Looking for some inspiration this year. We want a sit down meal with the kids and grandparents this year after a day of events. Nothing too fancy or time consuming and definitely no buffet.

What are you having?

OP posts:
StCharlotte · 19/12/2021 21:17

Beef goulash.

DelurkingAJ · 19/12/2021 21:18

Spaghetti bolognaise for lunch. Nice snacks for supper.

RJnomore1 · 19/12/2021 21:20

I’ve booked to go out 🤞🏻😬 but in previous years we did crusty bread, baked cheese, salad and a charcuterie board?

Weatherwax13 · 19/12/2021 21:21

Just us and one AC so we've decided on fillet steak. I'll make my own chips and mushroom sauce and grill some tomatoes. I'll already have spent time preparing for the family the next day, so something simple but still a treat

Jfw82 · 19/12/2021 21:27

Choice of shepherds pie or fish pie suits everyone

absolutelyknackeredcow · 19/12/2021 21:28

We always have fish pie for lunch after a swim (fingers crossed that goes ahead ) and then hot buffet bits for dinner

GettingStuffed · 19/12/2021 21:43

We're doing DIY pizzas, but in the past we've done meatball lasagne and fish pie.

pizzaobsessed · 19/12/2021 21:44

We're ordering a curry. No cooking for anyone

Quornflakegirl · 19/12/2021 21:45

A cheese board with quince spread and crackers, crisps and dips.

Kleopatrared · 19/12/2021 21:46

Tartiflette with green salad and crusty bread.

HeyMicky · 19/12/2021 21:46

Soup and a few hot canapés and salad. All
shop-bought, and tasty but not too filling before Xmas day

Pegasussnail · 19/12/2021 21:48

Something cooked in the slow cooker and you just need to cook baby potatoes

So a nice beef casserole or a curry with boiled rice and a few sides

Pulled pork ?

Tons of cooking going on here on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, we're out and about all Christmas Eve so it's a Chinese takeaway for us in the evening.

TheBitterBoy · 19/12/2021 22:00

Our childhood Christmas eve dinner was always Egg, Chips and Peas. In recent years we've gone out for a curry, but we're having takeaway this year.

Merrz · 19/12/2021 22:04

Also having family meal xmas eve and have decided spaghetti bolognese. Cooked my bolognese already and frozen it so will just take it out the freezer the night before to heat in a pan, boil some spaghetti and couple of garlic breads in the oven

Athomewiththehales89 · 19/12/2021 22:06

Belgium beef stew with garlic mash and roasted veg and poached pears with dark chocolate and cream plus the tiny Dutch gingerbread

viques · 19/12/2021 22:08

We always do macaroni cheese with crayfish tails(or big prawns) lots of cheese and cream in the sauce, breadcrumbs, little tomatoes and cheese on top. A bit of green salad.

onedayoranother · 19/12/2021 22:10

Homemade lasagna. Get a couple ready made fish pies. Chilli. Takeaway.

Babdoc · 19/12/2021 22:10

We will be having a buffet lunch, then a cooked dinner in the evening, which will be big juicy smoked salmon steaks, asparagus spears and potatoes, followed by home made chocolate chestnut log, iced in melted Nutella. I made that last week and froze it, so no extra work on the night.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/12/2021 22:22

Christmas burgers.
Bacon, Brie, cranberry sauce, red onion, lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise on a brioche bun and onion rings on the side.

Nearlytheretrees · 19/12/2021 22:24

Beef casserole done in the slow cooker

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 19/12/2021 22:27

Mexican

Chilli
Refried beans
Chicken fajitas

Served with tortillas, guacamole, sour cream and rice

The chilli and refried beans can be made the day before, and I’m buying a pre made chicken and pepper mix

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 19/12/2021 22:28

Full English at a cafe in the morning

Timeisavirtue · 19/12/2021 22:29

Chinese takeaway.... we’ve had Chinese on Christmas Eve since I was a teen and still do now... couldn’t have it last year as our local had covid... so had to settle with a kebabs, didn’t feel right...

MysticCT · 19/12/2021 22:36

Veggie spaghetti Bolognaise, we have it every Friday. Everybody still wanted to have it even though it's Christmas Eve.
It's already made in the freezer, so I'll only have to cook the pasta and make a salad.
