Any one else rethinking their travel plans?

Booked to go to Poland via the Netherlands over Christmas, but the uncertainty is getting on my wick. I'm toying with just cancelling it and staying at home. Are you thinking of changing/cancelling your travel plans too or am I overreacting?

I’m not changing anything right now but keeping an eye. We’re due to get together as a family for the first time in four years. But I have fretful parents who over-catastrophise things, and while this annoys me as a behaviour, I similarly don’t want to cause them needless additional worry. So basically if they make noises about cancelling our get-together, we'll cancel.

Well, after tonight's update from the PM, I'm even more convinced that we'll be at home for Christmas. Although, we're in Scotland, so will have to wait for the FM to decide what our restrictions will be. Even more indecisive than I was this afternoon.

I was due to be in Spain the day following Boxing Day. I have rearranged to Easter this evening :(

Justmuddlingalong · 27/11/2021 22:20

Bummer, eh? I'm going to be cooking Christmas dinner at this rate. Avoiding that is one of the main reasons for spending it abroad tbh. 😉

No, but only because I hadn't planned on travelling away from home!!

If I had planned to go away, then yes, I'd be cancelling.

TheSimpleThings17 · 27/11/2021 22:42

Aghh yes, have a surprise trip for my DS to Lapland booked for 17th Dec for 2 nights, of all the holidays I’ve had to rebook in the last 18 months this was the one I felt sure we would actually be going on - not so sure now 🙁

Fbawtft · 27/11/2021 22:43

Yep. Was meant to be travelling next week. But now the government are saying we will need a pcr on day 2 after return and will need to isolate until results. I can’t have any more time off work (can’t work from home) and I’ve just had covid so if I take a pcr it’s likely to be positive and I’ll be put back into isolation.

Will be trying to rearrange it as soon as the travel company phone lines open in the morning!

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 23:10

I’d only be going if I could comfortably afford / cope with the extended isolation whilst waiting for PCR results on return.

Ohhh no! Fingers crossed! I would love to take DC on a similar trip (amazingly their father has offered to pay if I can find my own ticket), but am beginning to think that by the time it will be possible to go to Lapland at Christmas they will be too old to want to 😒
Evesgarden · 27/11/2021 23:14

I can't bare it. we are going to Dubai over xmas and I am bricking it that it will get cancelled.

I am hoping with all hope that they will put finances above histrionics and not fuck it up

FiveGs · 27/11/2021 23:15

I live in the ME and have a flight back to the UK to spend Christmas with my family booked for two weeks time... monitoring the situation closely. I really hope I can come back but then it's a question as to whether I'll be allowed to return too. So much uncertainty.

anewdispensation · 27/11/2021 23:20

I was meant to be going to Cape Town in 2 weeks with my family. I actually cried when I cancelled the Airbnb last night. COVID is crap!

friendlycat · 27/11/2021 23:24

I’m going to cancel our Christmas two week trip. Already deferred from last year. It’s just not worth it in my view.

VioletRose91 · 27/11/2021 23:37

Yes was supposed to be going away for my 30th in ten days! I don’t think we will be going anywhere and il probably end up spending it at home!

drspouse · 27/11/2021 23:56

We have family booked to come for a buffet lunch for a big birthday on the 23rd. I'm making sure I deliver or post their presents early just in case...

Tabbydancer · 28/11/2021 00:00

Our family have cancelled their three day trip to visit us as they don’t want to spend two of those three days in quarantine. We have t seen them for two years.
The money for pcrs is a pain too - an extra 300 - but wasn’t a dealbreaker.

I’m not even going to travel within UK to visit relatives. I got all that out of the way at half term as I felt this whatever number wave would be imminent.

Chakraleaf · 28/11/2021 07:49

Yes we booked Poland but decided not to go now

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/11/2021 07:53

Due to fly to Andorra via France three weeks tomorrow. Not optimistic.

hanahsaunt · 28/11/2021 08:44

We were due a long weekend in Germany in 12 days time but dh can't WFH so we are postponing 😢. Whilst a jolly at the Christmas markets would have been fun, it's not seeing ds1 who is at university there which is really disappointing.

JumperandJacket · 28/11/2021 09:01

Supposed to be taking my DD to the Christmas market in Lille in mid December. I’m waiting for more info before deciding anything- luckily it’s a flexible booking.

JumperandJacket · 28/11/2021 09:02

@hanahsaunt Could you go on your own?

JorisBonson · 28/11/2021 09:03

I'm in England, all my family in Scotland. Had booked to go up because DH is working all over Christmas. Looks like it might end up being a bit of a lonely one 😔

I am so sorry. I am in SA and we are just devastated, I know so many people who were due to travel abroad.

Our tourism industry has been dealt such a massive blow

I have booked to go away locally, and unless our President closes up provincial borders, I will still be going.

Many people are now frantically looking for local places to stay.
