What to get my lovely SIL?!

I am stuck! I don't know what to get for my SIL. She doesn't really have any hobbies that I know of.

She has expensive tastes. Which is not a problem, but it means that an upgrade of something she uses frequently is already taken care of. Eg she would already have Jo Malone or Neom candles/diffusers, she already has Hunter wellies, cashmere socks.

She and BIL have in the past got me and DH a voucher for a local spa and some of the toiletries, a high end food hamper.

Her house is immaculate and she has far better interior design taste than me so I wouldn't be happy to get her house stuff.

I don't know where she gets her hair done and I don't think I've ever seen her with her nails done so a beautician's voucher is out....

She has one DC aged 18 months. My DH has found something for BIL so it's just a present for her.

Please help!!

I think you are making a mistake re the house stuff. Can you take a look around and think about what style of thing she likes. eg, if you took a look at the sorts of bowls and platters I use when entertaining to serve food, you'd figure out pretty quickly that I like things that have some colour, often vaguely mediteranean and are "pretty". I do colour, but not bright colour, and like softer "prettier" lines.

Do the same analysis of SIL and you'd see that she likes things that are "stronger" in terms of both colour and pattern - eg even if she has a flower patterned bowl, it will be very intense/high impact visual while mine is more likely to be a subtle pattern around the outside.

Then go look at my sister and you'll see she likes plan stuff, but in different sizes and shapes.

Can you not do a similar analysis? eg types of pots she puts pot plants in or colours she uses in her living room. Does she have lots of indoor plants, in which case perhaps another one will work.

Also, there's no such thing as too many cashmere socks or cashmere scarves. Just saying.

Booze?

chesirecat99 · 03/12/2021 15:13

How about matching products for the scent she wears eg shower gel or body lotion? Or a set of mini candles from her favourite brand to try different fragrances? Or just buy something you know she already uses.

It might not be the most original to buy someone something that you know they already use but you can be sure that they will enjoy it.

How much are planning to spend on her present?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 03/12/2021 15:32

A meal out?

Maybe pay for them to do an expensive tasting menu with wine flight and a voucher for babysitting service?

SparklyGlasses · 03/12/2021 16:10

If she has an 18m old, a Rick Stein at home voucher might be nice, depending on the budget. They can choose a lovely 3 course meal that needs minimal cooking. I have one waiting to be used but my parents said it was lovely! They got me one for £100 and I can either choose one high end meal for 2 or 2 x cheaper meals. They also do afternoon tea boxes.

What is your budget OP?

BillyBarryBoo · 03/12/2021 16:38

Great ideas so far, thank you. Budget is around £50 but I can go higher

A selection of nice things from Fortnum and Mason?

MrsPleasant · 03/12/2021 18:46

One of those bath caddy things (nice one!) that holds your wine and a book.

FordsonMajor · 03/12/2021 19:04

Aesop resurrection aromatique hand wash and hand cream would always go down well for me.

Also for future reference- candles/diffusers always need replacing. St Eval Bay and Rosemary are hands down far better than Neom or Jo Malone. The ones I was going to link you to have sold out. I think (hope), DH might have bought all that was going Grin

Jumpingintochristmas · 03/12/2021 21:03

If she already likes Jo Malone candles get her another one. You genuinely can’t go wrong with that - I burn mine every weekend!

Pixiedust138 · 03/12/2021 21:20

Look up Fleur De Force on YouTube. She does Christmas gift guides for different budgets/types of people. You might find something in there that she would like!

Chatwin · 03/12/2021 21:42

If she has one of the Neom electric diffusers, a set of the oils would be lovely
