Hi, my dd is 8 years old, love L.O.L dolls, unicorns etc.
Do you have any recommendations for a lovely gift?
TIA.

My DD will be 9 by Christmas. I agree it's a tricky age to buy for. She seems to have gone off lego and Barbies now, she still occasionally plays with her Our Generation dolls but not enough to justify buying more. She's getting

-This scooter www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/outdoor/scooters/large-scooters/aero-c3-scooter-with-dynamic-rgb-lights/p/212236
-A Hype leopard print backpack (she and all her friends love all things leopard print atm for some reason!)
-A tie dye craft kit
-Harry Potter musical jewellery box

  • The Mysterious Benedict Society books
  • A Harry Potter onesie
  • Probably a new switch game (she's getting a Nintendo switch for her birthday) but not sure which one yet.

Stocking will be stuff like fidget toys, hair scrunchies, lip balm, bath bomb, scented gel pens. Stationery is always a big hit.

Drones or those remote control cars that carry stuff between rooms seem to give hours of entertainment.

I got a biscuit delivered on one earlier.

So interesting! My DD is 8, turning 9 soon after Xmas and seems fairly typical in her tastes. She loves reading, crafts, gymnastics. She is actually v easy to buy for, so always ends up with too much stuff that she doesn't have time to use. She has a lot of LOL and Sylvanians but plays with them v rarely now so I won't be buying any more. Ditto Playmobil which we have tons of!

I won't get all of these, but here are some things she may get for Xmas or birthday:

Gymnastics bar (foam) - not really looked into this but her friend has one and it wasn't too huge
Special pens. Last year it was a set of skin-coloured pens and drawing pens. This year, maybe those foam pens from Hobbycraft. Plus erasable pens, that kind of thing.
Kawaii type stationery and organisers, eg little boxes and folders -I'm looking on Etsy for this
Some general craft stuff, maybe for knitting, fimo, or a craft knife.
Books - loads of books, hopefully most secondhand
Cosy things as she's always cold! She already has a fleece poncho, lots of warm socks and slippers, fleece-lined leggings. Probably a fake oodie, hat and warm gloves

Lots of great ideas on here already!

When your looking at gymnastics bars make sure you get one that lays flat on hard surfaces. We got one but because of the hinge it wobbles on flat surfaces, it’s only good to go on grass.

DD is 9 and the last birthday and Christmas have been tough as she has totally stopped playing with toys. A few things I got which have been successful:

Bluetooth Karaoke speaker
Kids Alexa
Stationery and craft stuff - she's obsessed with Sharpies and now has every possible colour and type
She still loves soft toys so they are still a regular feature
This last birthday I got her some merch from her favourite YouTuber (Hoodie and t-shirt) which she went crazy for

She wants a hover board for Christmas.

Was it a Cannons folding bar you had problems with?

Mine is asking for a games console to play Minecraft. I am in two minds as she is our eldest and don't know how much use she or anyone else will get out of it...but maybe.

She is really into Harry Potter now and also unicorns and lego.

My dd is 10 now and we have always had games consoles in the house as DH is a gamer. She started off with a nintendo 2DS, which was good as you could also take photos/videos and loads of games available and cheap (we buy games second hand) but now uses the Nintendo switch, which is great as she can play it alone handheld or we can play all together on the TV. I personally prefer nintendo as there are more family games available, minecraft is available too. We play just dance, mariokart, Mario party, super smash bros all together. She has played pokemon, animal crossing, final fantasy on her own. And I'm sure there's lego Harry potter, she had it on the 2DS so didn't get it for the switch.

How about a selection of crystals? My daughter loves them, she displays them on her dressing table and has a book about the different properties. I bought her a mystery box off etsy and wrapped them in a nice wooden box from the works.

Fuse beads went down really well here, she still loves them at 10 and has made loads of lovely creations for us and friends/teachers.

Jewellery making, I bought a load of beads from Shein and put them in a bag with her favourite animal on. She has spent hours making bracelets and necklaces!

Squishmallow, she loves her big one and he is perfect for snuggling against on the sofa or when on the floor playing her computer games!

Cooking equipment, last year we got the girls a milk frother/heater with a selection of hot chocolate and new cups and marshmallows etc. It has been used loads! We also have a churro maker and waffle maker that we love!

Posters for her room went down very well!

Gardening kit went down well here. Seeds, terracotta pots (can be painted too), small versions of real gardening tools, not the plastic ones as they break. You can also make a tiny pond in a pot with a solar fountain.

AliceMcK · 18/09/2022 15:11

@Runaway1 it was a Fun!ture 7ft Folding Gymnastics Balance Beam. It was an emergency lockdown birthday present durning the first lockdown.

I agree with all this. My DH is a gamer too and plays a lot with DDs. He picked up some second and Nintendo DSs for them when they were younger. We have an old Xbox but not really played with, oldest DD loves her switch, everyone loves just dance and animal crossing. Right now she’s playing Fortnite with her friends a lot. I bought the Harry Potter Lego game for Christmas.

I bought my little girl a rocking horse - the biggest you can buy. She has ridden it every single day of the last two years. It was expensive but the best thing I've ever bought.

Franticbutterfly · 18/09/2022 16:03

My DD3 will be just 9. She wants Fimo, Lego and a heated throw.

Wanda616 · 18/09/2022 16:09

DD is getting a Switch to share with her brother. She wants a fleece duvet cover in a rainbow pattern, Heelys, a lunchbox with her initial on it, and a stack of Pringles. We saw lots of bits she liked in b&m, do you have one locally to walk round?

PretzelLady · 18/09/2022 16:13
