will get some bits to do. Rex of London has some unicorn/fairy tattoos for her stocking. And we're getting her an Alexa for her bedroom as she likes singing but only in her room

AliceMcK · 15/09/2022 15:25

Stuck for my 8yo too, I’ve picked up some bits in the sales but nothing big, mainly clothes. She will tell you she likes unicorns, glitter sparkly things but the reality is she’s not played with toys for years. DH has banned slime, I’m usually ok with it but we have a new sofa arriving before Xmas so I’m in agreement with him this time. Most craft stuff dosnt tend to get used.

ideas I’m looking into, thinking about

New tablet that she can draw create animation on (probably too expensive for anything decent)
3D Pen
Shes shown DH Posca pens so he’s going to get some.
Set up a whole arts and crafts station with a drawing board or drafting table and lots of materials she can use. I’m probably leaning towards this as she loves art and is pretty good at it.

Tdcp · 15/09/2022 15:46

It's DDs 8th birthday and I've got her a few craft bits, an ice cream maker cup thing, new hobby equipment, a puzzle, wildlife habitat crafts etc and a small chocolate fountain for her birthday sleepover. She's not into toys though at the moment so it has been a bit hard! No idea on xmas yet!

RosieRoww · 15/09/2022 15:49

Glad I'm not alone, yes my dd seems to lost interest in toys as well and almost all the stuff she got last year for Xmas is now carefully hidden in the shelves.:/

My DD is older (10) and has gone off most toys but does still really value her Schleich collection. They do some fantasy animals - I'm not 100 % certain if they do unicorns etc as my DD is more into the Gothic and likes 3-headed dogs and things, but I'm pretty sure they would make ones representing the lighter side of fantasy too! 🤣

AM26 · 15/09/2022 16:18

It's definitely a tricky age when they don't play with toys so much anymore! So far I'm getting mine a giant squishmallow and an instax mini 11 with a scrap book to go with it so she can fill it with the photos. Following for ideas.

CeeJay81 · 15/09/2022 16:35

I'm stuck with my 8 year old dd too. She's soft toy mad but has a mountain of them already. She's not really into lego either. All I can think of is a new switch game and maybe a board game. Hopefully she will think of something before otherwise it'll just be bits rather than a main present.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/09/2022 16:52

For DD (8) we're getting her a new Kindle Fire Kids (older version)
Then I'm thinking of experiences like zookeeper for the day; falconry etc
Her birthday was a few weeks ago & we got her a new bike & archery lessons, as well as art supplies.

Roundthebend45 · 15/09/2022 16:53

I’m getting my 8 year old books, clothes, a Lego dots message board (she is going off Lego too but likes Lego dots), gaming headphones for the Xbox, bath bombs, squishmallow, boggle game. We took her to Harry Potter studios earlier in the year so that was her big present.

liveforsummer · 15/09/2022 16:58

An experience - possibly a capybara one and riding things. Never short of present ideas when your dc are horsey. The amount (and cost( of all the merch these days is insane

youarntaguest · 15/09/2022 17:04

Galt junior sequin art. My girls loved it and it kept theM busy for ages !

Sallyfreckles · 15/09/2022 17:56

I know not everyone is a slime fan but the Original Stationery ones from Amazon are fab and keep them entertained for hours, got my 8 year old the mermaid one.
Also ordered the mini baking set that she's seen on YouTube, tiny set and apparently really bakes! From the WordPress.
The DIY Japanese candy kits been a hit before too (thanks to a poster on here from last year, never heard of them before!)

AutumnDaysDawn · 15/09/2022 18:22

@TuxedoJunction Have you got the Horrible Histories board game? It's excellent and played with loads in our house. I've bought it as a gift for a friends DD too.

TuxedoJunction · 15/09/2022 18:28

@AutumnDaysDawn - no we haven’t got that! Will go and have a look at it, thank you 😊. My DD likes watching the film Horrible Histories.

I can highly recommend the Harry Potter cluedo for anyone that has a Harry Potter fan. A really good board game.

AutumnDaysDawn · 15/09/2022 18:31

@TuxedoJunction I love the Horrible Histories film! We haven't got Harry Potter cluedo- I'll have to have a look for it.

APurpleSquirrel · 15/09/2022 18:35

Throw Throw Burrito is also a fab game for this age - who doesn't love throwing a foam burrito at each other!?

toomuchfaster · 15/09/2022 18:47

I've got mine a candy floss machine and some art supplies. I'm liking the idea of Harry Potter cluedo!

PollyEsther · 15/09/2022 18:55

My DD is 8, but will turn 9 before Christmas. For her birthday she's getting a sewing machine, instant camera, riding bits she needs, possibly a label maker (I may regret that), craft stuff, pyjamas/onesies.

For Christmas, we're getting her an iPad this year, but we don't normally do such extravagant gifts. She's had a Kindle fire for kids for years but it's old and pretty rubbish now. Her homework is all set on an app so she could do with her own device on which to complete it which also means she doesn't need to 'borrow' mine. Will probably also grab some smaller bits to go alongside with the stocking such as books, more craft supplies, fabric for sewing machine etc.

MrPoppysParka · 16/09/2022 14:33

One of those Snuddie things from Primark if you don’t want to stretch to the crazy oodie prices?
DD is 8 next week and I’ve got her one, as well as pyjamas and an instax camera. Struggling for her birthday, let alone Christmas! This is the first year I haven’t got her any toys 😔
