It's early September and we're already on thread 3 - wonder how many threads we'll get to this year! Any bets? Mine is 29!

If you have a referral link for a website, do post it on this thread

Gutted that I missed out on a Spode Christmas tree bargain on eBay this afternoon. I've been collecting for donkeys years but missed out on a bundle of stuff I haven't got because I was stuck in a meeting!
Hope one of you lot won it instead. Hey ho.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 13/09/2022 19:40

Thank you! I’ve already sorted their presents, but will keep that in mind for the future! I got them both a little makeup brush set or lipstick and nail polish set and mini G&t!Xmas Grin

mac1974 · 13/09/2022 19:58

I'm considering an ember mug for DH this year. Has anyone ever managed to find any deals on them?

Famousthehero · 13/09/2022 20:00

@Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough if you have time for a mooch on AliExpress it would maximise your budget for your daughter.
just had a quick look for unicorn and this 80cm plush came up which looks nice if she’s into teddies - bet there’s loads more on there :-)

wow thank you! Also I think that it might be a good place to get some stocking fillers? Will have a mooch and report back.

newroundhere · 13/09/2022 20:06

After your excellent ideas on picnic blankets I'm looking for some inspiration on garden shoes or clogs for my mum - size 8. Crocs are so expensive and I'm sure there must be nicer things out there (hopefully a few bargains too...). Anyone seen anything good on their travels?

Burts Bee cracker which contains a lip balm and a hand salve reduced to £3.92. I’ve bought for teacher gifts!

I missed this yesterday but managed to get four of the Christmas themed ones for £4.37 today. Thank you! Teachers/TAs sorted.

TwinkleChristmas · 13/09/2022 14:21

Thanks. Never thought of that.

@TwinkleChristmas TK Maxx is excellent for Wet Brushes normally around £4.99. I've picked up Disney ones and other special editions too.

CarrotCarrotCucumber · 13/09/2022 21:10

@Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough would your father perhaps like the Brian Cox "Universe" book? It's been reduced to £8 on Amazon, presumably as the series it accompanies is now over. www.amazon.co.uk/Universe-book-presented-Professor-Brian/dp/0008389322/ref=sr_1_1?crid=24BNWRDZG7Q2J&keywords=brian+cox+universe&qid=1663099097&sprefix=brian+cox+universe%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-1

@Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough - not sure how you spend Christmas but would your wider family be up for Secret Santa? We do that now with the adults - budget is usually £40 and it means everyone gets something half decent.

I have a four year old daughter. I’ve bought a doll in the Tesco toy sale and I bought two £5 lego sets on Amazon. I also bought a ‘little live pets’ chameleon which is SO cute for £10 and also a farting, jiggling Unicorn for under a tenner, as well as this lovely book for £3. If I see any other bits, I’ll think of you! I also follow The Little Bargain Hunter who posts best daily deals for toys on Amazon.

NickMyLipple · 13/09/2022 21:17

all round crowd pleaser…. Bath Slime! Great stocking filler for £2 I think 🙂

@NisekoWhistler my children really enjoy the Maps series of books by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinska, plus the accompanying activity books. They are large, A3 I'd say, colourful and have individual pages for each country with local animals, landmarks, people and facts. Each page can be removed and used as a poster if wanted.

TwinkleChristmas · 13/09/2022 21:52

Just seen the suggestion of the wet brushes. I don’t think we have had one of them.

The bristles look fairly thin though. My daughter has really thick long hair down to her lower back so the bristles can’t be too bendy as they won’t get the tangles out. They just end up gliding through the top.

DinosaurOfFire · 13/09/2022 22:07

@TwinkleChristmas My daughter has similar hair with lots of curls, and a wet brush doesn't touch it. We use a generic tangle teezer or the tangleteezer for curly thick hair, or alternatively a denman brush. Anything with softer bristles just doesn't work, I would stick with a tangleteaser for long thick hair.

LateNightTalking · 13/09/2022 22:16

@NisekoWhistler I like the Usborne one too. They have a lift the flap one with lots of facts.

I don't love the Wet Brush, but it's better than Tangle Teezer. Will check out the one from a PP from Savers!

Wee blast for the past based on unicorns.

Robert (remember him?) was named by my dd2 when we bought her one for Xmas the year before everyone bought them on here.

when we moved house in 2029, Robert went up into the new loft in a black bag.

dd2 will be 18 on Saturday. She came down in a flap a few weeks back because she couldn’t find Robert in her room and forgot we put him away. So he’s been brought back down, dusted off and has pride of place on her bed again.

she’s grown a bit though and is, finally, bigger than Robert.

@RJnomore1 I remember him well, he was thread mascot that year!

My DD and I have thick long curly hair and the wet brush seemed amazing on first try however it turned out it only brushed the surface of our hair, leaving lots of knots underneath. I’ve tried a few different brushes but have always gone back to my trusty Denman with hard bristles.

With the dunelm kids HP hoodies did anyone know roughly what ages the sizes were geared at? I have a v skinny but quite tall 5 year old!

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 13/09/2022 11:54

@10in10 Not sure if the Harry Potter ones are similar sizes but their other kids dimensions show as
Small: Length 63cm x Chest 49cm,
Medium: Length 78cm x Chest 60cm

The adults are oversized so will probably be far too big

@Givealittlebit These are the sizes for the other dunelm kids fleeces - imagine HP ones same/similar
