Great company, music and games (I love party games).

Oh, and cocktails. YOu can't beat cocktails for getting the party started

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:31

Cocktails?

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:31

Is there dancing at this party?

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:33

I've just been invited to a Bad Present party, after Christmas. I think you have to bring a bad present you've been given.

And yes, it's the same people who had the sexy witch party.

pinetreedog · 16/12/2007 18:33

nice food

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:37

And in fact at that sexy witch party they had Winter Pimms, and it was bloody delicious. It was served out of a pedestal with dry ice coming out behind.

These people make stage-sets not parties.

Winter Pimms, music - is there dancing? I can't go on unless I know whether there is dancing or not.

Masks.

Get everyone to wear a mask.

when we have parties or people round, I love doing Kir. Cava (or champagne!) fizz with a small bit of Creme de Cassis (blackcurrant type thing costing about £5 from drinks section of supermarket) in bottom of glass, topped up with fizz. It always looks nice, it is festive (lovely in summer too!) and always makes people feel a bit sohisticated which soon goes out the window after the 3rd or 4th glass.....!

Co-op are doing a brilliant offer on a particular Cava at the moment... normally £8.99 a bottle, they have it for £3.99 with 10% discount for 6 bottles or 20% discount for 12. It is nicer than champagne I think....

Also fab music helps....

pinetreedog · 16/12/2007 18:40

yes yes! kir is the bee's knees

chenin · 16/12/2007 18:42

yep... looks lovely in a glass flute.. pink going into bubbles...!

Ahhh... fancy one now!

chocolateshoes · 16/12/2007 18:42

went to a party where there was a game as a very good ice breaker. Beforehand all guests had to e-mail the host with a secret fact about themselves (mine was that I had built a shed last week, someone else had Lenny Henry in her bedroom once....you get the drift). She then drew up a list ' Find soneone who...' that each guest was given on arrival. It worked really well and made mingling easier

chocolateshoes · 16/12/2007 18:43

Also bacon sarnies at midnight is a winner

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:46

Oh god yes yes yes, do that chocolate email thing. How marvellous.

Then come on here and tell us ALL the things they said. I thinks that's inspired actually.

chocolateshoes · 16/12/2007 18:48

DP's was that he has a pee next to John Peel!

WeWhizzzYouAMerryXmas · 16/12/2007 18:49

Last year we bought a fab proper disco light & turned conservatory into a disco. This year we have added a mirror ball

chocolateshoes · 16/12/2007 18:49

Avoid doing tequila slammers with each guest as they arrive

ahundredtimes · 16/12/2007 18:49

And was he found by a party goer? There must have been some surreal small talk going on.
