Looking for some inspiration this year. We want a sit down meal with the kids and grandparents this year after a day of events. Nothing too fancy or time consuming and definitely no buffet.

What are you having?

We always have a Chinese xmas eve and play games while eating it's nice

Sounds like fish and chips would work for you.

I usually do a big ham on Christmas Eve. Served with cheesy jacket potato's, red cabbage and parsley sauce (and baked beans for some!).

It feels festive and seems to suit all generations.

It sounds a hard but it isn't. I usually cook (boil) the ham the day before and then warm and glaze it on the day, so really easy/hands off. Same with the cabbage so it's just a re-heat. Everything just gets put in the oven and I just make the sauce.

The best part is having all the ham leftovers for after Christmas for Turkey/Ham pie (with shop bought pastry even though I normally make my own I make life easier at Christmas in this regard), ham croquettes, omelettes, sandwiches and general snacking.

From one meal comes many and I really like that!!!

We are having macaroni cheese. I'm sure someone on MN mentioned having pork with apple sauce in rolls, which sounded so nice. Once my DC is old enough, that's what we will be doing!

We have baked ham for those who eat pork, salmon for those who don't or veggie option of whatever individual veggie tarts etc look nicest that year. Cauliflower cheese, mash, roasted veggies. Lots of crusty bread and butter etc. It's basically lots of different things that we like best!

Great stuff @KimmyKimdoo sounds like you're on it. I haven't had scampi in ages, now you've mentioned it I'll have to pick some up for this week!

@KimmyKimdoo

DH hates fish pie / cottage pie/ shepherds pie 🙄 DCs don’t like jacket potatoes.

Maybe a lasagne is a good call! Or just a nice piece of fish!

I think they should decide and buy/cook and wash up.

We are having seafood medley

Starter - smoked salmon and cheese cheese rolls, mango and white fish ceviche, prosciutto wrapped scallops and prawn lobster Thermidor and salmon terrine.

Main - king crab and king lobster linguine

I put the order in with our local fisherman and can’t wait, there will be 14 of us.

My DD is only 8 so we are having her favourite pasta but in the shape of reindeers.

It's just bacon lardons with bourbon mixed through and roasted baby plum tomatoes cut in half on the top. It's her favourite.

I will have a bit of truffle cheese on mine also.

Boursin! Not bourbon!
