Disappointed with Christmas tree

For the past 3 years we have got real Christmas trees, we went somewhere different this year and I am so disappointed with how it looks.
It looked fine in the garden centre, but now it’s decorated I can’t see past its funny shape, especially with our tree from 2 years ago just showing on Snapchat memories and how perfectly shaped it was 😭
It’s very obvious which is which, I can’t wait for this one to come down!

@thegreylady I am open to suggestions!

Ohno, this years is much, much better.

I guess it is a different style to the very full tree, and if full is your preference I suppose I can see why you are unhappy.

But it looks much classier, and displays the decorations much better.

AliceA2021 · 02/12/2021 22:41

The first one looks the better tree to me, more classy. The second looks too fat and try hard.

twocandlelady · 02/12/2021 22:42

Sorry OP I actually laughed out loud when I saw it. Go and get another tree!

ImStayingInside · 02/12/2021 22:49

@twocandlelady but then what would I do with that one? It’s far too mean to the tree and my DD who helped me decorate it to just get rid.
It looks fine, I just didn’t realise how different it was to the one we had 2 years ago, I haven’t come across any pics from last year yet for some reason …
I will just be more careful with what type of tree I pick next year, I didn’t realise there were even different types, or that I apparently have a preference 🙈

I love your 'this year' one! Its fabulous! I hate pretentious trees, yours is just so fab that I want to hug it.

Is that weird?!!

Helpstopthepain · 02/12/2021 22:56

This is exactly why I love a real tree! They are always different, always have their own little quirks and smell delicious!
It’s a tree!

Helpstopthepain · 02/12/2021 22:57

I love your decorations btw. Dh and dc insist on a disco tree! Confused

User65412 · 02/12/2021 23:00

Have you trimmed it yet? Just needs a bit of cut around the top I would say? Looks lovely!

Hillary17 · 02/12/2021 23:05

I’m so sorry but I laughed out loud. Keep the crap tree, it’s a memory! I had one a few years ago that died 3 days before Christmas. Every single branch was a dry husk Grin

ImStayingInside · 02/12/2021 23:05

@Helpstopthepain thank you, we had a disco tree in our old house, but when we moved decided to go for a more consistent theme … I actually miss the random decorations. We had a rainbow star at the top!

@Hillary17 that could still happen to this one 😂🙈 have you gone for a real one again this year, or did that put you off?

I like it, it's a Christmas tree and it is fulfilling its lifes purpose.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/12/2021 23:09

That's one sassy tree. I love it. Reminds me one of those baking 'nailed it' memes you see.

Lalliella · 03/12/2021 00:09

If you think that’s bad, have you seen the one in Trafalgar Square???

Journeynotdestination · 03/12/2021 00:14

I’d love that tree.

BasiliskStare · 03/12/2021 00:32

Ah - @ImStayingInside - I think one of the joys of a real Christmas tree is they are all a but different & then you can say "Do you remember the one we got - whenever "

I love your current one - he looks like he has properly come out of the woods. Previous one yes a bit bushier but bit skinny up top - mayhap ?

Where we get ours from they will de net them so you can look then put them through the netting thing again.

But do not be disappointed with that tree - I think it is utterly charming

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 03/12/2021 02:55

I don't know which is meant to be the good tree and which is meant to be the bad tree. They both look lovely. It's difficult for a real tree with nice decorations to look bad.

I prefer whichever tree has that cute cat curled up underneath. He/she is a gorgeous little bugger.

SalsaLove · 03/12/2021 03:09

This year’s tree made me smile at first glance. It’s sweet and cheerful, and gets the cat’s vote!

GlomOfNit · 03/12/2021 09:31

it's fine OP. If you liked it before you saw last year's photo then what's changed? If you're going to buy a real tree each year, then part of that is accepting that each year's tree will be a bit different. That's always part of the fun - who wants their tree to look exactly the same every year? If you do, I assume you'd be better off with a good artificial one.

Last year we ended up with a Norway Spruce (the 'old fashioned' tree reputed to be a shedder but if you buy from a local grower who's just cut one, and keep it watered, I find them fine) with about three 'heads' - it had grown some alternative points to the top, but it looked great with none of that bareness you often get in the top foot or so.

Turning the tree to make the most of its best side always helps (though can be the cause of some contention here as we argue about which side is best). I think the more expensive Nordmann Fir or Blue Spruce types just do look more sparse than the trad Norway Spruce. People go for them because of the no-shed thing but I think you get better overall shape and density with a Norway Spruce. And if you don't put it up until a fortnight before Christmas, then you don't run into shedding issues. Wink

GlomOfNit · 03/12/2021 09:35

The only time I actually returned/changed a tree was a few years ago. We'd splurged on a Nordmann Fir from a fairly expensive local place that grows them. We only put it up a week before the 25th and it had been freshly sawn at the bottom, kept in water and then watered daily. It shed like a bugger and by the 20th there were actual bare patches along the branches. Sad It was, in a tiny way, quite heartbreaking to see a tree ready for the recycling before Christmas Day. I rang the tree place, sent them photos, they grudgingly agreed that this had been an issue that year (something to do with mild temperatures) and I undecorated it, took it back (to be shredded I assume!) and then redecorated the new one. It was the most unChristmassy thing I'd ever done and it felt really sad! I think yours looks wonderful and very festive. Believe me, taking the decs off and doing it again won't make you happy.

Thatsplentyjack · 03/12/2021 09:40

Well its a completely different type of tree. Have a look at different species of ftrees for next year so you can get one that you like.
I like it, but j do get what you mean about the shape, but that wouldn't bother me. We have a fake tree and I hate how symmetrical it is, but a real one would be really inconvenient.

headinthecloudsnow · 03/12/2021 09:50

It's definitely not as traditionally "tree shaped" as last years, and did give me a giggle Smile

But hey, give the poor tree a chance, I bet it was chuffed someone took it home and is giving it a chance to fulfil its Christmas destiny!

Yes, I'm weird.

Soontobegrandma · 03/12/2021 09:56

It’s beautiful. And is that a cat curled up underneath it. Very cute. Real trees are always a gamble. I love them because they’re not perfect. Don’t let last year’s tree spoilt your enjoyment of this tree. It’s a lovely tree and your decorations are gorgeous.

twilightermummy · 03/12/2021 10:02

I love it! It would make me smile every day!
