I can never usually think of anything nice to get off DH (who always asks what I want and I can never usually think of anything). What's everyone asking for this year? x

I had such a special, wonderful time each Christmas as a child.

I appreciate that this is an unpopular opinion but I think that Christmas is for children and find it bizarre when adults 'ask' for something. If I want something, I'll buy it.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 01/09/2022 23:38

I don't want anything. It's all just "stuff" stuff that none of us really need.

I really don't want anything to open from any of my family, they are all struggling with cost of living and I'm not yet. If I want something I will buy it for myself. I am so uncomfortable with the thought of my family going without to buy me some crap I could buy myself.

Catmuffin · 01/09/2022 23:45

A tea towel with strawberries on and a wall calendar so far. I love home made soaps from etsy but I've got loads so will try and use those first. Maybe a box of yankee tea lights that I use as bathroom air fresheners.

Hawkins001 · 01/09/2022 23:57

LadyCatStark · 02/09/2022 07:53

I don’t have a list but I’d like a (cheaper version of a) Dryrobe.

In our house it went like this:

Me: I really want a zoom lens for my camera but they're quite expensive.
DH: that's your Christmas sorted then.

It's not like I wrote a letter to Santa or anything 😁

ytrewq1 · 02/09/2022 09:39

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse so you didn't 'ask' for it then. Not applicable.

caringcarer · 02/09/2022 10:09

I'm hopeless at thinking of stuff I want because I really don't want stuff. I like a bunch of flowers. I used to like jewelry from DH but I never wear it so seems a waste of money. I find as I have got older I need and want less. My adult kids start asking me now and get cross with me if I don't tell them things but I know they don't have much money, far less than me,

DinosaurOfFire · 02/09/2022 10:24

My list so far:
Dolls in the range I collect (Rainbow High and Shadow High, @RicherThanYew Its nice to see another doll collector on the thread!)
D and D source books
Pc games- I really would like Stray, and a few others on my wishlist.
Accessories for my PC and my desk
Art materials- Alcohol markers, specialist papers, etc.

You know you’re still able to have a special, wonderful time as an adult? It will take nothing away from the children to do so. It’s not a ‘them or us’ situation, you can have both.

Cuwins · 02/09/2022 10:34

I also think that the idea that Christmas is only for children takes away some of the joy of giving. As a child/teen I loved picking out a present that I knew my mum/dad/gran would love. This often involved asking them for some ideas as I wanted it to be something they would really like. One of the best parts of Christmas Day for me was handing out the presents I had brought people and watching them open them. Now as an adult I still really enjoy this.

dudsville · 02/09/2022 10:48

I agree, i love Christmas. There's nothing i need. I ask for things i can buy, of course, but i like putting up a tree and seeing presents under it. Surprises aren't often things I want so are a waste. We have several friends who, like us, do not have children, and some are single and find the holidays a little saddening, and it's nice to have special meals and a little gift exchange.

Ponderingwindow · 02/09/2022 10:53

good markers
eyeshadow palette
Probably some lego

Our child requested that DH and I start getting stockings too. She wanted that to be part of our Christmas morning fun. So now we make sure to come up with things put inside. Use getting gifts apparently enhances her Christmas magic.

We are having a secret Santa this year among the adults, because of this - max £20 per head. Children excepted and couples buy each other whatever they want! I don’t know what I want from DH. I might ask for a fleecy jacket - I can’t stand driving in a coat in the winter, but OTOH, it’s cold in the car at first or filling up with petrol!
