Will DD notice the same wrapping paper from Santa and me?

Feeling very smug that I've already bought and wrapped all presents (this has never happened so early in December before).
However, I've realised all presents are wrapped in the same paper - the presents we're giving family, the presents from Santa and the presents to DD from us.
She's 6 - will she notice? My mum thinks I should rewrap her presents from Santa but I think that's a total waste of wrapping paper.
Thoughts?

Last year my just turned three year old noticed that Father Christmas had bought her some stuff (stocking fillers) from Tesco🤦‍♀️, so yes, your dd wll probably notice the wrapping paper!

Steelesauce · 13/12/2021 18:11

Just me who sends wrapping paper to santa? I send money to him too for the presents to save on the 'why can't I have xxx like xxx?'. My eldest clicked this year at 9 so I think I've done alright with it Grin

reallyagain · 13/12/2021 18:16

I always wrapped Santa's presents in different paper for this reason

Figgygal · 13/12/2021 18:38

Yup epic fail you need to rewrap

Moon22 · 13/12/2021 18:46

Would it work for you to make a thing of the wrapping paper on christmas eve? The mince pie or whatever gets left out and the wrapping paper goes up the chimney for santa to use! You can all make a wish or something! Just an idea.. don't hate on me too much mumsnet lol!

Dixiechickonhols · 13/12/2021 19:08

Yes. Mine would have. If you want another year or two of believing in Santa it’s not worth risk. I always bought some Santa paper.

mam0918 · 13/12/2021 19:34

@Earwigworries

Kids can be really oblivious … I wrote a card on behalf of my dad for DS2 ..11 … and he didn’t notice
but your dad does exist right?

He's not some illogical mythical creature whose whimsy is balancing on a thread.

  • no one pays attention to cards, they usually say:

To X
Happy birthday/Merry Christmas/Have a great day etc...
Love from Y

no one is analysing handwriting on that lol.

SamMil · 13/12/2021 19:42

My mum just used to say that Father Christmas borrowed some of her wrapping paper Xmas Blush

I wouldn't worry too much!

Doorhandleghost · 13/12/2021 19:51

Yeah my DD would notice that. Deffo re wrap.

DSGR · 13/12/2021 19:54

I tell the kids I leave paper out for Santa in case he runs out

Lulu1919 · 13/12/2021 19:57

Re wrap
Father Christmas always has different paper in our house and my children are adults !!!!

Doofas · 13/12/2021 20:02

My mum used to save the paper from the previous years presents to use for sticking presents the next year. We never cottoned on until we were much older! I think if it's worrying you it might be worth some rewrapping just to ease your worry. Only u only your child well enough to know if the same wrapping paper is enough of a clue for them and only you know your family well enough to know if it's that a bigger problem of they work out about Santa! It son knows about him and often find the stockings so wrapping paper, which is often brown paper didn't matter so much. Go with your gut

Mummabug18 · 13/12/2021 20:05

Husband and I were talking about this yesterday as our eldest is 3.5y and super observant. So, to tackle this and other issues, like Santa presents in coming years, we have decided on brown paper with plain ribbon and batch buying Santa labels. We will only give 1 gift every year from Santa for our 2 kids, even if we had another which we are certainly not planning on, we would have plenty if we had, say, 20 labels to last us til they both know the truth. Brown paper and plain ribbon will always be easy to rebuy.

RainbowPhilosophy · 13/12/2021 20:11

@clartins

This is ridiculous, she won’t notice! Relax, stop overthinking and enjoy Christmas.
My 4yo has already made a comment to me about how he hopes Santa uses the same wrapping paper this year (and described it perfectly) so he remembers what "Santa's" paper was when he was only 3. So yes I'm afraid I think a 6yo would definitely notice.
GrandmasCat · 13/12/2021 20:37

I don’t know, I changed the colour of my front door a few years ago and my son didn’t notice until 3 years later.

I used to trek out to somewhere like ikea twenty miles away to get paper she wouldn't recognise. Then one year I risked getting m and s paper on sale.
It was so beautiful went to start wrapping and there previously hidden were horrrid mathematical type lines, and m and s cut here all vandalising the inside of the beautiful paper.

It was awful!

I genuinely can’t believe the pressure that so many things parents put on themselves regarding this. Scared that their children will remember last year’s wrapping or question that the same paper is used. Yet delivering gifts to every child in one evening is plausible and a man coming into your home when there’s no chimney is readily explained. Reading these replies I’m glad that I never gave my children gifts from Santa. I didn’t even realise it was a thing until today so I suppose I should thank my parents for not doing it with us either. I do love Christmas, my children love Christmas and they know who their gifts were actually from writing their thank you notes to everyone afterwards. It’s a magical time but why overcomplicate your life. I don’t have a problem with other people’s traditions but to rewrap what appears to be numerous gifts seems overkill.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/12/2021 21:35

Exactly, clartins

People complain Christmas is a lot work, yet they do pointless shit like this. Insanity.

lollipoprainbow · 13/12/2021 21:38

I did when I was little, my mum said I said 'oh Father Christmas has the same wrapping paper as us' !!

teraculum29 · 13/12/2021 22:01

As a mum of 6year old girl, yes you need to re wrap the presents.
If your DD is anything like mine, she will not miss anything, and will remember for ever ever Amen.

Newmumatlast · 13/12/2021 22:20

@clartins

Or alternatively re tag them so they’re from who actually bought them rather than Santa. I thought he just delivered gifts I didn’t realise he gave them. My DC never had a gift from Santa and they’ve turned out just fine.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 13/12/2021 23:09

Rewrap if possible
Otherwise go with PP suggestion that he borrowed your wrapping paper
In that case just rewrap a couple and on one of them leave a gap to show he ran out!
Yes, it’s hassle but they do notice the same wrapping paper and it’s such a short window of belief before they grow up that it’s worth it

pollysshoe · 13/12/2021 23:14

Leave a postcard sitting out with piece of wrapping paper stuck to it and Santa's address on.

Wait for your DD to ask what it is and tell her you're sending it to Santa so he can get matching paper.
