Anyone changing their Christmas plans now due to Omicron?

Starting to panic now. Got friends and their DC coming over to stay 20-21 Dec, another friend coming on the 22nd and hosting family 24-25 Dec.
Is it fair to cancel? Irresponsible to continue with plans?

I'd get them to test before coming.

LegoPandemic · 13/12/2021 17:10

More worried about New Year as was planning a big gathering.
We will do LFTs before meeting up over the holidays.

Iggly · 13/12/2021 17:12

No, but everyone is as vaccinated as they can be. We are wfh now and it’s just a case of seeing what happens with the kids. We are keeping socialising to a minimum before Christmas itself.

We will also test in the run up. And any hint of symptoms and we will get PCRs.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 13/12/2021 17:13

Id just get them to LFT right before they come. Any sign of a cough or sniffle and I would ask them to stay home.

I would give them advanced warning of your stance though and just clarify with them that they're still even comfortable coming over

MeanderingGently · 13/12/2021 17:19

No, not at all. We're all fully vaccinated and many of us are also booster jabbed too.
We wear masks, some of us WFH and some are retired and go nowhere except Tesco (in a mask/gloves).
Why would we change our plans? We've done our bit, use LFT regularly and would like a decent Christmas. If someone gets COVID, obviously they aren't coming, but unless legally banned, I can't see the point of cancelling anything.

lazylinguist · 13/12/2021 17:35

Nope. All the adults will have had their boosters. All adults and kids will do LFTs. We're not cancelling anything. I wouldn't be that surprised if PIL cancelled though (and we're supposed to be staying 3 nights at theirs, which is 4 hrs away, so if they cancel, our Christmas is effectively cancelled too!). We're hosting for NY.

thatsallineed · 13/12/2021 17:38

It is just going to be the four of us here anyway, plus a very elderly (95+) relative who we support in living independently and see her nearly every day anyway. So she will be coming to us unless she decides to stay at home on her own, which is what she did last year.

BHX3000 · 13/12/2021 17:39

Nope. I’ll be boosted and family I’m staying with have just had Covid. I’m working in very close contact with others in the run up to NYE though, and we’re getting extra tests during those days, but don’t expect anything to change.

LizzieSiddal · 13/12/2021 17:40

I’m watching and waiting until the weekend, incase other info comes out. We have my 76 year old mum coming to stay, 2 Dds and partners and PIL, coming on Xmas day. MIL had cancer so I’m not sure what to do but the new variant is worrying me.

PIL were on their own last year and we thought this year would be different. Sad

LizzieSiddal · 13/12/2021 17:40

*has cancer

Twizbe · 13/12/2021 17:42

Deja vu .... sure we were having the same conversations last year.

Personally I'd go ahead until they tell you not to... then do it anyway.

BlackCatz · 13/12/2021 17:42

Nope.

Will be seeing the in-laws Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Down to my DM on Boxing Day for lunch and drinks out.

Can't wait.

Snuggledupforwinter · 13/12/2021 17:45

We've all been boosted and have asked them to do a LF before travelling to us as we have family members who we'll see who are very frail (not COVID).

Eightandahalfyears · 13/12/2021 17:50

Nope. All vaccinated, most of us have had boosters. All older adults have had Covid too. We will be seeing people/going out as we had planned.

pizzaobsessed · 13/12/2021 17:52

No not a chance. All fully vaccinated so we'll continue as planned

Echobelly · 13/12/2021 17:55

I don't really have any, as don't celebrate. We are going to have ILs over on Xmas day anyway, and see my parents on Boxing Day (all local, so it's not like we don't see one another often and not big deal).

Going to lunch with teammates at work - office now closed by we can still have lunch. It's just 5 of us at a restaurant that's pretty quiet, so I'll take my chances. Got ballet tickets as a friend had spares on 20th and probably will risk it as it's so expensive - but at least it's mostly people sitting still and should be wearing masks now. And we're not seeing anyone for a few days after that and DH and I don't have to work outside house. Can chance 'missing Christmas' because we'll get COVID sooner or later and having it over Xmas isn't going to ruin our year like it would for some people.

Lipsandlashes · 13/12/2021 17:58

Nope. All double vaccinated and now all had our boosters. The govt didn’t seem too bothered last year - when we didn’t even have the protection of vaccinations!
I do wonder who in their right mind would be willing to sacrifice another Christmas with their family, when those making the rules evidently don’t give a shit?

NMC2022 · 13/12/2021 18:00

Yes. Was meant to be having a meal out with my parents and cancelled as CEV

Squirrelblanket · 13/12/2021 18:06

Nope, we're doing what we want. Same as last year.

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2021 18:13

Watching and waiting with fingers crossed. DP and I are set to go on holiday (UK); we're going by train, and would do a supermarket shop, but other than that just staying in an Airbnb on our own, going for beach walks etc, so we'd be quite safe. But we'd be buggered, obviously, if a full lockdown was imposed again.

Hairwizard · 13/12/2021 18:23

No.
Business as usual here. Same as last year.

DSGR · 13/12/2021 18:24

Nope, happy with boosters and lateral flows. Life goes on

Nidan2Sandan · 13/12/2021 18:35

Nope, will be carrying ones usual.

AgathaAllAlong · 13/12/2021 18:49

I'll do everything I was planning, but will happily take LFT galore.
