Anybody following The Organised Mum Method at Christmas?

Long time lurker but new poster! This is my first thread as I'm feeling very christmassy and in full preparation mode!

This year I am giving the TOMM at Christmas method a go. There's a special Christmas tab in the app with weekly to-dos and we are on week one.

This week I've booked theatre shows for the family and a special concert just for DH and I. I've added local events to the diary and am waiting for dates to be released to meet Father Christmas.

Christmas wrap (brown paper, Christmas stamps and coloured string) is arriving today and I'm planning to wrap presents as I buy them and stash them in my secret attic.

My Christmas planner has made an appearance and I'm making a long list of things to cook and make.

What has everybody been preparing, planning, doing or making?

Yes I will be or a variation but 12 weeks before is the start of October so I still have a few weeks before I start.

Devo1818 · 07/09/2022 11:27

Never heard of this but like the idea. Is it very time consuming? (Work full time with 2 young kids)

mogtheexcellent · 07/09/2022 11:33

I dont want to download the app but then I generally am pretty organised for Christmas. Have already booked Santa (was sold out by august Shock) and sorted a date for panto but need to go in person to book as we have vouchers.

My advice is download a present app. I use gift list. A serious game changer.

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 07/09/2022 11:42

I have the app but hadn't noticed the Christmas section so thanks for pointing it out! Reckon I will follow it as a reminder of things to do.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/09/2022 12:06

I did this last year and will do it again. Although, last year, in my sheer enthusiasm to fully get in to the spirit of things in week one, I completely over scheduled us with events and actually made things harder than they needed to be. 🤣

So, I'm sat on my hands not booking us in to everything.

I think the idea is that you start now and week 12 falls on the last week of November so you can fit in all the stuff you commited yourself to three months ago enjoy the season.

I feel like we are the same person.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/09/2022 13:28

Brilliant, I might need another me to get through the toy and clothing sort out next week! 😁

Stompythedinosaur · 07/09/2022 14:02

Yes, I'm doing Organised Christmas this year!

I've book a couple of Xmas days out (Disney on Ice and a panto) and considering booking a local farm as well.

I've ended up booking some tickets for gifts too - have booked the dds tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, bought dm tickets to The Crucible NT Live and bought dp tickets to The Ocean At The End of the Lane.

Nope, the idea is that you do a couple of activities each week, but start early to get on top of Xmas.

The original organised mum method is for housework and you do just 30 mins a day to keep the house looking good. It's very effective... when I can actually be bothered 😂

I've not tried a present app before, but it sounds amazing! Thank you 😃

I did it last year and I have to say it was the nicest, most organised, stress free xmas i've had since the kids come along.

I started this week, as a PP said, I plan on getting it all done by the first week of december so that I can relax and enjoy the season.

Thoroughly recommend it.

It's called the Team Tomm app. It's got a yellow background with a cartoon lady's face. Its predominantly a cleaning app (very useful) but it has a side section for Christmas!

Nice and easy to wrap too 😉

Thanks for the thread, going to give it a go. I love Christmas!

RunningKatie · 07/09/2022 14:40

Polar Express booked pre-covid so hoping we'll make it this year.
I want to book an illuminated lights trail, just need dh to agree a date, and arrange a ddog-sitter.

Otterses · 07/09/2022 14:44

I am 😊DS2 is due in early November so aiming to try to get a bit ahead. Pre school have said they’re not doing a play this year, Santa booked and a Christmas walk through light show thing, otherwise have pencilled in free local events on the calendar so we can go to whatever we feel up to. I do really need to sort a delivery saver thing in general really.

Devo1818 · 07/09/2022 15:46

Does anyone know if Tesco or Sainsburys do early Christmas slots with delivery passes?

FourTeaFallOut · 07/09/2022 15:53

If you are on the £7.99 delivery saver plan with Tesco then they open the delivery slots to you first, it was mid-November last year at 6am and an absolute scrum to get the best times. I don't know about Sainsbury's, sorry.

Devo1818 · 07/09/2022 15:54

Going to be changing jobs soon, it is possible I will be working Christmas Day & Boxing Day 😁

I will look at the app, it sounds like fun.

HedgerowRobin · 07/09/2022 17:58

I’ve never seen this before - such a great idea! I’ve just returned to work after mat leave and have a baby and a teenager in the house so I need all the organisation I can get 😂 just in the process of booking the panto and pencilling in dates for Christmas markets now!

Thanks! I am very pleased to not be reducing the amount of stuff that comes into the house!
