Your 2 year old's favourite Christmas presents

DS will be 2 this Christmas, most presents from us will be 'sensible gifts' like clothes and books, and he'll get all sorts from friends and family.
However I'm stumped for his 1-2 main presents.
He's super active, sociable and always on the go or climbing something.
We don't have a huge garden so confined a bit on outdoor presents that are huge in size.

What did your 2 year old love? Give me some inspiration MN hive mind.

Same.

Brio/ Hape train track, Grimms rainbow, semi circles and building boards as well as the Grimms blocks, and also a wobble board- all of them are still firm favourites 3 and a bit years later!

december2020 · 05/09/2022 22:09

We caved Christmas last year and he got Brio train track (and loves it!!!) so will be getting some additions to that (mostly from friends and family). He literally plays with it every day.

Great minds 🙂

Oooh I'll check out some building boards and wobble boards!

Would a boy not like one do you think?

MotherOfCrocodiles · 05/09/2022 22:27

Micro scooter

Findahouse21 · 05/09/2022 22:29

Leapfrog ice cream cart is used daily in this house, as was a set of dolls and doll care stuff. My daughter loved a book trolley that I got from the great little trading company at that age

purplebells · 05/09/2022 22:29

@loudlylikealion yes sorry I just meant I bought one for my girl if that makes a difference

ideasmirrour · 05/09/2022 22:34

Sorry I've forgotten how to do clicky links. My dc absolutely loved this. It was played with for years and years from toddlers until they had to squeeze themselves onto it. All visiting kids loved it too.

Great price at the moment

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/09/2022 22:43

My DD had a hot wheels garage around that age

CollywobbleisCreepy · 05/09/2022 23:05

Keep the ideas coming please! I’m completely and utterly stumped about what to get my nearly 2 year old for his end of September birthday and Christmas. Why didn’t we think of this and space it out better?! 😂

What do kids do with the rainbow?

My 2yo LOVES our rainbow - when I got it I thought it might never get played with and just make the shelf look nice, but he builds the pieces into towers, uses them as bridges and tunnels for his cars, makes houses for teddies out of them etc

Cuwins · 05/09/2022 23:14

@purplejungle that's good to know- it's on my 10m olds Christmas list

CoodleMoodle · 05/09/2022 23:15

An easel. We bought DD one for Christmas from IKEA when she was 2, she's 8 now and she and DS(4) still use it every day! We've gone through so many pens... They don't use the chalkboard side so much but LOVE the whiteboard.

At 2 DD also loved small world toys (eg Peppa Pig figures) and DS loved (and still loves!) cars, especially Hot Wheels.

Finchgold · 05/09/2022 23:24

I aim for something they’ll love instantly and something with longtime value. I found at that age a balance bike was the present that got most use in the long run but the favourite present was probably a toy bin lorry.

What do kids do with the rainbow?

My kids build towers, houses for schleich animals, rolls trains down the slopes, turns the parts upside down to make rocking beds/ boats/ etc for other toys. We've also used the Grimms bits to make bridges for the train set/ build tall railway slopes with the slanty/ sloped train tracks etc. Oh and the building boards are sometimes ice skates and my kids slide across the room standing on them- not something I'd recommend but they love it!

SNWannabe · 06/09/2022 00:15

musical ds1 got his first drum kit age 18 months (2nd xmas) but that is a pretty niche gift I guess

dd1 got a dolls pram and baby doll- again maybe a little specific to her

Active and outdoorsy 2 year old DD2 loved her micro scooter for her second birthday and the playmobil zoo for her xmas at 2.5

when ds2 was just over 2 he got a wooden train set (bigjigs) and station. They’re still enjoyed now he’s 9!!

Iceballoons · 06/09/2022 00:19

play doh set was a big hit, outdoor chalks, play kitchen / ice cream cart, ride on toys…
