me

honestly what IS all the fuss about

It is ONE DAY

The shops are shut for ONE DAY (or two in some places I guess)

You CAN wear normal clothes you know, you don't have to look like Dame Edna

It is JUST A ROAST
Nothing to get your knickers in a twist about

Oh I agree CD.
The flap is a sad indictemnet of the fact that the evarage Brit now finds peeling a few potatoes and slinging some poultry into an oven is too complicated.

Madness I tell you,madness.

What will be on the menu in the Dracula household? Will you put that nutmeg syrup to good use??

Bauble99 · 17/12/2007 22:10

Ah! But Strawb. I bet it's got sequins on?

My mum (gawd bless her), who is not known for her sunny disposition, has a habit of wearing 'jolly' Christmas dangly earrings.

The contrast of those, the paper hat and the 'joy to the world' expression sitting underneath them is not uplifting.

eidsvold · 17/12/2007 22:13

oh goodness - no shiny clothing here unless it is swimwear - too bloody hot to be wearing shiny!!

everything is sorted so far - just dh to sort out and we have decided to wait until we see something we really want.

me

(although would quite like to channel Dame Edna once in a while)

phdlifeneedsanewlife · 17/12/2007 22:20

come, come eidsvold - every Christmas I ever had in Brissie, we were aaaallllll shiny, shiny red faces, shiny shiny shiny, specially if anyone was fool enough to cook indoors! But I agree - no shiny clothing.

SleighlyMadSanta · 17/12/2007 22:23

I am not in a panic... I know that DP will have it all under control .

I will wear PJs until about n hour before lunch at which point I will probably put a tracky on.

DDs will wear standard stuff out of there wardrobe.

In fact I shalln't wear a single shiny (or sily or lacy or velvety or any other sort of dressy item) over any of the festive period...

eidsvold · 17/12/2007 22:24

oh forgot about the faces - we all look like this [frangry] especially this year - 31 with very high humidity and afternoon/evening storms!!

eidsvold · 17/12/2007 22:25

oops like this

pinetreedog · 17/12/2007 22:29

I am not in a fuss.

I would get no pleasure from wearing a stylish outfit, only to sit on my fat arse with bloated stomach next to a fake coal fire in staggeringly high temperatures talking inanities with relatives. So I don't trouble myself to think of a special Christmas day outfit, no.

phdlifeneedsanewlife · 17/12/2007 22:40

yep, that sounds/looks more like it

lovecamping · 17/12/2007 22:42

i'm not in a panic because i've done all the presents, written & posted cards and going to my mother's so no cooking for me!!!

almost looking forward to it....

MyChemicalToilet · 17/12/2007 23:22

I'm starting shopping on Saturday. I guess Tesco will be bereft of sprouts? Shame, never mind.

Mind you, I will be upset if no parsnips around.

pollywollybauble · 17/12/2007 23:37

no ho ho shiny things on me, not with my norks and tum....people will start putting presents under me...

whatever clothes are comfy and have room for expansion for all the family....not sure what time dinner will be or what we are having....

presents are mainly sorted and nearly all wrapped...if any don't arrive in time our family tradition is to cut a piccie of item out of a catalogue and stick it on a card as an iou....

not sent any cards yet apart from the ones dd made and dh said were essential, may well not send any more...will see how the time goes...

merry christmas!!!

snowfunwhenyoureknackered · 18/12/2007 07:48

agree!

Astrophe · 18/12/2007 13:16

I overheard two women today who were in a flap because they wanted - get this - a mobile oven cleaning van to come to their homes to clean their ovens before Christmas, and they were all booked up !!!!Made me LOL, then had to quickly look away and pretend I hadn't been eaves dropping!

needmorecoffee · 18/12/2007 13:18

Is one meant to wear shiny things? Don't own any. I don't fuss about Xmas, just make sure we don't run out of bogroll. Its a day like every other except we wont get any respite care for dd bah humbug

ruty · 18/12/2007 13:20

we get very small token presents for adults and then proper [but not over twenty quid] presents for the children. Ds will get one big present, under fifty quid. I hate the commercialization of Christmas. Just been in Germany and it is much more low key and less commercial, though very festive. Yes, it is just a roast! Afer so many stressful family Christmases in the past I refuse to get worked up about it any more.

GooseyLoosey · 18/12/2007 13:20

me - infact we win't actually be having christmas on christmas day (as much loved family can't get here until boxing day so we wait till 27th - santa makes a special visit!). I will therefore be totally and completely relaxed on 25th. Last year, did the same and ran a haven for stressed friends on 25th - they drank coffee at my house while their other halves cooked dinner!

EniDeepMidwinter · 18/12/2007 13:21

I will be wearing shiny clothes and I love xmas but am not in a panic about it

paulaplumpbottom · 18/12/2007 13:22

Do you mean shiny as in cheap fabric?
