me

honestly what IS all the fuss about

It is ONE DAY

The shops are shut for ONE DAY (or two in some places I guess)

You CAN wear normal clothes you know, you don't have to look like Dame Edna

It is JUST A ROAST
Nothing to get your knickers in a twist about

I'm not in a fuss and I refuse to wear shiny things!

thehollyandtheivy · 17/12/2007 20:05

And if you haven't bought everyone the gifts they wanted, there's always the sales starting boxing day!
I'm so not stressing about it, someone asked me today, if I was ready for next week, I just looked blank, having forgotten what next week is!

CarmenerryChristmas · 17/12/2007 20:06

Me. I am very excited as I am getting to spend it with my family in Ireland for the first time in 5 years but as for the rest of the fuss, I generally don't buy into it.

I will be wearing a nice dress but that is because I am going to a swanky dinner party ie Christmas dinner in my dsis's house

Wotz · 17/12/2007 20:06

spandex or tin foil, you have to.

CountessDraculaboredofxmasname · 17/12/2007 20:07

Yes I will wear a dress but it doesn't have to be (a) new or (b) look like something the fairy on the tree should wear, does it?

OP posts:
Wotz · 17/12/2007 20:07

yes, of course, and it should light up

Tamum · 17/12/2007 20:07

Well me, but dh does the turkey stuff. It has honestly never crossed my mind to think about what I will wear until I get up that morning. Certainly not shiny.

expatinscotland · 17/12/2007 20:08

not in a panic at all.

it's about a good time with the family.

we'll be out going for a hike no matter what the weather.

no shiny things here, it's freezing and far more comfortable to stay warm.

pantoinghousewife · 17/12/2007 20:09

I do love shiny things but I don't generally wear them on Christmas day. I will open the wardrobe on Christmas morning and see what jumps out on me. Same as I do every morning.

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 17/12/2007 20:10

Expat I thought sparkly tops and glittery sandals were the thing to wear for hiking in the Highlands

Wotz · 17/12/2007 20:10

crocs and socks I thought, maybe that was another hobbie.

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 17/12/2007 20:10

no, and I don't get all the fuss either really, or the great spending, or the worry over the food.

Agree it is ONE DAY and the best thing to do is to relax and enjoy it.

CarmenerryChristmas · 17/12/2007 20:11

I am wearing black cocktail dress as I bought for a function it a couple of months ago and it was a bit extravagant and I talked myself into it by saying I'd wear it on Christmas day. It is nice and understated nt strappy or glitzy or anything like that.

Wotz · 17/12/2007 20:11

cod now has protoges

RudolphtheredROSEreindeer · 17/12/2007 20:12

Hate HAte HAte all this shitty shiny gold lame stuff about!, will be wearing something i bought last year for night out on Sat, got tow jumpers couple of weeks ago, one has been kept for Christmas day, but just a stripy jumper(not even a fluffy reindeer in site!) and..now dont be too shocked...contrary to everyone else on here..i havent bough A THING in yet for christmas dinner!..i will buy chicken breast (cant be arsed with a bird), joint of gammon, roasties, peas carrots, puddings, gravy and stuffing this thiursday..if they dont have sprouts i wont have a nervous break down like some were doing in my local supermarket last year!
Ill stick it all in when we get up to open pressies and eat it when its ready!..first year weve got to ourselves, so no fuss this year nice and chilled!

deckthehallswithFEETofTIGERs · 17/12/2007 20:12

I can't wait

Just me, dh and dd on Christmas Day

I might not bother getting dressed at all [slattern] so my knickers can't get all twisted because I won't be wearing any

I love cooking so roast dinner not a problem

All shops shut here for two days but I rather suspect that we won't starve in that time

I am looking forward to a restful day

Astrophe · 17/12/2007 20:13

friends of mine are stressing because they have so little time, but simply must get to the shops to get themselves and the DC new Christmas outfits...huh?

YuleLoveHekateAtSolstice · 17/12/2007 20:14

Nope. Not panicked. everything's done. All taken care of. Looking forward to it.

SenoraPostrophe · 17/12/2007 20:15

what sort of shiny clothes?

yurt1 · 17/12/2007 20:15

I'm chilled. Shopping is done. Have some Xmas cards to write, but work stuff to do beforehand, bought the stamps- will sit down and do them after Wednesday. Xmas day we're opening presents then I'm leaving dh with insanely excited ds2 and ds3 and heading up to Dartmoor for a few hours with ds1- whatever the weather. We'll come back to mulled wine and I'm doing a big buffet type spread. Boxing Day my Mum's cooking Christmas dinner (she's working Christmas day). I'm actually looking forward to it this year.

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 17/12/2007 20:15

actually I don't really get dressing up on xmas day, unless you are going out

we are still undecided about where we are going to spend xmas-at home or with parents-but bloody hell, if we are at home it will certainly be a pyjamas day, aside from a brief foray to the park in woolly jumpers.

pantoinghousewife · 17/12/2007 20:17

Despite having my parents and his here, I feel serenely unstressed by it. I will prepare the dinner Christmas Eve and then xmas day I will cook it. Job done.

saltirehangingonachristmastree · 17/12/2007 20:18

Rudolph I know what you mean about people stressing over veg! Last year DH ahd to go to Tescos on christmas Eve (I refused to go) and he was gone for 2 hours. When he got back he said 2 women had got in a fight ove rparsnips, and it got physical and the police were called and he and others had to give statements!. Of course he probably didn't help the situation by telling them there were tons of frozen ones!

Its just DH, the Dses and myself this year. I'm working Christmas Eve and Boxing Day (who in their right mind goes shopping on Boxing Day?) and we aren't ahving Turkey as I refused to apy the prices for large turkey that would get wasted. We are having chicken, Roast veg and stuffing and the little sausages with bacon round them (currently in the freezer) As for clothes, probably jeans and a top as usual!

Bauble99 · 17/12/2007 20:21

I agree, CD.

I also hate....'Oooh! ...Are you ready for Christmas?'
