URGENT! Anyone near Bromley able to spread Christmas cheer and help me get this gift for my ten year old?

My ten year old has been very difficult about Christmas and has said several times there is nothing she wants for Christmas. She has spent a lot of time looking for ideas but found nothing.

She has just bounced in super excited and said she can't wait for Christmas as she won't feel so cold if she gets the hot water bottle she has asked for...

About a month ago she mentioned she quite liked this hot water bottle in M&S www.marksandspencer.com/harry-potter-hedwig-hot-water-bottle/p/clp60516055 I asked at the time is that something you'd like for Christmas and she was non-committal. I've realised now that's because she wanted an element of surprise.

I've fessed up and told her I didn't get it for her and as she didn't do a list for Santa he won't have got it either (pretty sure she doesn't believe but plays along for her younger sibling). I can see the disappointment all over her face and she has quietly gone off to watch a Harry Potter film.

It's out of stock everywhere, but Bromley (and I've been through tons and tons of stores). Is there anyone local who would buy it and send it to me Royal Mail Special Delivery? I will of course cover all costs by BACS transfer or PayPal (friends and family).

I'm desperate to get it for her. Typically she hasn't made it easy!

How absolutely heart warming! My pregnant hormones can't take it! 😩

AdditionalCharacter · 21/12/2021 13:00

So glad you've managed to get one.

Just stating the obvious, but the MN must be a muggle as otherwise it'd be coming via owl.

@WhatAboutDessert

Thank you - I just went to check on her and she was having a little cry saying she is worried about Christmas as we've obviously got her surprise presents and she is nervous about it.

I should add we suspect SN and are currently working through a potential diagnosis with the school. She is very gifted academically but very black and white and get's very upset at Christmas and birthdays. I feel awful I completely misread this and failed to get it for her.

Really really hope somebody can help!

Such a lovely thread. I’m so pleased you’re getting one. MN at its finest. Nest of Vipers? Pah!

I know it’s not what you asked, but in terms of the suspected SN, DS1 is autistic and finds surprises really hard. Historically, birthdays and Christmas have been quite challenging for him. His strategy now is that he writes a list and then ranks the things he wants in order. He knows he won’t get everything and he knows there will be some small surprises in there too, but I now know which presents are the ‘important’ ones. We also take away as many demands as possible on Christmas Day. He can open his presents when he’s ready (and not necessarily in front of other people) - sometimes days after they were given - and take his Christmas dinner somewhere quiet if he feels overwhelmed. Since making these allowances (and communicating them to other people who see us over Christmas), we’ve all found it much more relaxing!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Xmas Smile

@SunshineCake1

How absolutely wonderful that someone has been able to help.

I just need someone to find my husband who has gone AWOL and I'll be even happier Confused.

I'm actually getting properly worried now. Our app says he's at home when he isn't. His phone is going to voicemail.

@WhatAboutDessert

Well this whole thread has really helped my festive spirit and made me realise that on the whole people are so lovely!

A huge thanks to the poster who has helped via DM and thanks to her, Hedwig is now winging his way to me, to be wrapped and opened Christmas Day. I know my daughter will be so happy, especially as she thinks she is definitely not getting him at this point.

I'm so grateful for the help, and also to everyone who has taken the time to offer and post on this thread. Thank you all!

Brilliant! Aww, so glad dd said it to you when she did, and that so many lovely posters offered help.

Well done to whoever got that extra special present sorted for your dd. I hope she will be thrilled to bits with it.

wejammin · 21/12/2021 14:12

I feel all warm and fuzzy now! I hope your DD is delighted on Christmas Day!

My 9 year old autistic son, also extremely intelligent, cannot stand surprises and often gets his Christmas presents as they arrive in the house, particularly if it's something he really really wants - his anxiety would be sky high waiting for Christmas Day. For his birthday he has his presents spread out over 7 days. He spends most of Christmas Day playing on his switch which horrifies my parents, but it's his safe place and he needs it. No point making everyone miserable!

NotSonicTheHedgehog · 21/12/2021 14:19

I agree with the PP who said next year's M&S Christmas advert needs to be based on @WhatAboutDessert thread!
I'm on the West coast of the US and have been following and hoping the hedwig hot water bottle would turn into a Christmas miracle...and thanks to all the lovely people on Mumsnet, it has!

@SunshineCake1 I'm also thrilled you've found DH...have you told him yet that half the world of Mumsnetters have been concerned about his where abouts?Xmas Grin😂
