Anyone getting the stealth bagging tree pics on social media?

My Facebook feed has suddenly become awash of beautifully and artfully decorated Christmas trees with a caption along the line of, "my friends have said this is boring and sterile... 😢" or "I can't be bothered this year, let the kids throw it all on."
These trees literally could have come out a JL shop window, it's silly stealth bragging. Grin

(Disclaimer - this is lighthearted! I'm slightly jealous of the fancy trees!)

Nope. All of mine have normal captions like "tree's up!" Or "Sophie and Alfie had fun decorating the tree"

EllieSattler · 06/12/2021 08:00

I'm surprised because I thought the government had passed a law making it mandatory to caption all Christmas tree photos with "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" :)

lazylinguist · 06/12/2021 08:03

No. But I never see bragging or stealth bragging posts on FB tbh. I just don't seem to have any FB friends who do that, thankfully. I realise that in itself sounds a bit like bragging Grin.

Pegasussnail · 06/12/2021 08:05

I just snooze these kind of people
Our tree fell down during the night and it took a while to hoover dry up the pool of water. I might now even put the baubles back on Hmm

Pegasussnail · 06/12/2021 08:05

Not

@HerbivorousRex

Sorry, I posted on the wrong thread!

I did think your post was a bit odd 😂😂😂😂

PanettoneSeason · 06/12/2021 08:39

I love seeing people’s trees 🤣 I’m nosey though 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣
Last year I sent messages to 2 people asking if they minded telling me where certain beautiful tree decorations were from 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 I like it, I want it, I have no shame - I’ll happily ask 🤣

Jumpingintochristmas · 06/12/2021 08:43

I don’t see any harm.

SylviaTrench · 06/12/2021 08:52

There's a tree thread on here, on the Christmas board.
No one has a boring/sterile/ colour-themed tree. Everyone has, apparently, curated an eclectic selection of decorations, each one holding a special memory. I think the winner was someone who has a piece of rock from the moon, rolled in glitter.

threebillboards · 06/12/2021 09:07

My news feed has that type of tosser weeded out long ago. Just get normal ones of pretty, but average trees.

Thefuturestory · 06/12/2021 09:10

Luckily I have no friends who do such fuckery.

I have had a neighbour ask me to do hers though!

SeasonFinale · 06/12/2021 09:13

I am another one who enjoys seeing the trees. Shame on me then.

Goshitstricky · 06/12/2021 09:29

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing peoples trees and decorations (and food!) it's the obvious attempt to have people post how wonderful it is by using either self deprecation or claiming someone else has said it's shit.
I'm all for an obvious brag Grin or a simple "LOOK AT MY TREE!" and I will dutifully reply to say how great it looks. It just made me roll my eyes and chuckle at the pristine colourful bauble placements and garlands and lights that people are claiming "someone said it looks sterile and boring" when that In fact, clearly did not happen.

are you sure it's moon rock rolled in glitter ? 😂😂😂😂
Werehamster · 06/12/2021 10:49

Humble bragging!

I am always tempted to reply "It doesn't matter if it looks a bit crap, it's still very festive".

i never do though.

Bluntness100 · 06/12/2021 10:50

I don’t know anyone who does this, odd you’ve so many folks at it.

Forgetaboutme · 06/12/2021 10:55

I always figure people who do that sort of post are genuinely insecure or perfectionists who need reassurance so i see nothing wrong with people bigging them up.

I had one pal phrase it like 'will adjust a few ornaments when the kids go to bed'. Her tree looked great.

I love trees and seeings other peoples decorations. All are special in their own way.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 06/12/2021 11:00

Mine’s currently lying in bits on the stairs because I just lobbed it out of the loft.

Now lying down because that kind of activity has left me exhausted.

Even the backs of my knees are sweating.

Brilliant! Dh has a bit of the Berlin Wall. I might throw some glitter over it and hang it on our (as yet non-existent!) tree. Is that eclectic enough? Grin

godmum56 · 06/12/2021 11:14

I thought "stealth bagging trees" was a new kind of theft of outdoor decorations Grin

Nidan2Sandan · 06/12/2021 11:45

Mine is either full of people who have a host of individual tree decorations, all bought from a nice place with a special memory attached or people who buy new decorations every year depending on what the "in" colour scheme or look is that year.

Both looks are beautiful, but all too much hard work for me. I bought a box set of red and gold baubles from B&M years ago when we bought our first house and 16 years on they're still going strong (albeit looking a bit more battered).

TheVanguardSix · 06/12/2021 11:51

Not one of my friends has posted a tree or menorah pic. It's very unchristmassy/unfestive in my social media world.
