Where are you from and what does Santa bring?

We live in Scotland and Santa brings everything that arrives on Christmas Day, family/friends who bring gifts before or after are from them. I don’t know another Scottish person who does it differently.

I see often on here that Santa only brings one gift, stocking gifts or few but not everything etc.

I wonder if it’s a cultural thing within the UK (or wider)?

So where are you and what does the big man in the red suit bring?

South of England. Santa brings a sack/stocking of small gifts. Gifts under the tree are from parents/family/friends and are the ‘main’ presents.

I grew up in Wales and Father Christmas brought everything, except presents from other family members.

We're closer to London now and FC brings a sack of presents (which fills up easily as they're young and presents are bulkier) and a stocking. DH and I buy everything else, as well as the more expensive main gift. Primarily because there's no other way to explain to my DC why some of their friends don't get as much.

Yorkshire.. Father Christmas fills the stockings and brings smaller things. The rest are from family.

I’m from Norfolk. I did the same with my kids that my parents did with me. Santa gave us stockings and everything else was from whoever bought it although by magic Santa still delivered those as we all told him what to make

South East. Father Christmas fills stockings only.
Anything else gets far too complicated.

Scotland

As a child, Santa brought us everything except from aunts and uncles etc.

With my kids we give them their big present but Santa brings a (substantial) sack of things. I don't know how other families do it. I've never asked.

I’m on the South East. We call him Father Christmas in my family (though DD thought he was ‘Farmer Christmas’ when she was little).

He brings the stocking presents and then one or two of the presents under the tree. All the others are from us or ILs etc.

South east - Santa brings loads of presents in a sack and little presents in stocking. One “main”‘present from parents and then other bits from aunties uncles etc

SE England. Santa brings stockings and that's it. Everything else is from who it is from and goes under the tree whenever it is ready.

Fortunately DH had the same experience. I'd imagine it's quite a difficulty if two parents want to do things very differently.

Scotland here, dh said all presents growing up were from Santa. For me it was mixed, some Santa's some parents although I think I knew it was all from them.

With out ds, we do a couple/few inexpensive ones from Santa and the rest from us. Dh feels the jolly fat man (his words!) shouldn't get all the credit. I feel that for parents who can't afford their children could feel that Santa didn't think they'd been good etc when Santa brings others loads.

Santa and what he's going to bring causes ds a lot of anxiety (autism), it would be so much easier to explain that he won't miss out or help him with the surprise element if he didn't believe!

Scotland. In the 70s, Santa bought everything bar gifts from aunts and uncles etc.

With our DC, Santa brings the stocking and one gift.

New Zealand. Santa brings one big present (a bike etc type thing). Other presents from mum& dad/ family. No stockings.

When we lived in Wales Santa brings everything, except gifts given by relatives and friends, that's from them.
In the north west now and we carry that on for our son, but I do know someone who says Santa only brings a few things and they do all the "good stuff" as they want the "credit for it" (ConfusedConfused very strange you need credit from your child Confused)

Southern US. Santa brings gifts for children; tag says "From Santa." These are opened on Christmas Day. Other gifts from parents, friends and family have tags with their name and can arrive before, during, or after Christmas Day.

He delivers all of them though, even the ones from family and friends. The stocking presents don't have tags on, those are the special ones from him. My parents used to say on the 20th December he goes to all the houses to collect all the presents from family and friends, takes them back to his grotto, sorts them ready to deliver to the correct houses on Christmas Eve. Like a jolly postman on a sleigh. He's a very clever chap. I used to love falling asleep on the 20th because when I woke up the next day, the big bag of presents in my parents room had always disappeared and it was exciting to think Father Christmas had been in my house collecting them. I loved it so much I've done the same story with my DC.

I dislike when people say they don't want Santa taking the credit. It's only magical for such a short time in a child's life. You'll get the credit when they grow up and realise anyway. I find it a bit childish.

Northern england

I knew from reception class that santa wasn't real so don't remember believing 'Santa' brought anything because it spread through school like wild fire but I think the premis was meant to be that Santa brought everything.

I think modern concousness is what changed though, lets face it it is a dick move to give a PS5, Switch, Ipad or any expensive item and say its 'from Santa'.

Gifts under the tree are from 'real' people (us, family, friends etc...)

Santa 'brings' most things like a delivery service still but WE either pay or send them to him, that started because when my oldest was young I often had to take him shopping with me and buy things while he was there.

As times gone on I now added in and do a 'Santa Sack' from Santa and it has 12 cheap 'classic' toys in (Slinky, Harmonica, Hula hoop etc...).

Stockings are in memory of St Nick and are just tradition rather than from anyone.

Its nothing to do with Santa taking credit... I don't want any 'credit' from my kids but you have got to be aware that giving your kids big, expensive, extravagant or 'must have' gifts 'from' Santa is a unfair.

Why did Santa bring your kid the 'lol doll super xmas bundle' that cost £150 and was sold out everywhere where as you daughters best who also really wanted it didn't get it 'from' Santa?

Its easy to explain that mam/dad couldn't buy it because it was sold out or too expensive but why didn't Santa 'magic' it if he can bring ANYTHING and EVERYTHING?

Big gifts should not be from Santa, it was never designed to be like that and its very much something that arrived from our generation parents trying to go above and beyond in a keeping up with the Jones competition without thinking of the effects on other people... its pure selfishness.
