I can never usually think of anything nice to get off DH (who always asks what I want and I can never usually think of anything). What's everyone asking for this year? x

I too love Christmas and find it much more magical the older I get! I also prefer giving and make an effort to get things that I think the recipient will love. My dad once said to me years ago that people mostly buy stuff they love to give to others and don't think about what the person would really like (I found this to be very true over the years!). So I really take time to think about something thoughtful and if they ever mention anything during the year I try and make a note of it to give me ideas at Christmas and birthdays.

My mum always makes a huge effort at Christmas for everyone so I like to make sure she has nice things to open and my DH is good at buying presents but I also do the list so I have some ideas. So far I have on mine:

The Mel C autobiography (she was always my fave Spice Girl!)
New xmas hot water bottle as mine has broke
National Trust book
Trifle dish
Fold up jigsaw table

A piece of green toned vintage jewellery, like a small kingfisher broach or something perhaps. Something I can make up complicated stories about.
a gardening journal. For the spring optimist in me!
blue cat chocolates. To bring back a wonderful French trip years ago.
a head massage. Preferably while someone else is cooking Christmas dinner?
michael Harding lead yellow oil paint. It’s a fortune, not justified and contains lead. But I’d graciously accept as a gift. And ration for years!
hand made papers. Enough that I can stop panicking about experimenting with them.
tomato hand cream. To bring summer smells into December.

pictures painted or things made by my children.

I will get lovely small thoughtful things, just not these things, (except the childrens artwork, which is the best bit)! It’s fine, because the gift is best if it contains some of the giver too! Nice to write a fantasy list though…and I’m going to buy the hand cream for myself!
I do prefer the giving. Just spending a while trying to puzzle them out and bring some joy. It’s a bit magical.

Really good stationery ( I miss letter writing)
Indian cookbook by the owner of Darjeeling Express
Spa Day voucher ( if I’ve got rid of my swollen legs & ankles as currently I can’t go in the sauna, steam room or jacuzzi)
Massage voucher ( if my physical problems have eased)
Actually a new body!!
Roberto Cavelli perfume
Really good chocolate
Calendar
Notebooks

To not be scared of horses and go to Montana and for a ride with Kevin Costner and then sit round a camp fire and just stare at him, maybe hold his hand because he's old enough to be my dad so anything else would be weird.

Failing that some Jimmy Choos and Chanel Cristalle perfume. Which is infinitely more possible than my first wish.

A butter cutter tool (for crumbles)
A new/upgraded gpu for our pc so I can render my models faster.

Or a swish new laptop to do the same.

Vouchers for udemy online learning or an online digital art qualification.
Crystal maze experience and a team to go with me.

A 'remarkable' digital drawing pad
Ninja airfryer
Clip on candy thermometer
Trip to John sones museum
Subscription to cad modelling software

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/09/2022 13:46

@Sevensilverrings

I'm intrigued, what tomato hand cream do you want?

Sevensilverrings · 02/09/2022 13:55

17caterpillars1mouse
it’s this one I’ve had before, but there’s a few out there (rather surprisingly perhaps)?!

So nice to see people for the most part who actually want presents rather than nothing at all as adult.

Mine isn’t a thing as such. My family (not me) fell out with m friends a few years ago and love if they could make up as we were so close.
otherwise books

ytrewq1 · 02/09/2022 14:52

@YelloCar Yes. And I do. By seeing my children happy on Christmas. Receiving presents isn't even a little bit important to me as an adult.

BirdyWoof · 02/09/2022 15:02

Doc’s maybe or a contribution to a new tattoo. Not really sure, yet, but something along the lines of clothes/shoes/tattoos.

Christmas has always been the time we treat ourselves rather than throughout the year, so we’ll set a budget and then see what both us would like that fits within the budget. Usually there’s a few £ spare for surprises, but it means that we both get what we would like and there’s zero waste because we don’t end up buying tat/stuff we won’t use etc.

Each to their own. But it is a little bit odd to come to a thread of Christmas Present Wishlists when it’s not something you’re at all inclined to join in with. I get that you want to give your two pennies worth though.

From my point of view as a child - I adored finding and making small gifts for the adults of my family and seeing them receive gifts from others. Just simple things; one year for example we all got slippers and my young mind was absolutely blown when my mum got a (grown up) matching pair too from my grandparents. We sat in a line with our feet up and laughed. Your children might enjoy seeing you get gifts.

French style bistro chairs for the patio

mam0918 · 02/09/2022 15:54

I hate asking for stuff but I sometime buy myself a few things, somethings I have seen that I like:

A little second hand designer handbag, and its actually pretty cheap (american designer who doesnt have shops in the UK so not well know here) - I need a new handbag too as something leaked in mine and made an awful mess so I might buy it before xmas.

A cheap coat which is only £3.99, I own too many clothes and Im trying to declutter so I really shouldnt buy more but I have had it in my watched items for ages.

Much more expensive but I saw a cool pair of sparkly doc martins I like too.

HappyHappyHermit · 02/09/2022 16:01

Dd (4) has for some reason started enjoying polly pocket unboxings on YouTube, I'm rather hoping she'll put one on her list so I don't have to. I do quite fancy a play on some of them, just not sure I can really ask for one as an adult. I'd also like new fluffy slippers.

pilates · 02/09/2022 16:02

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse so you didn't 'ask' for it then. Not applicable.

Not as such but through conversation it went on my list 🤷🏻‍♀️

WorriedMillie · 02/09/2022 18:30

I’d like a couple of those retro seaside prints. My mum bought the Bamburgh one for OH for his birthday and we love it
Other than that, I’m not sure, I have enough “stuff”, so maybe an experience would be nice :)

hattie43 · 02/09/2022 18:57

I'd like

An Emma Bridgwater Xmas mug / plate
A halinka's fairies character
Cobalt blue equafleece x 2 for my dogs one in 37" and one in 20"
Diptique baises candle
Jo Malone pomegranate noir perfume
Clinique body lotion
Lego Christmas tree
And an absolute must Toblerone
