Anyone changing their Christmas plans now due to Omicron?

Starting to panic now. Got friends and their DC coming over to stay 20-21 Dec, another friend coming on the 22nd and hosting family 24-25 Dec.
Is it fair to cancel? Irresponsible to continue with plans?

@Bluesheep8

Many people on here had them more than a few weeks ago, I expect.

Still doesn't stop them catching and spreading it

I know, but that wasn’t the question in the post I was replying to 🤷🏻‍♀️
SirChenjins · 15/12/2021 12:53
@SirChenjins vaccinated people and those that follow the rules also get covid
I'm aware of that - why did you think I wasn't? It's far less likely that you'll catch it if you've had your 3 vaccinations and you distance/work remotely/wash your hands/etc etc though. All we can do at this stage is minimise the risks of spreading it.

Covidworries · 15/12/2021 12:53

@camq

Interesting link.
What is you% risk of death if contracting covid?
My childs is 3.5 % risk of death of covid
Which means she is 96.5 % likely to survive but more likely to need medical assistance. So the NHS being overwhelmed is a big concern to us

Twizbe · 15/12/2021 12:55

@CamQ very true.

In your 90s you can safely assume you've only got a few Christmases left anyway. Damned if I'd spend one alone if I didn't have to.

Twizbe · 15/12/2021 13:01

I'm sure I read that the Queen isn't cancelling her Christmas lunch this year.

nanbread · 15/12/2021 13:21

How people can still be quaking with fear is puzzling.

Personally I couldn't be quaking with fear less, but I AM quite keen to make sure I get to have the Christmas I planned, for my family's sake, and if going out less or only meeting up outdoors over the next week or so makes that more likely, then great.

Covid cases here aren't crazy, but they have gone up 20% in the past week and imagine they'll do the same in the following weeks as Omicron spreads

ditalini · 15/12/2021 13:29

We're still planning on travelling to my parents but will buy in back up Christmas dinner in case of symptoms/positive test between now and then.

DH is dodging his staff night out but isn't too bothered about it. Mine got cancelled. Otherwise we don't have many other plans involving lots of people but both DS's in school until the 22nd and DH in work until the 23rd so what will be will be.

Rosebel · 15/12/2021 14:18

No I'm not changing my plans at the moment. I've been triple jabbed and so have my parents. My husband has been double jabbed. Cases are high at my DCs school though so I'm praying they don't catch it, as they are only single jabbed.
Obviously if someone comes down with Covid things will change and we'll be testing in the run up to Christmas but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a normal Christmas.

worriedatthemoment · 15/12/2021 14:18

Maybe Boris

notanothertakeaway · 15/12/2021 20:18

We've changed our plans

My parents were due to visit, but that's been cancelled

MrsJBaptiste · 15/12/2021 20:56

But why?

Why would you not stick to your original ans and change them at the last minute if need be?

Did you watch the news today?

guardiansofthegalaxychocs · 15/12/2021 23:02

It amazes me how many people are putting themselves in voluntary lockdown.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 15/12/2021 23:42

i didnt have much planned, just my brother coming for christmas dinner and that wont change as otherwise hed be alone and i was his support bubble all through the lockdowns

1WeekTillChristmas · 16/12/2021 00:42

In your shoes, i would chose the one thats moat important and do that one

NoNotMeNoSiree · 16/12/2021 01:59

Same, we can't keep hiding from it, life has to keep going on.
NessieMcNessface · 16/12/2021 05:53

Christmas itself is going ahead for us as normal, but pre-Christmas plans are being curtailed sadly. I’ve cancelled all the socialising with friends leading up to Christmas in order to save Christmas itself, as whole family is coming to me. If I get COVID, I spoil Christmas for everyone so I’m desperately trying to avoid that scenario.

cptartapp · 16/12/2021 06:46

RIsk v benefit for us, we're going ahead.
My teens who are fully jabbed and for whom the dreadful return to online learning looks increasingly likely, can do what they want while they can.

Malibuismysecrethome · 16/12/2021 07:57

I think two years is enough to lose to Covid so I’m not changing anything. I’ll wear a mask, sanitise and I’m triple jabbed so believe you either trust in the vaccine or not.
However, most people are reluctant to meet up or socialise and anecdotally restaurants have been cancelled so plans are cancelled anyway. I’m just going with the flow for now.

She just did (or her pre-Christmas one anyhow)
WinnieTheW0rm · 16/12/2021 15:04

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 16/12/2021 16:03

There's a certain type of person that is putting themselves into voluntary isolation , because of the governments scare tactics , and that is what they are relying on.
Manage your own risks by all means but the rhetoric now is ''if I don't stay at home miserable I'm going to ruin the nhs'' - this is ludicrous .
The nhs has been in trouble for years now the government can blame it on the public instead of admitting they should have made this a priority years ago .
I wish I could go to a party every night leading up to Christmas , sadly I'm past it !!

TheHolyPotato · 16/12/2021 18:06

The Queen on message again.

UndertheCedartree · 16/12/2021 18:57

My DC have Christmas with their dad on the 27th and they go to his uncle's. He didn't want the DC over last year and has just announced he doesn't want them this year. The eldest has had the vaccine and I've offered for them to take LFT but no he's not interested. His choice at the end of the day.

UndertheCedartree · 16/12/2021 18:58

He is fine with my DC's dad and his mum coming, though.
