Anyone changing their Christmas plans now due to Omicron?

Starting to panic now. Got friends and their DC coming over to stay 20-21 Dec, another friend coming on the 22nd and hosting family 24-25 Dec.
Is it fair to cancel? Irresponsible to continue with plans?

We have as we were going to spend Christmas in my home country. But with the testing requirements and fear of getting stuck there because one of us gets Covid whilst we're away, we've decided not to go.

Helpstopthepain · 14/12/2021 08:07

We haven’t cancelled anything so far but I am beginning to worry.

FlipFlops4Me · 14/12/2021 08:14

No. There's only 5 of us and of those the three of us who are older are triple jabbed, and the other 2 are double jabbed (will be getting the third asap).

Autumn101 · 14/12/2021 08:20

I am considering cancelling plans for this weekend, meant to be at a party…… If our Xmas plans could be easily rearranged I would still go but ILs are flying over and staying for a week, we haven’t seen them in 2.5 years so I just don’t want risk anything!

PrincessNutNuts · 14/12/2021 08:23

We did family Christmas last weekend.

@PrincessNutNuts

We did family Christmas last weekend.
Ah how lovely. Not everyone can just reschedule family Christmas though. The only day we all have off together in December and Jan is Christmas Day, so we’ll be having it then Smile.
StCharlotte · 14/12/2021 08:44

Not planning anything different. Five out of six are triple vaxxed. The sixth works in a primary school but she always does an LFT when she sees her 90 yo grandma (who is one of the five) anyway.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 14/12/2021 09:08

Hoping to go ahead as previously planned, but also have back up plans for a scaled back or all-at-home Christmas.

One night out planned for this week (meal and theatre). All sensible precautions will be taken, but not tempted to cancel.

LadyCatStark · 14/12/2021 09:22

Not changing any plans. My mum, sister, BIL nieces and I have all had covid so that’s most of us and we were all fine. PILs have been very careful but even they won’t cancel.

KateInHappyland · 14/12/2021 09:40

No. DH and I will be going to stay with my mum, who lives alone. That was the plan and we’re sticking with it.

Twobigsapphires · 14/12/2021 11:03

Seems the majority are going ahead. I’m high risk but triple vaccinated and booster. Both Dh and I have been wfh but have 3 teens at school / college. One vaxxed, two not but all 3 have had covid. We haven’t.

Out of all visiting family and friends 4 work in schools / nhs and 3 kids / teens all at school unvaccinated. Party also includes 2 adults who have had covid but not been vaccinated. I really don’t want to cancel at all, just worried I’m putting myself at greater risk I guess.

Surely this isn’t just about if there’s a lockdown?

Even if there isn’t a lockdown, why would anyone want to mix with groups and groups of people when omicron infections are doubling every two days and the bigger your group, the higher the likelihood that one of you will have it and the rest will catch it?

This isn’t just about the government imposing restrictions, it’s about having common sense and taking personal responsibility. Or do people need to live in a nanny state and be told what they should do rather than doing it for themselves?

I just have my DP and DS for Christmas anyway so no changes. Personally I wouldn’t be hosting or going to places where there are large groups of people who are all going to be mixing with multiple other groups of people.I am high risk but even if not it just is common sense not to.

LittleBabyCheeses · 14/12/2021 11:20

Or do people need to live in a nanny state and be told what they should do rather than doing it for themselves?

Not at all. Which is exactly why I’ll be seeing my triple jabbed, low risk family whether there is a lockdown or not.

SeaKingdom · 14/12/2021 11:21

If things continue as they are with no social restrictions, we will go ahead with our family plans on Christmas Day and Boxing Day involving my parents, two sisters, and children.

In the run up to Christmas I have two meals out booked with friends this week and will probably still do that, but will see how it goes and how people are feeling. We are also going to the zoo with friends next week.

What I am changing is the fact that I had planned to book a lot more activities for the children between breaking up and Christmas day, like ice skating and cinema. Instead we will try to do those things after Christmas if possible.

Didiplanthis · 14/12/2021 11:24

I'm happy to proceed as planned but am supportive of my elderly dad not coming to stay if he is worrying about it.

Twizbe · 14/12/2021 11:46

@AlternativePerspective I have no fear of catching it. I'm double jabbed and have had original covid and Delta covid. Didn't need any treatment with either. if I were to catch this, I'd likely be very mildly poorly, if at all.

The same goes for my family, and as it's just the of us this year there's no reason to suddenly stop enjoying ourselves and living life.

Last Christmas was horrific. I cannot stress how horrible a time it was for me. I'm NEVER going through that again. I will enjoy my festive season.

Twixxed · 14/12/2021 11:55

We've cancelled some pre-Christmas friend plans in order to prioritise seeing our families. I'm not particularly worried about the effects of covid if we catch it but I don't want our family plans ruined by isolation.

Onthegrid · 14/12/2021 12:05

We have one DC already back from uni, they came a week early as they had been ill (not covid) and were told to rest not party by Dr. AnOther is in Scotland and works in hospitality they are scheduled to come down for 4 days by train, we will see if that happens.
Apart from that we have 7 events or get together planned starting from this Saturday and not cancelled any yet, however we are keeping everything fluid, and are prepared to change.
LFTs will be used.

HunterGatherer · 14/12/2021 12:07

Bit worried that my 3 DC won't make it home from uni. Sad

MrsDThomas · 14/12/2021 12:09

Now, certainly not. Life goes on.

goose1964 · 14/12/2021 12:26

We've all had our boosters and our area is better than most for low figures

Lockeddownagain · 14/12/2021 12:39

I've canceled everything I don't want my daughter to miss xmas day with her cousins so I'm doing nothing

nanbread · 14/12/2021 13:25

Same. We're keeping it low key except for family stuff.
DSGR · 14/12/2021 13:35

@AlternativePerspective because I’m not worried. I’ve had every vaccine going and have also had Covid. I’m fairly sure I’m not going to get seriously I’ll and I’m not high risk

Jumpingintochristmas · 14/12/2021 13:45

Friend just cancelled a dinner party at her house on Friday night.

We have plans the rest of the weekend, hoping they go ahead.
