Anyone changing their Christmas plans now due to Omicron?

Starting to panic now. Got friends and their DC coming over to stay 20-21 Dec, another friend coming on the 22nd and hosting family 24-25 Dec.
Is it fair to cancel? Irresponsible to continue with plans?

Absolutely the only way we will be cancelling anything is if anyone in the family tests positive. I do have a turkey crown and frozen roast potatoes in the freezer just in case. But having spent last Christmas apart, I seriously worry about my mum's mental health if we're not together this year.

DappyApple · 13/12/2021 18:53

Nope carrying on as normal.

lastqueenofscotland · 13/12/2021 18:59

Planning on going to see family but if restrictions tighten I won’t risk any rule breaking. It’s an enourmous trip to attempt to be turned around.

Poppins17 · 13/12/2021 19:06

6 of us (3 households - all adults ) meant to be staying in a cottage from 24th to 28th December.

We will have all had boosters by then. Will do LFT and take them with us too.

Unfortunately whilst it may not be popular opinion, especially amongst NHS staff and others who have battled through this virus, but we may still go even if told not to.

We have followed the rules right the way through, but to see the Conservatives partying last year has really annoyed us, when we didn’t see each other due to suggested guidance, so this year I hope they don’t put rules in place, but even if they do we may still go ahead with our plans.

Do LFTs if your worried

ParkheadParadise · 13/12/2021 19:20

No, I'm not changing any plans.
I'm having my whole family for Christmas dinner.

LittleBabyCheeses · 13/12/2021 19:22

No, can’t wait to see all of my lovely family Smile. We never know how many Christmas’s we have left.

SirChenjins · 13/12/2021 19:25

MIL is 90 and has no desire to end her life with covid (or even catch it) so is staying in her own home on her own. DD is working on the wards on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and they’re hoping that the a-holes who don’t vaccinate/distance/wear masks etc stay well away. We’ll have DS and his GF for Christmas lunch, but that’s it.

DialsMavis · 13/12/2021 19:27

I think my DMum is going to bottle out of having us over. We have a DC at primary where Covid is rife and has been for weeks and another DC home from uni. They missed their 18th over Christmas last year and I refuse to guilt trip them into curtailing socialising this year.

bananaboats · 13/12/2021 19:38

Def not cancelling any plans here

Twizbe · 13/12/2021 19:41

@Poppins17 me too. Last Christmas was horrific for me because of those restrictions. No sodding way am I doing it again.

Poppins17 · 13/12/2021 19:44

Enjoy your Christmas @Twizbe!

Babdoc · 13/12/2021 19:48

Wow, you're a cannibal with a hearty appetite, ParkheadParadise!
I'm just having a turkey for mine...Grin

tiredanddangerous · 13/12/2021 19:49

I would be happy to carry on with our plans but unfortunately my DPs have decided to uninvite us because they're worried. I feel a bit shit about it to be honest because they're both in good health in their late sixties and have had their boosters. They've missed two years of their grandchildren's lives now which is such a shame.

Thegreencup · 13/12/2021 19:52

I wasn't really planning any big get togethers anyway. But we are sticking to plans. We will see family on boxing day as planned.

Covid cases have only risen 5% today. Its not like they have doubled overnight.

Mummyme87 · 13/12/2021 19:57

No, not changing plans. Me and OH triple vaxxed, kids will finish school Thursday/Friday. I currently have covid and end iso on Wednesday night.

We are going up to family in Northumberland, everyone we will see is also triple vaxxed. Didn’t get to go to family last year due to lockdown and I had covid, hell am I cancelling this year

ParkheadParadise · 13/12/2021 20:15

@Babdoc
18 whole humans 😂😂
Having the kids for starters.

GinIronic · 13/12/2021 20:17

Nope. Carry on Christmas.

Babdoc · 13/12/2021 20:19

Lol, ParkheadParadise! I love children, but I couldn't eat a whole one...

AdoraBell · 13/12/2021 20:27

Not so far but both DDs are away at Uni, one in England and one in Wales.

DH is planning to visit FIL next week just in case we get locked down at Christmas.

IgneousRock · 13/12/2021 21:10

We're hosting family on Xmas day (15 in total). We're not planning to cancel, but some of the guests are over 80 or CEV and I won't be surprised if they pull out. No hard feelings if so.

Annotherchange · 13/12/2021 21:12

Yes we are changing plans here, cancelling a NYE party and a pre Christmas get together. Biting my tongue to my friends who think I am over reacting.

wasthataburp · 13/12/2021 21:14

No absolutely not changing any plans at all. (Unless of course one of us becomes actually unwell). No reason to cancel plans at all, all the older adults in the family are vaccinated etc
